I was looking over the field for Monday's British Final, largely made up of PL and d/u riders and harking back 50 years to the 1965 British Final, held at my long-lost West Ham. The field on that day included Nigel Boocock, Mike Broadbank, Barry Briggs, Ivan Mauger, Brian Brett, Charlie Monk, Trevor Hedge and Ken McKinlay, to name but a few. How times have changed.

Unpredictable weather for mid-March too. 16,000 shivering fans in Manchester on a cold wet March night...what fun!.

I don't have Sky but can watch Eurosport on my pc as my son has Sky and can include 3 remote devices alongside his tv. He has added his iphone, his tablet and my pc so I can watch for free. If Beowulf has a relative or friend witha Sky package they may be able to arrange something.

Am I the only forum member who followed John as a Scrambles rider?. He was very active on the East of England circuit early'mid 1960's.

He's still a class above Ruml though so it's a shame for USA if he has chosen not to ride. I for one hope he does.

I don't understand this either. Poland and Sweden operate small top-flight leagues on a set race day so why not us. If every Elite meeting was on a Thursday say we might get the top riders back.

I certainly feel the GP needs Emil and Grigorij, but whether they will be in the series for 2016 is open to question.

So Russia without Emil and Grigorij...I still believe a full strength Russia would win SWC but no chance now.

I never saw Chris but I was a big fan of John even before he took up speedway, watching him regularly on the Scrambles circuit. As a speedway rider he was excellent and certainly one of my favourite riders of that era.

We used the Speedway special Park and ride at Cardiff City FC last year, easy to get to and plenty of parking spaces. cost £10 per car last year.

My 1st. World Final was 1965 so I missed Ove's best years.

I wasn't doubting his ability to qualify, just stating his semi looks the toughest. However. it's probably just as well it's 7 not 5 as I think top 5 may be a hard ask. Still, he made top 3 from the Final last year so what do I know.

It's a sad fact but the R.I.P.'s are becoming more frequent. I only saw Arne ride in a couple of West Ham v Oxford meetings and if I remember correctly, he was the only Dane riding in Britain at that time. I may be wrong though. R.I.P. Arne Pander.

It only seems a short while since i was watching him win his 5th. World Title. Happy birthday to the one whom many feel is the greatest of them all.
