  1. Well he’s accompanied by the promoter at virtually all meetings home and away so they must believe in him.
  2. Have a look here, Royal Wootton Bassett Community Facebook this post says it all.(about 30 posts down) and some good replies Speedway is a dreadful idea in this location. RWB is being dumped on by what Swindon doesn’t want. More traffic, more pollution, more flooding in the area and disruption for the wildlife and everything the canal and all the volunteers have worked for (not sure walkers, riders and local wildlife and nesting birds and swans will appreciate the awful noise of a speedway and revving bikes). It’s not just the speedway but the go karting as well which will be noisy and also cause a lot of traffic in an already dangerous roundabout and road system. These posts are so boring, it is the same few people whinging in support of it and just attacking anyone they can who says anything against it (who funnily enough are all speedway racers looking at their pictures) they want to ruin it for the rest of us in our lovely town and people who actually value the countryside and cutting down on traffic in our area. If they had spent as much time complaining about the stadium not being rebuilt where it was originally then maybe something would have been done sooner and they would have their old stadium back in their original site rather than letting a developer buy them off and put it elsewhere. Please go to the planning portal to say what a dreadful idea this is for the environment, for the traffic and for local business at this site and make Swindon council take responsibility force the developers to build it where is was previously and not palm it off on RWB.
  3. It gives me no pleasure to say this but even without all the injuries and the missing riders, Oxford should still have made the playoffs, but for very poor tactical decisions made by the management. Just as has happened in the past it won’t be long before fans start dropping off and the goodwill will all but evaporate.
  4. It’s refreshing to have a positive post like yours amidst the negative doom and gloom often heard from certain individuals. I’m sure there are members of this forum who are in touch with the Swindon Needs Speedway group, who are still primarily focussed on retaining the Abbey Stadium. They can convey your thoughts and advice when approaching the planning process for this new venue. As you say, people will say anything to put a spanner in the works, so I’m sure I remember University of Central England complaining about the noise from the speedway putting their students off studying (this was in November/December!)
  5. Sorry to read that Kevin Boothby is unwell and wish him all the best on his road to recovery. As regards the Oxford Stadium situation, after the massive effort from all concerned in making the reopening of Oxford, the success that it undoubtedly has been, it would be gutting for all involved if any of those various rumours had any foundation. Only time will tell, of course.
  6. Always enjoyed the banter with Porky when Swindon visited Monmore, and his commentary on the last lap. I also used to love the original Mr Wolf. Whatever happened to him ?
  7. I genuinely don’t understand your negativity towards the potential reopening of speedway facilities across the country. You often claim there’s no money, but speedway has been run on the support of fans who own businesses for many years. We all acknowledge the challenges in the sport, but our shared goal should be to do our best and maintain a positive outlook. Regardless of the outcome of this particular venture, it’s disheartening to think that if we all adopt your pessimistic attitude, what’s the point of anything? You frequently emphasise the importance of protecting our existing venues, but I wonder how often you and other former Wolves fans you’ve persuaded attended Birmingham to try and secure their future.
  8. Without his score at Berwick, we would have lost
  9. No that’s true, but the figure is 700 not 500 so not NDL numbers.
  10. I somehow don’t believe that if they are serious and the facility gets built they are aiming for NDL but who knows.
  11. I believe the 500 figure represents the average attendance across all teams in 2019. Speedway doesn’t officially release attendance data, so it’s just their estimation. According to their statement, they estimate around 700 spectators on average, with a peak of 1500 during the playoff finals. I think that figure is low, but then that’s how they justify the requirement of other events for stadium viability. I agree with you that fans of all clubs should support this application, however cynical they are of it, as it’s the only chance of Speedway returning to the Swindon area.
  12. There are plenty of fans and contributors to this forum that would like nothing more than for Swindon Speedway to return, myself included, but like you and many others that have been around this whole sorry saga from the start, know deep down that it is unlikely to ever happen, and as Swindon Council have always complied fully with Osborne, then have no doubt that the Abbey is sadly history once the formalities have been completed. One thing for sure the next few months are going to be very interesting following the the process.
  13. Here we are they’ve only gone and submitted them 😀 https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/25358479.first-look-plans-new-speedway-stadium-near-swindon/ Planning information for any one interested. https://development.wiltshire.gov.uk/pr/s/planning-application/a0iQ300000FdUf7IAF/pl202506229
  14. Alternatively, it could be described as highly fortuitous for Poole.😀
  15. He’s just presenting the facts,You’re the one who mentioned bribery..
  16. The start marshal should also be aware of the rules, as they’re bound by them. If they were asked to do something that clearly wasn’t safe, they should have refused.
  17. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1264655848372590 He turned round and saw Poole riders in front and sprinted to grab the tapes. Cheat
  18. Why bother when it works for them and their partisan officials?😀
  19. There are some valid points there, but whenever I went to Wolverhampton, the dogs used to finish around 6 pm. I don’t recall that being dusty at all. Regulars, however, may remember otherwise.
  20. Let’s be honest, most would agree that Heat 15 should have stopped. The start marshal should have been warned or fined for blatantly favouring the home side. He clearly stepped in after seeing the Poole riders in front, just like in previous incidents where he was happy for his side to benefit from race stoppages. The referees’ inaction was poor, especially considering they had a trainee with them. He should have been on it straight away as it was clearly dangerous.
  21. Have to agree with all the comments about Ben Barker; always gives everything on and off track a proper team man. I also remember seeing him being interviewed on local Tv in his usual enthusiastic manner this time as a water tanker driver, I think, during the pandemic.
