To be fair Mike I think even 50k first prize would get things moving to a high degree, maybe Harry is working on something to that effect.

He is getting on now though not going to be the same rider as he was a decade ago.

To be fair he is the ultimate big fish in a small pond in the championship, and he's played the game like a finally tuned fiddle, knows he's too old now to make it into the gp , rides for two of the best clubs in the UK so knows he will get paid on time. At championship level he can win most rides in his sleep and at top level he's still a 7 point man without too much bother. Also self employed so he has winter earnings covered and can fit work around speedway. If you're one of the 90% of riders who won't make it to the top level he is the blue print to follow for decent earnings without the cost of a gp team.

Spot on we have to accept we are no longer top of the pile and if we could be a feeder league for the poles that would be a far better outcome than we have currently, the poles recognize that the UK, Sweden and US need building back up so things don't become boring with them steam rolling everything. Wouldn't it be great if something was done with Steve Evans and say Hancock and Hamill to find the next generation of Herbie and Bullet, Moran Brothers, Cowboy Cook, Penhall, King etc the Americans brought so much to the UK scene in the 80's and 90's there must be 10-15 riders somewhere in a population of 300 million who if some effort was put into them could make the stars and stripes a force again. Same with Sweden lets find the next generation of T.Ricks, Henka's, Lindgrens etc get them over here whilst young and hungry and ideally send some of our best youngsters over to Swedish league to broaden their learning/track craft. I really hope all this isn't crushed as I'm feeling a very small bit of optimism for the first time in over a decade.

Spot on there's probably ten or so riders that have that attitude I would rather have a tryer in at who got 4-5 points a meeting than a fella who could get 13-15 one week and then blatantly show zero interest the next meeting. KK was another case when riding, unbeatable when in the mood and then looked like he had never been on a bike when he didn't fancy it.

This all sounds positive and the kind of path the sport in the UK desperately needs , I'm not taking the p-ss here but was there any mention of if Harry and co have actually achieved anything yet ?

I don't doubt it, just two massive issues that somehow require solving but personally just don't see any party having the balls to do any of it.

Joking aside Iain as an example of the avoid work culture of a lot of the UK population my mrs was ill for a week gets sick note from doctor face to face then needed another 2 weeks off and she's emailed a form to self cert without any gp checking she is really ill. Must be ten's of thousands doing this to the extreme I could bore you lot all day with the real reasons we have gone through loads of prime minsters in the last few years but one example of uk culture is there are a thousand a day signing onto pip at minimum 4k per annum tax free. So do the math you have 365,000 (per annum on current trend) x £4,000 (minimum payment for pip)= £1,460,000,000 inflation linked increases per annum, before you get onto the existing £220 bil paid out per annum in benefits and the £100 bil a year in debt interest payments (which alone is 10% of the entire £1,2 trillion uk tax take).

To be fair to Tomalin it looked pretty likely that panthers were doomed so he had nothing to buy isn't he trying to help the group getting the club running again ?

He does seem to be marmite but fair play to the lad he's a top ten world class rider who generally has been loyal to the UK where what he is earning here is buttons compared to Poland.

I mentioned on another thread it was a brilliant track when I went 85-93 crowds held up even when we were getting battered every week in the Martin Rogers era, when Barker and Simmonds took over with a powerhouse team over 3k turned up for the first meeting at home, I remember not so long ago Buster talking about Poole meeting on a bank hol Monday where the club had the best crowd since the mid 70's . The support is there at Lynn if done right but is it really worth risking investing a load of money into something with only six teams, 3-4 weeks between home meetings sometimes and when you do put a match on 20-30% of the riders are missing.

Someone was saying he had a big bang in the gp so did well to score anything last night.

Re Cook and Castagna it also shows the complete lack of alternative riders available these days so minimal pressure to perform if your on a guarantee as you know there's few people available any better to do your job.

Such a shame re the track when I used to go to Lynn 85-93 it served up brilliant racing but its seems its dire these days listening to current fans.

Usual problem though with a speedway team these days you would struggle to give it away if you wanted out.

There was indeed that's a fair point he was a different breed that fella major smashes all the time and yet like the terminator he just kept coming but I do think for 99% of the time you need to avoid the big dings I think Holder snr could have had 2-3 world titles but he had two really bad crashes plus Darcy Ward crash even now he's still a great rider but he lost that extra 5% the top 1-2% really top tier have.

Personally didn't think the side looked to bad on paper a genuine number 1 two out of three of the best british youngsters currently out there , yes Castanga weak but I think its down to the other three riders being inconsistent.

I can remember Jan'O guesting for Lynn a couple of times maybe 1-2 years before he was world champion missed the gate every time but still smashed the opposition, can't remember much about Phil Collins although he was riding the time I used to go 85-93 so that's high praise indeed if you rated him better than the tiny dane.
