British Final 2024

I think there's plenty of folks on here (and lots of recent youtube clips) that would disagree with that analysis. But each to his own. Live and let live, eh? -
Have Sam and Tom signed for Ipswich then?

You're always interesting Norbold. That's why we buy your books. Unfortunately the nickname "Interesting" was taken years ago by a certain snooker player. How about "Sage"? Will that do for you? -
British Final 2024
False dawn replied to Hackett's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
You know, you raise an interesting thought. In my mind anyway. I love the BV track and enjoy my 3 or 4 visits a year there immensely. But who decided it was OUR "National" stadium. I guess I always assumed that it was a title dreamt up by the BV management when it was built, making it no more "National" than any other stadium. But they can call it what they like. I don't think we have a better venue/racing strip on which to hold the British Final. -

British Final 2024
False dawn replied to Hackett's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I'd be amazed if Bomber let anyone win, anywhere, any day of the week. And especially as it was very apparent that he felt cheated of a (final?) Cardiff appearance after the British Final rain off 2 years ago. And the fans clearly wanted to see him at Cardiff again, as he received the biggest cheer before the start when he was paraded as one the previous winners. -
I agree that Leon is proving to be a bit of a disappointment this year. I hope it's a temporary dip in form and that he will resume his upward development in due course. I don't like making comparisons but in this case I will. Dan Thompson has been making steady progress for several seasons. He has clearly found a happy home at Ipswich and has made the next step. It is obvious (to me anyway) that any youngster entering the Rising Star system is going to find himself in a very daunting environment. They are going to need constant help with set ups, riding technique and ongoing help to maintain their confidence. This ain't a case of putting a lad (or lass) in the number 7 position in a top flight team and assuming just because they are there, that they'll make progress. Without constant mentoring they are likely to go backwards (metaphorically speaking).

I bought the stream on BSN. It was a very long way to go to see it live. It's a shame because the empty stands on the stream were very obvious and a bit disappointing. My main reason for saying that is the effect it would have had on the competitors. Oh well. Despite the above, I thought this was an excellent meeting. Real commitment from the riders and a few surprises along the way. I have been to Glasgow a few times and I have to say that they have built an impressive set up and the racing is very entertaining. Well done. And a special mention to Sam Hagon. His transfer to Leicester is obviously paying off

Granted, for the most part. But the win at home, get the aggregate point away, is not looking like a solid plan already. We've lost 2 home leagues meetings. -

Given Stuart Dickson's recent record (this season and last) I think Luke Becker is in the frame for the chop. Not sure who would replace him or the effect on the averages etc. But when the team manger keeps saying something along lines of, "I can't get all 7 riders scoring together" I think there is only one thing coming. Personally I think it would be a shame. I rated Luke and applauded his signature pre season. I still believe he's a good long term prospect but two things are against him; (some) teams want results now and Stuart Dickson is not known for his patience. On the wider front, I do wonder if this "score now or get the chop" attitude is having a bad effect on the team spirit (or lack of it) in the Leicester pits -
According to the rider history: Stanley Frederick (Stan) BEAR Born: 3 March 1958 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Career record: (1982) Weymouth; (1983) Weymouth, Cradley Heath, Poole; (1984) Poole; (1985) Poole, Wolverhampton. International honours: Australian international (4 caps).

When I sent this news to my speedway mate by text, the one word answer came back..... "Why?"

If you mean, they've said that's what they'll do, you're right. But (I might suggest) take anything, any politician says in the next 5 weeks with a large pinch of salt.

Ipswich v Leicester KOC 30th May
False dawn replied to Badge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I think the person doing the fixtures for the BSPL website needs to have a lie down. We've already got the fact that Leicester could need to be in two places at once on Monday. That is, they are scheduled to be at Oxford in the league and Birmingham in the (slightly) unlikely event that Leicester win on aggregate tonight at Ipswich in the KO Cup. Add to that. The fixtures show that Ipswich are at Birmingham on Monday, TWICE. KO Cup semi (so Leicester are definitely not going to win tonight) and a league match. Both starting at 7.30 (will they have two heat 1's then two heat 2's and so on?). And finally. Next Thursday it's Leicester or Ipswich vs Birmingham (so Leicester still might win tonight). Confused? You won't be after this episode of Soap (who remembers that one?) -
Team riding? I must have missed that.

I completely agree with your analysis. I'm not even suggesting the rules are at fault. In fact, had I been there, seeing Emil 8 times would have seemed like very good value for money. He's a class act, as we all know. I was just saying that this quirk of the rules does feel a bit odd. I can't see it happening that often so we don't need to debate it further. I will say that it's a pity that Emil didn't get a 24 (25?) point maximum. Because that might have been a record that stood for a very long time. Actually, it will surely be a while before anyone gets more than 22 (23?). -

I know Ipswich were running RR, but for one rider to be in half of the 16 races seems wrong somehow. -

We were wondering why they couldn't at least play the Discovery+ sound over the PA during the breaks. At least you could hear any interviews and reports from the other meetings even if you couldn't see the pictures. And I agree with your comments about the British Final draw. A complete non event. It could have been improved (very slightly) by a graphic showing the rider names in the 1 to 16 as they were drawn. But the extended delay during a live meeting (which was further extended by chat with Phil Morris) was very poor. Especially for the fans in the crowd who just stood around not even knowing what was going on. The crowd was of good size last night. Larger than I've seen before for TV meetings. Please, please don't piss off the fans when this can be so easily fixed. Edit: there was an announcement during the British Final draw saying that it was taking place. But small consolation eh? -

More worrying was the interview with Max Fricke after the meeting. He said that the track was good and it was the way the team wanted it. He hoped it would be like that all year. -

Me and my mate almost didn't go last night because of the tediously long breaks. But we did attend and had the best of both worlds. We watched the speedway live and got Discovery+ on a phone and watched all the reports from the other meetings and the replays from the races we'd just seen live. This had an added bonus. The Discovery+ pictures aren't quite live. If something happens live e.g. someone falling, you can quickly refer to your phone and see what happened.
