  1. That's a great signing. I thought BV were mad to let him go.
  2. I do think the tractor racing is more in evidence at Leicester than most other tracks. I've been to meetings with some young kids and a teenager and their comments, such as "not more tractor racing" are a salient reminder why new fans can easily be put off from becoming regulars. When I moved to Leicester (the old enemy) I realised that I am, first and foremost, a speedway fan. But I still wear my Bees shirt and coat!
  3. I heard that JD rides in this country because he gets home sick riding elsewhere. Seriously.
  4. You need to be more sociable. Let me know where you are and I'll buy you a beer. Then we can use all those "unnecessary" breaks to sort out all of the speedway world's problems.
  5. I was going to say that this is not a Leicester only initiative. As such, I'm a bit surprised that there isn't anything about it on the British Speedway website. I guessed that the same article, with appropriate changes to the email address etc., would be on every club website. On looking around the various sites (not all of them, I admit) this appeared to be the case. I did note, however, that the Oxford version does not include the social media position.
  6. 2nd half first sounds like a brilliant idea. But.... Lay out the rules for the second halfers clearly. Start on time. No stretching the 2 minute warnings. No gardening. Just a crisp flow. Get the main teams ready to go. In fact, maybe run out the main team riders on parade, in pairs, crisply between junior races. Of course this means they have to be ready and the crowd have to be clearly informed who it is they are seeing. And then the main meeting has to start right on the money and be run smoothly. Come back Charles Ochiltree
  7. Come back soon, Mildenhall. As a neutral, yours is one my most favourite venues to visit. Yours is a solid promotion that would be a great loss to our sport if you don't return to league racing.
  8. I tell you what. We'll have him. In a heartbeat. A one hundred percent terrier, who inspires those around him in the pits.
  9. I thought that, but they are dated 18 11 2023
  10. Well I found the same photo on the BSPL website (buried where you'd not normally gain access) along with another one today....
  11. Please don't take my comments as being negative. I've been to Oxford a few times this year and it's great to see the crowds and feel the atmosphere. I'm just concerned that the promotion may be jeopardizing their future by taking on 3 leagues.
  12. I don't think there's anyone who is not cheered, even delighted to see Oxford in the top flight. It's great news for a club rising from the ashes who clearly has a good and faithful following. But running in all three leagues looks ambitious to say the least.
  13. Steps back in amazement. Mind you. If they get all their fixtures completed, it might embarrass a few clubs who can't, despite only running one team.
  14. I think MikeBV might have been a touch sarcastic
  15. Their Chargers logo is still on NDL page as well. They can't be running in all 3 leagues, surely?
  16. Premiership? Seriously, it's good to see a track and promotion moving in the right direction. Especially with all the closures and problems some other tracks are having just now.
  17. We can argue about percentages till we're blue in the face. The fact is that two senior, well known riders, as well as Steve Boxall, have been found guilty and banned, this year. Regardless of the number of tests done, this is far too many. Other factors might suggest there are others that have escaped detection and that's an even bigger concern. I have joked in the past, when a rider seems to be doing unusually well, that he won't pass the drugs test. Respected riders being "found out" makes me realise it ain't funny. It undermines the whole sport and threatens to attract the wrong sort of publicity. Not to mention the risk to life.
  18. Spot on IainB. This was a scary accident and the reports from hospital were very concerning. Max is a real stylist and is making good progress in his career. He is one to watch for the future and the hope is that he recovers fully and can put this behind him.
  19. I believe that the hearing is taking place today
  20. I was there. The track was tricky, from the off. But not dangerous. Indeed, conditions improved after a couple of races and without the long delay I'm certain we'd have seen the full 15 heats completed. Max Perry's accident looked like one of those starting incidents. I believe there was bunching before the riders got to the first bend and Max straightened up, going straight on into the first bend air fence, at high speed. Unfortunately he had no chance to bale out. Was the track a contributory factor? That's hard to say with 100% certainty, but in my view, it certainly wasn't the primary cause. I don't think the referee, the team managers or any of the riders are responsible for what happened. It was very sad that the meeting ended and the season for that matter, with serious injuries to a quickly improving rider. Our very best wishes to Max and here's hoping for a full recovery as soon as possible.
