It's about optimisation. Obvioulsy to promote a meeting now thats going to take place in August is silly. But to start promoting today for a meeting that takes place tomorrow is silly. I guess the optimum is probably a week. We all know promoters are a bit slow at, erm, promoting though!

Yes, but we pay for all sorts of crap anyway. What town/city doesn't have the local council paying for pointless statues/works of art or vanity projects? I was happy to pay for the Millennium Stadium events and no doubt a lot of the event that happen down in the Bay - they're things that the people can be proud of and make the most of. Unlike new council offices!

A closer look at some photos and it does in fact look like they now have concrete slabs put down. Can't imagine that dos the pitch much good!

The pitch is not down ATM, at least it didn't look like it from the photos I saw from the One Direction concert there last weekend. What probably happens now is the speedway, concerts and any other non-pitch activities are held together while the pitch is out, then it'll be put back in for for a spell where only pitch requiring events will happen. For whatever reason, be it they live bikes, they find speedway exciting, speedway fans drink more beer or they just need any money they can get, I imagine the stadium (and by extension the city) loves the speedway. What you will find is most people in Cardiff love it when theres a big event on, whatever it is. It makes the city centre buzz. Having been to many events there and just been in the centre when events are taking place people it's always good fun. Very few people complain, regardless of the event. And I say that as someone who used to live within the shadows of the stadium (certainly close enough that after the GP I managed to walk home, get change, walk back into town as people will still queuing for the park and ride buses!)

You could look at it that way, or you could look at it that he got the final final directly which is more than I imagine any of us predicted he would do pre-meeting and once he got the final he did, in reality, finish in the position you would probably expect him to do - at this stage of his career Woffy, Cook and King are all superior riders. He did well to get there. Gutted he fell, gutted he didn't win it, gutted he didn't get the wild card but so proud of the fact he was joint top scoring in the meeting proper and has beat Woffy 2 times out of 3 in the British final at Wolves in the last 2 season. Every time he was interviewed he made me laugh too, until the one after crashing out of the final - where once again I was so proud of him. Had I been in that position, a mic thrust in my face 2 minutes after crashing out of the final I'd have told them to "go away" (ahem!), I thought he handled it well and actually showed great maturity.

No, the stadium is used for plenty of things that take the pitch up. One Direction had a concert their last week for a start.

You can't have a facility for a rider who has not races for you since (re-)declaration. No Meidzinski means a PL 6 pointer.
