Ipswich v Belle Vue POSF Leg 2
Toady replied to blue witch's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Bad night…He scored 7+1 and that score included a fall while leading in one heat and then passing Masters in another. Definitely not backing off like Kurtz. Swindon were already in the playoffs, so he could have backed off with an important meeting coming up for him, but no, he just rode like he always did no conspiracy theories here, just facts. -

But as you know, he wouldn’t have. Always gives 100%, considering the amount of injuries he’s had, never afraid to get stuck in, and a real pleasure to watch. -
I agree it’s quite amusing reading those comments. One poster even submitted three on one day! The one referring to the travellers made me chuckle – you can bet your bottom dollar if they were to pitch up anywhere near their home, they would be up in arms. So being concerned for their wellbeing is laughable. To my knowledge, there have been no submissions from any residents on that permanent site, which is very close to the proposed development, but plenty from people who live over three miles away. By submitting your comments, using the SNS template as a basis, we ensure that the planners focus on the planning process rather than these incorrect but all valid local people’s concerns. That’s all we as a speedway community can do.

Regarding the quotes of “if this fails, Speedway is over, and it will never return,” they were an unusual statement to make on a local BBC news report by someone who was supposed to be advocating for the proposed development. However, given the negative tone and the fact that the individual was not particularly enthusiastic about the project, it is understandable why you perceive this as a token gesture. Of course, knowing Osbourne, it is a very fair observation. Nevertheless, the negative responses from the local residents of Wootton Bassett appear to be genuine when considering their misinformed comments about Speedway. Additionally, there are numerous applications for house building in their area, so it is likely that they are also concerned about the potential impact of the Speedway stadium. In conclusion, the speedway public at large should register their support using the link posted above. This initiative primarily aims to secure the Abbey Stadium and prevent any further permissions until the fate of the Studley facilities is determined.

Please can everyone interested in this review the information provided by @frigboand contribute a comment promptly, as there is a limited timeframe to address the prevailing misinformation campaign surrounding this application.

The planning application was submitted to Wiltshire County Council, not Swindon Borough Council. Therefore, the Polish report is inaccurate.

Well documented that Kevin boothby is unwell all sorts of rumours flying around in the greyhound game,Perhaps loans are for the Suffolk downs project who knows but someone on Oxford Facebook page a couple of weeks ago suggested riders hadn’t been paid(Tungate). -
Well he’s accompanied by the promoter at virtually all meetings home and away so they must believe in him.

Have a look here, Royal Wootton Bassett Community Facebook this post says it all.(about 30 posts down) and some good replies Speedway is a dreadful idea in this location. RWB is being dumped on by what Swindon doesn’t want. More traffic, more pollution, more flooding in the area and disruption for the wildlife and everything the canal and all the volunteers have worked for (not sure walkers, riders and local wildlife and nesting birds and swans will appreciate the awful noise of a speedway and revving bikes). It’s not just the speedway but the go karting as well which will be noisy and also cause a lot of traffic in an already dangerous roundabout and road system. These posts are so boring, it is the same few people whinging in support of it and just attacking anyone they can who says anything against it (who funnily enough are all speedway racers looking at their pictures) they want to ruin it for the rest of us in our lovely town and people who actually value the countryside and cutting down on traffic in our area. If they had spent as much time complaining about the stadium not being rebuilt where it was originally then maybe something would have been done sooner and they would have their old stadium back in their original site rather than letting a developer buy them off and put it elsewhere. Please go to the planning portal to say what a dreadful idea this is for the environment, for the traffic and for local business at this site and make Swindon council take responsibility force the developers to build it where is was previously and not palm it off on RWB.

It gives me no pleasure to say this but even without all the injuries and the missing riders, Oxford should still have made the playoffs, but for very poor tactical decisions made by the management. Just as has happened in the past it won’t be long before fans start dropping off and the goodwill will all but evaporate.

It’s refreshing to have a positive post like yours amidst the negative doom and gloom often heard from certain individuals. I’m sure there are members of this forum who are in touch with the Swindon Needs Speedway group, who are still primarily focussed on retaining the Abbey Stadium. They can convey your thoughts and advice when approaching the planning process for this new venue. As you say, people will say anything to put a spanner in the works, so I’m sure I remember University of Central England complaining about the noise from the speedway putting their students off studying (this was in November/December!)

Sorry to read that Kevin Boothby is unwell and wish him all the best on his road to recovery. As regards the Oxford Stadium situation, after the massive effort from all concerned in making the reopening of Oxford, the success that it undoubtedly has been, it would be gutting for all involved if any of those various rumours had any foundation. Only time will tell, of course.

Birmingham v Sheffield Mon 4th August PL2
Toady replied to Brummies_Ste's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Always enjoyed the banter with Porky when Swindon visited Monmore, and his commentary on the last lap. I also used to love the original Mr Wolf. Whatever happened to him ? -
I genuinely don’t understand your negativity towards the potential reopening of speedway facilities across the country. You often claim there’s no money, but speedway has been run on the support of fans who own businesses for many years. We all acknowledge the challenges in the sport, but our shared goal should be to do our best and maintain a positive outlook. Regardless of the outcome of this particular venture, it’s disheartening to think that if we all adopt your pessimistic attitude, what’s the point of anything? You frequently emphasise the importance of protecting our existing venues, but I wonder how often you and other former Wolves fans you’ve persuaded attended Birmingham to try and secure their future.

Ipswich Witches vs Oxford Spires Thursday 7th August

Ditto Chris bomber Harris -
Without his score at Berwick, we would have lost
-
No that’s true, but the figure is 700 not 500 so not NDL numbers.
-
I somehow don’t believe that if they are serious and the facility gets built they are aiming for NDL but who knows.
-
I believe the 500 figure represents the average attendance across all teams in 2019. Speedway doesn’t officially release attendance data, so it’s just their estimation. According to their statement, they estimate around 700 spectators on average, with a peak of 1500 during the playoff finals. I think that figure is low, but then that’s how they justify the requirement of other events for stadium viability. I agree with you that fans of all clubs should support this application, however cynical they are of it, as it’s the only chance of Speedway returning to the Swindon area.
-
There are plenty of fans and contributors to this forum that would like nothing more than for Swindon Speedway to return, myself included, but like you and many others that have been around this whole sorry saga from the start, know deep down that it is unlikely to ever happen, and as Swindon Council have always complied fully with Osborne, then have no doubt that the Abbey is sadly history once the formalities have been completed. One thing for sure the next few months are going to be very interesting following the the process.
