Is it any different to riders travelling from Sweden to the UK and then to Poland etc etc? To put a positive spin on it, it's shows Richard is keen and ambitious and his EL outings on a smaller track can oly improve him as a rider. Upt o now he's ridden for Workington and Peterborough, two very big tracks. The other day I was thinking how disapointed I was that Richard has not come on as I expected after the first time I saw him but he has a bloody good PL average, so lets hope for Workington and even British Speedway sake he continues to improve.

Actually, Bomber was World number 5/6 (joint 5th but dropped to 6th because Greg had won a GP) in 2010 and finished on the podium 4 times in 11 GP's that season. So arguably, his best season was better than Mortons. Ah, the joy of numbers

No doubt some will moan but I like that. I also like that it's happening gradually.
-
Nobody has argued that. What was/is argued is that you cannot use averages to prove your point. I would argue that all the higher average will have skewed people thinking that the riders were better than they were. Unless you could put them on a track together at their peak you cannot compare eras, it's impossible. It's possible that if Chris Harris had been around in the 70s he'd have been a 10 point man and a mullti World champion - after all, all tracks had more dirt and passing was easier!

The saying there are none so blind as those who will not see springs to mind.

Are you kidding? Less channels, slow systems and poor customer service is my experience with Virgin Media. Sky on the other hand have more channels, a system that changes channel the instant I press the button and the customer service seems to be on a par with any other these days, so marginally better than Virgin Medias.

It's not, it costs £5.

How To Make Speedway More Appealing To Younger Fans?
SCB replied to speedwayadict's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Simple answer is that , as with the EL, riders kevars have to have black legs. you ride British League you ,must have black legs. That way clubs just need to have tops made up. And I mean properly made up, not the baggy crap some clubs use for guests. How can it be taken serious as a team sport when there is no team identity? The bikes should all match too IMO. Peterborough generally look good with all rider with matching bike covers. -
Ah, a bunch of geeks slagging off a bunch of geeks Not really for me, at £5 it probably would be. So in that respect I see where JL is coming from. Charging £20+ for a speedway card game is asking for trouble IMO. speedway is a niche market, card games are a niche market. A niche within a niche is doomed IMO, sadly.

So the riders just ride in jeans and t-shirt then do they? They have to have kevlars/leathers anyway so just make them matching! This is something I'm aiming for speedway-stats.co.uk (but with a name change!), people will be able to update the scores on the go and add comments to heats. So a sort of live updates by many people. The site already has facebook integration anyway. The idea though is you can be updating the result at the track and you can be told if others agree with you or not on the heat results. So you know if your programme is correct. Or you could just be lazy and watch it update as others fill their programme in! In effect live updates but it'll be cleaner, more mobile/tablet friendly and as it will hopefully be being updated by many people it'll hopefully eradicate the chance of errors. My only issue is how to do it without taking away from live updates that already does a good job, I don't want to steal their concept. -
How To Make Speedway More Appealing To Younger Fans?

Right? And? Do you say to the guy in a nightclub, "If your money, until the night club promoter takes it"? Or the person going to the cinema, "Its your money, until it goes into some hollywood celebs next wage"? Nothing in life is free, to some of us a small flutter, even if we lose is good fun and better than a night at the cinema or out getting pissed. -

yeah so that team dominates, scores 65 at home every week while the team bottom of the league struggles for 30 at home every week. Both will go bust because they're scoring too many points to afford them on their crowds or nobody is going to watch them lose. The points limit is one of the best things about speedways rules. -

and that's the problem. It's not a family sport. It's an extreme sport that is ideal for betting at. There's two angles that can be used right there. -
They just need to avoid "news" and focus on interviews and articles that won't date.

How To Make Speedway More Appealing To Younger Fans?

This should be happening every week for every meeting. Clubs should have official club groups with events set up for each meeting. They should then make a poster that the fans can share with all those who share the poster each week out into a draw 10-12 hours before the meeting for free entry. Kids use facebook, they'll share anything if there even the remotest chance of something for free (and most of the time it's crap "share this iPod photo.... for iPods that are not real!) and if you can get photos of speedway riders all over facebook the kids may just be interested. -
Latest Update From Oak Tree Arena

And soon with poor music, lack of smell and the price of the programme people will stop going to Somerset* as they did Newport. Then what? *change for track of your choice, they're all the same. -

The worst thing is you see a really great race, the crowd is exciting and then they play some easy listening music and you wait for 10 minutes while the riders prepare for the next heat. Doesn't matter how old you are, you get bored in them gaps but if you're young, 10 minutes feels like hours. -

How many of them get pissed up and run from the police on a bike though? -
Fair point if it could be made to work, make the second half the ELRC. It might actually be a decent idea.

Dissertation Questionnaire- The Results
SCB replied to speedy19902006's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I think you can keep both happy though. Just bring in presenters who are not in their 60s as is the case at 90% of tracks, find some guys in their 20s or 30s. Change the music so it's not "hits of the 70s (or 80s if we're lucky)" on a loop all season. And give up on the announcing eveyrones birthday and anniversary, it's cringe-worthy unless they're 5-10 in which case it's cool to hear your name on the PA. They're smaller, almost irrelevant things but I think they'd make a huge difference for a start. Also, before a meeting for 30 minutes, have an autograph session where every rider has to be available to sign autographs, this has to happen at every track. Get the kids hooked now at 5-10 and you could have a fan for 70 years. Also, give up on the "family sport". At £60-70 for a family of 4 to get in, park the car, buy a programme and eat it is NOT a family sport. Thats the bets part of £300 a month! No family can afford that, ok they an save £15 a week by not buying a burger but by the time you get home from work and get ready have you got time to make the kids tea? If you're travelling 25 miles you have to leave no later than 7 for a 7.30 start, if you dont get home until 5.30 it's pushing it. So give up on family sport and go with danger, dirty, adrenaline fueled mad men on bikes. Also look at the age demographic, it's not families, it's old people! -
The Basic Entertainment package is £21.50. The Entertainment Extra package is £26.50. Thats £5 a month for speedway rather than £42.50 for Sky Sports. And if you're already paying £42.50 for Sky Sports, you get Entertainment Extra (with British Eurosport) for an extra £5.

13, 14, 15, 16, 18. Whatever you do, the racing will be the same, you just see 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 heats each. And if I'm honest, I don't see the point of a second half. It's 4 pointless, meaningless heats. I only like individuals that mean something (GP, ELRC, PLRC) so taking away actual races that means something for some pointless races. I want to watch real teams and individuals that mean something, not made up teams and individuals that nobody will remember in a months time.
