Wimbledon was a great venue...The Laurels, The Internationale, Test Matches and a nice environment in which to watch.

Ice Speedway Fixtures 2015 - 2016
customhouseregular replied to Hawk127's topic in International World of Speedway
My sister lives in Innsbruck so I have asked her to get me the programmes and any other memorabilia. She got me programme when the last World Championship Final event was held in Innsbruck, Wish I could go myself but no chance. -
I must admit I don't know who Fredka is.
-
I saw them all from 1964-1985. Just look at the winners from that era. We don't see speedway of that calibre in England too often nowadays.
-
I'll second that.

I remember this as if it was only yesterday and yes, it is still painful to remember.

Lakeside Move To Kent Kings Unlikely?

I for one am all in favour of the El and PL amalgamating and having an enlarged vibrant NL. -
Hmmm!

What has this got to do with Arena Essex?

Surely if the fastest riders start ahead of the others, I'm assuming you mean all 4 one behind each other, there will be little passing. -
Someone's done his research

Lakeside Move To Kent Kings Unlikely?
customhouseregular replied to a topic in National League Speedway
In the unlikely event Lakeside drop down to NL next year the EL will be down to an unviable level. Are there PL teams willing to move up or will we see an amalgamation?. Or is it all !pie in the sky"? -
Lakeside Move To Kent Kings Unlikely?

As someone who has followed speedway for 55 years, I still don't believe it when it does happen -
Roll on Kumla...i'll second that!

Romford staged speedway at the old Brooklands track c. 1970. I believe Braintree refers to the Essex Showground where speedway was planned but came to nowt. I'm sure Nottingham staged speedway in the city but certainly outside at Long Eaton. Kings Lynn have been staging speedway for c. 50 years.

Oh well, no joy there then...pity though. -

The old Brooklands stadium is gone but I believe the current Romford Greyhound stadium is a first class venue. -
Lakeside Move To Kent Kings Unlikely?

This may be an exceedingly stupid comment and if so I apologise. Many years ago Romford closed due to only one resident complaining about noise. Is there any mileage in exploring Romford again?. -
We can't know if Tai is well above Emil or vice versa as Tai is not riding SEC and Emil is not riding GP. I can't get to grips re the reason Emil is not riding GP, but as he is not part of the field he is being denied the chance to become World Champion. Of course, if he was offered a wildcard and declined to accept he is denying himself, but the GP series is still the worse for his absence.
-
Oh how the GP needs Emil. Whoever becomes World Champion this year deserves the title because he will have finished ahead of all the other GP riders. However, he can only beat the riders put in front of him. Emil is streets ahead of most of this year's GP field, as is Grigorij when on top form. I was very impressed with Lindbaeck last night too. Whatever the financial and political machinations, a GP field without the best riders is a devalued product. Barring injury I expect Emil to retain his European title. As a GP rider I fully expect him to become World Champion. I for one enjoy SEC more than GP and I suspect I am not alone. Hopefully the behind the scenes problems can be sorted and Emil gets a wildcard entry for next year's GP series. It will be all the better for it. I what other sport is the European Champion denied a chance to try for the World Championship?

i remember this story but it was good to read it again. By the way, my autographed copy of the 40th. Anniversary get together at High Beech went the same way as Grandad's autograph book. Mrs. CHR is still with us.

Future Of Scunthorpe Scorpions
customhouseregular replied to lucifer sam's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It may not be relevant but I would like to know. If gates are say 50% of the level of 50 years ago, that may suggest that giving people what they had then would entice them more than giving them what they are currently getting. e.g...One league of 21 teams, no d/ups. no stupid gimmicks...just 20 home and 20 away league meetings, a k.o.cup competition and great individual meetings. Just a thought.
