More people watch speedway at the NSS during the season than at any other venue so to lay the blame of a sparse crowd at our feet is very unfair. This is the first time in ten years that the crowd has been disappointing and there are circumstances that have resulted in this. The travelling fans who don’t turn up anymore I remember coach’s from all clubs for the BLRC at Hyde Rd or a Coventry British Final but now pretty much nothing. It’s not just about travelling fans though as local fans from other clubs won’t support an individual meeting like this or the PCMT. If they did then other clubs would run such an event. Speedway just isn’t popular anymore and thats the cruel reality for us. People say advertise but we have done it all over the years - you name it we have done it. Even people who know about speedway don’t attend as they don’t like it enough and thus pick and choose. Anyway, what an awesome nights racing and a fabulous final. That should be the benchmark for ALL venues. Forget tinkering with the rules or mucking about with fancy suits and bike covers etc. Sort out the racing and I for one would be parting with my money at away tracks as I’ve done in the past and I’m not alone. Gate ’n’ go is a killer for an exciting sport like ours. Sort it out!

I’d stick by him and help nurture him back to the form we know is there. Even with his current form The Aces will make the play offs and they are 17 weeks or 40-50 meetings away for Tate. When Dan came back from his big smash he scored only 3 points in his first three away meetings before slowly picking up as the season progressed.

Here here! Ashton, Tate & Norick are the three youngest riders in the top league and all three have been called out recently. People need to give their head a wobble.

Ipswich ‘Witches’ vs King’s Lynn ‘Stars’ - Monday 5th May
ouch replied to StarBoy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
To be honest I didn’t expect Ipswich to do what they did with the track to enable them to win. I thought they were better than that, in every sense of the word. -
The fans yesterday went home extremely happy after the last race win, so yes more of the same please. What happens away is largely irrelevant as fans don’t travel anymore, including me. For The Aces as with most teams you win some you lose some away from home. If you can supplement your home wins with the odd win or bonus here and there then you’re in the play offs. It’s every teams goal to do enough to make the play offs. Your last sentence is on the money as unfortunately many fans now do just that.

Is this about qualifying for the play offs or winning every meeting? Today’s performance will see us qualify as we beat you once and you beat us once. 2 points each with a solitary point going your way as a bonus. Have you not seen how the play offs work? It’s survival of the fittest, which usually isn’t us so reserve your excitement for when an injury ravaged Aces team get defeated. Pop those champagne corks guys.

Not an option for The Aces then. Good spot.

Zack Cook - Birmingham 2024

2 points needed and expected today for our play off push. Financially, effectively done.

Today’s meeting was mostly tedious gate’n’go heats with a few interesting moments thrown in. Heat 14 was top draw and Jack certainly livened things up near the end. The Leicester NL meeting was better imo. The result was completely expected to those with a full understanding of The Aces “massive home advantage”.

Ipswich ‘Witches’ vs King’s Lynn ‘Stars’ - Monday 5th May

What happened to make it entertaining as we need to replicate that at other tracks in the top league due to the preference for gate’n’go heats? -
It would be a massive departure from the norm for The Aces to drop a rider, especially so early in the season. We don’t need to anyway as essentially we only need more league points than Kings Lynn to make the play offs and this current team should do that. Once there, anything can happen as we know only too well to our cost in 2021 & 2023.

Riders are no longer considered assets of clubs
ouch replied to bigdave's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Obviously as a Belle Vue fan I think it’s a bad thing. Just looking at the current lineup, why should we bother bringing on riders like Dan, Jaimon & Norick only to see them move on with no compensation. However my opinion changed when thinking of all the other riders we’ve brought on that weren’t assets like Brady, Max, Tom etc. We get the short to mid term benefit with these riders but then get to see them flourish and provide a better over all league. We can’t race ourselves after all. Our business model is one I wholeheartedly agree with and would like to see adopted more widely. To see riders sign on 3,4.5 and 7.5 averages become GP stars we can all enjoy in our domestic league is fantastic and something we should all aspire to. The current issue of lack of riders in our league hasn’t happened accidentally. Too many clubs just cherry pick riders without any active involvement on rider development and whilst this may pay dividends for the odd season the effect on the entire league can be seen to be negative. Once again the bigger picture is just lost on British speedway. -
Been impressed with his performances at the NSS over the last seven years with his most recent being exceptional. A fine prospect, let’s look forward to the next seven years.

Sheffield will look to capitalise on our vulnerabilities at the NSS again to replicate their win from last May. Those vulnerabilities were also exposed in the B fixture which ended in a last heat decider, I expect more of the same again tomorrow. Owlerton is our worst hunting ground when looking for wins, I’m just hoping our fine away form holds. Over our last 10 away meetings we’ve won 4 (curse that last heat at Leicester or the rain gods v the brummies that potentially saw us miss out on another 2) which is only matched by one other team. Dan Thompson was their RS last year.

Tate is still young, if fact only Ashton & Norick are younger and he’s in his first full UK season. It’s way too early to write him off as it is to say he’ll be another Aces World Champion. He’s a quick learner and once he gets a few more racing laps under his belt I’m hoping he’ll be fine. His gating isn’t great so the top flight gate’n’go league will hold him back away from the NSS but hopefully that will improve with age.

Good to see Rew top score again, every meeting bar one so far this season. Different rider and the one silver lining for Birmingham. -

I’m of the opinion that it wasn’t clear. https://ipswichwitches.co/raceday-guide-birmingham-h/ Did anyone know the qualification method before parting with their money to attend or watch the stream? If yes and there’s a link to this I’ll happily concede the point. You seem a decent poster, hand on heart how would you read the meaning of “featuring the top scorers from both teams.” I’ve watched this sport for over 50 years and until now I thought I knew what that meant. -

It’s also the way reporters list the riders scores and have done for decades, 8+1 trumps 7+2 everybody knows this. It’s just someone changing the system in a vain attempt to suit their argument. Bizarre. -

This is what I have to put up with. I get the trolls will trip themselves up whilst creating their imagined reality but I expect a level of consistency from the same poster. I don’t think you’re a troll and we can put this down as a mistake but please can I ask for a little less attitude and insults, we’re all (hopefully) speedway fans and can discuss things on here in a civilised manner. -

It’s not difficult to provide that information in the press release advertising the event. It just reads “top scores from both teams” so that’s what you expect. It’s all well and good you now informing us of the caveats (plural) for the event. I’m still yet to see this in writing from the club themselves so will stick with their last comment - top scores from both teams. They should have said riders from both teams will be represented instead of top scorers. Speedway once again over promise and under deliver. I’m in agreement with you about Dan and also agree that both Jason & Emil turned it down. You’ll probably need a tin hat with you airing opinions like that one here as the trolls will descend with their insults and obnoxious behaviour. -
