Peterborough V Coventry Challenge 19th Match 12pm

as Chris Tarrant said "This is what they want", - but I think that just ended the conversation: not that there ever was one. -

I'd agree with that. More amazing in the supremo's case as he allegedly paid 200k up front without a great CV to suggest that that was the wisest investment You threw the bait, I just took a bite to see what happens? Nothing much so I'm with BCD, as are many Panthers fans You'll have to unlike that now (or I could say: edit - jc only likes the supremo post ) - nope, scared him off Guess I'll have to wait for the Rick Frost autobiography: boats, trains and the impossible job! -

We remember wealthy owners who did their best, put their money where their mouth is and put on a decent show despite the BSPA doing it's best to leave us without a club to support. Those wealthy owners' riders stopped many a promoter's panic I seem to recall. Your last line helps to explain up why speedway is where it is these days. -

Thinking again about that, it was probably runnings costs anyway as a contribution to the Colin Horton benefit fund. We wouldn't have swallowed that so the SRBF was a good cover. Thinking about a quid to sit though, the abolition of free standing at the back that's always been there created enough stink, imagine charging an exta quid and policing that in the 2200 seater stand - good luck with that idea -

That'd see off a few more regulars so that's some trick. The car parking was originally brought in to contribute to the clubs SRBF donation. Not sure when it actually got subsumed into running costs. Peterborough Speedway is, and always has been, the free stand. I never understand why people don't make use of that and choose to freeze outside. Anyway, don't give the showground ideas, they'd probably do both. -
No.

Good job that the internet wasn't in use as today, can you imagine the fallout from that Where you moving to anyway, anywhere nice?

e-bay auction would be much more fun. Personally I'd keep them, can't take up that much room. Two bits of quality history if ever there was such a thing.
-
Thought I'd have an extended kip to see if the quality of the replies to the posts improved but I can see that it's going to be another bloody long season in the northern championship!

It's the 9th

Have to dust off the Hokey Cokey cup this time next year - "We sincerely hope circumstances can improve for Coventry during the course of this year which will enable them to return to the track in the 2018 season." - although if I was a betting man I'd melt it down now.
-
At least they are not visiting the Showground. It's only the supremo & co.

"I will never forget that the 2006 Grand Final, arguably the greatest modern day meeting ever, watched live by over 6000 people and by thousands more at home, was followed by a Craven Shield fixture attended by less than 700 people. If that Grand Final won’t pull people in, then what will?!?!" - Mick Bratley 2010

Never fails: mention Witches and Tractors and up pop Abbott and Costello! Who's at no1, What's at no2, I Don't Know's at no3

Well before a wheel is turned, here's potentially another bit of the margin gone PETERBOROUGH have pushed back an East Anglian derby clash by almost 24 hours. The 'T Balfe Construction' Panthers' home showdown with Ipswich will now take place on Easter Monday (April 17) after initially being scheduled for the previous day. The SGB Championship meeting will now have a 3pm start time and is followed by two classes of the first round of the British Youth Championships. Promoter Ged Rathbone said: "We would have been without a couple of riders on the Sunday, so approached Ipswich to reschedule the meeting. "They were happy to agree to the new date and we look forward to what will almost certainly be an exciting Easter Monday." peterboroughpanthers.co/news A Bank Holiday tractor convoy on the A14

I think the days of speedway season tickets and calculators are well gone. When I bought one it was just for the convenience of being sorted before a wheel is turned, knowing that I'd probably miss some but would, in part, enable the club to trumpet the annual record season ticket sales; albeit that was 4 years ago in my case! I'm sure that the management collective are aware of the issues you describe but what is your solution. Dates are no doubt at a premium at this time of year and the EoES said jump so we did, against our better wishes I guess. If we don't leave the EoES (no chance) or they don't really seem to want us as much as they are alleged to proclaim then this is just a fact of life running there.
-
Problem is that I doubt that our planning has much to do with it. We go with what the EoES gives us and they'll not worry about events elsewhere of no interest to themselves. I don't think that there is a genuine gripe on the first one. Most people can record it and watch later. Also an early GP in the series isn't that significant in the final shake up. July is more unfortunate, but is some way off and might always be changed if possible and sensible. How many fans does it really affect though? If dates are scarce, then although he doesn't want to, I guess Rathbone just has to take any potential financial hit on that one. A fixture after a TV Brit GP on a nice Sunday might entice a few newbies.

Stick him on ignore Rodders, he'd pick a fight in a phone box.

Somewhat ironic: Does Peterborough want a speedway club? Falling Panthers gates suggest the answer may be no. There is a problem - there just aren’t enough people coming through the turnstiles and that is hitting finances hard. In a candid insight to the club’s current situation, Mick Horton admits he is subsidising Panthers on a weekly basis as attendances are falling 200 paying adults short of their break-even mark. It’s a plight he is working hard to address and one which can’t continue long-term as he calls for the backing of the Peterborough public (www.peterboroughtoday 2/4/14) one of many down our way.

I never understand this comeback. Someone doesn't want to watch what they feel is an inferior product but are reminded that those that they prefer to watch were once at that stage. So what? Just over 1 in 4 like strike rate
-
Reign perhaps but given the state of the sport I'd say supreme is pushing it.
-
That's a different argument though unless they're given a free horn and sit near me to grab a breather.
-
That wasn't the point though. It was the overall Sunday entertainment package rather than the racing in isolation. Peterborough delivers well enough on that for 15 minutes, but Sundays are for days out, and that's what the atmosphere feels like. Doesn't compare to evening under lights

Given the distress signals the promotion have put out in recent times then nor has anybody else.: "SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey has revealed that the meeting on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31st could be the final-ever Scunthorpe Scorpions’ fixture at the Eddie Wright Raceway, unless there is a telling increase in attendance levels at the North Lincolnshire venue for the rest of the 2015 season." I assume that was rectified in 2016 and the fans are flooding in now?
