  1. Will check out with him exactly what year this was, if your book says he is deceased :?
  2. Hiya Kiwi long time no see you ok?
  3. He rode for Canterbury around 1968 as thats when we started all those years ago, like I said my dad was his mechanic and I know dad went there from the start
  4. I spoke to Dad and Uncle Ted today both say he is alive and kicking, Uncle Ted saw him a little while ago @ Rye House. Dad also confirmed the above about Tyburn being the last apprentice hangman in Britain, Tyburn changed his name by deed pole in honour of this.
  5. I'm really not sure where to start this post as it is a bit personal to my family so here goes.......... John Stamper who worked at Kingsmead for many years firstly on the main gate and then Pits Marshall for many years until closure died on Monday. Johns' funeral is on Monday 15th September Barham Crematorium, Barham Nr Canterbury Kent 4pm If anyone would like to attend they would be most welcome, if you would like to post any messages under this please do so and I will pass on all messages to his family. We have lots of memories of John in our family, one in particular was the day his daughter Jeannette married Uncle Ted, in April 1987 unfortunately this was speedway season and not one of us wanted to miss a speedway meeting so several of the congregation inc. My Dad, Brother, Cousins, Myself and of course Father of the Bride John! all toddled off to Canterbury. Needless to say, we all had a wonderful day at the wedding and an even better evening at speedway, only to take most of the Canterbury team back with us to the reception afterwards. Sincere Sympathy to Sylvia, Ian & Val, Jeannette & Uncle Ted xx
  6. Dad was introduced to speedway by Mr Gallows and was his mechanic until Tyburn was injured, will have to ask dad whatever happend to him when he comes round for a cuppa this week sometime hopefully I can find somthing out for you Norbold x Strange that he never mentioned riding for Canterbury in his profile line up there though :?
  7. Kev we rely on you and Raven for all the information match wise from Canterbury!
  8. I must just add to this thread on congratulating people. Mark Loram what a fella, offered Scott his bike for the rest of the evening although not needed, was a very good gesture. They are England team m8s but this Championship is an individual meeting. To lend someone your equipment without thought for himself deserves a huge pat on the back. Well Done Mark.
  9. Raymond Humphries changed his name to Tyburn Gallows as he was the last apprentice hangman in Britain (my dad was his mechanic) wow what a claim to fame there
  10. Me too Lioness fingers crossed on this one. 1. Scott Nicholls 2. Ryan Sullivan 3. Leigh Adams So much for us to hey Lioness Not one in the top three lol All credit to Mr Grump though xx
  11. I was only sharing a chuckle that I had at the beginning of a very enjoyable GP not my fault if folks have selective reading
  12. As the commentator said at the beginning "Nikki P would put his own grandmother through the fence if it meant he could win"!! see it's not just us fans sitting at home watching that see him for what he really is
  13. Me too Lioness fingers crossed on this one. 1. Scott Nicholls 2. Ryan Sullivan 3. Leigh Adams
  14. When we were in Cardiff we were amazed how many locals (old & young) asked US what was going on in THEIR City, when we replied with "The British Speedway Grand Prix" they asked what it was :? From that makes you wonder how much advertising actually goes on for our beloved sport :!:
  15. Anyone seen the track yet? only joking have an excellent time at the GP discoll xx
  16. They're not dominant because they are not interested, surely if they were we would have seen something from them already, speedway has been around long enough for them to see if it's a sport in which they could/would participate, like you say they are the home of the above, road racing yes, speedway hmmmmm can't see it shame really we could do with more countries becoming involved.
  17. I understood it Lugz, even if LT/Honey didn't see this one
  18. erm........ it's a family forum, I was just thinking aloud! Lioness........ shhhhhhhhhhhhhh ;-) I've only said hello, it's my 7 year old with the mega crush, that bad she now sleeps with her signed photo of Scottie bless her xx

  21. Us Brits might not win a GP (2nd is good though......... Well Done Scott kisses round ya navel xxx ) but...............Cardiff certainly has lots more fans than the rest of them
  22. Nice one..........Oi Lugzalot get the kettle ready for 10pm tonight, you got a date with Scott Nicholls on Sky Sports xx
  23. Don't want to put a dampner on the Sky Sports Extra bit but.........they are still advertising Rugby on there at the moment
  24. Shooting Star you and your m8 know as much as what we do, there are plenty of threads running at the moment with updates from members that are on to SKY regarding the showing of the GP, I have looked right up til Monday and as yet there is nothing showing. Keep a look out on this thread:- http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forum/view...opic.php?t=3922 it's being discussed there at the moment so chances are if it's on any tv., station someone will say so there.
