  1. No we don't want none of that nonsense , I still shudder when I remember that time you got a heat 15 5-0 to win at Ashfield a few years back . So there will be none of that at the Peugeot Arena today
  2. That's the spirit Blobby , though I think it has all the makings of being a cracker
  3. Back from my wee break down south , looking forward to this . Charlie Monk stand is bound to be mobbed again , had to move to the fourth bend two weeks ago , but will be a cracking atmosphere on a sunny day and may the best team win as long as it's the Tigers
  4. After Somerset had pulled back the six point deficit and went into a two point lead after heat 12 , i thought that was that , but the Ipswich 5-1 in heat 13 was a huge surprise and should have swung the match back the Witches way , especially with Covatti out in heat 14 . But King and Tungate were comprehensively outgated in heat 15 and though Tungate gave it his all , couldn't really land a blow . I was disappointed in King though , apart from heat 13 , he was very ordinary , took nearly three laps to get past Josh Bates in heat 11
  5. As a neutral i thoroughly enjoyed the meeting , even though the track was very dusty . Thought Ipswich missed a big opportunity though , had King scored as expected they certainly would have won . The fast starting Covatti was excellent , apart from the one race that he didn't gate , and Tungate was superb too . Didn't look much wrong with the track to me as there was some great racing when Grajczonek , Wright and Tungate were on the track . Somerset's top five had a strange night , mixing brilliance with mediocrity , every one of them having at least one dodgy outing . Still Josh and Brady Kurtz got it together when it really mattered . The reserve situation will have to be addressed if they are to be serious title challengers again this season though . A cracking night though in the company of Mr and Mrs Dietbowers , and nice to meet up again with Womble , Statman , Najjer , Pirate Nick and a surprised Halifaxtiger haha , cheers for the lift back to Burnham mate . Back to the humdrum of a Scottish derby for me now
  6. It's the Comets in town at the Peugeot Arena this Sunday , and they always give us problems . No matter what septet they roll up with , Ashfield always seems to suit them . And a fine looking side they have assembled again this year . Rusty returns , he thrilled us time and time again last year and he's always a popular rider at our place . He's ably assisted by our recent guest at the dump , Kenneth Hansen , and Ashfield experts Ricky Wells and Rene Bach . Kyle Howarth and Nicki Barrett have had decent meetings here in the past too , so we'll need to be on our toes to come out with three points . Sundays teams - Glasgow Tigers 1 Richard Lawson 2 Dimitri Berge 3 Aaron Summers 4 Kozza Smith 5 Nick Morris 6 Victor Palovaara 7 James Sarjeant Workington Comets 1 Kenneth Hansen 2 Ricky Wells 3 Rene Bach 4 Rusty Harrison 5 Kyle Howarth 6 Nicki Barrett 7 Nathen Greaves or guest Sadly i'll miss this one as I'm away on holiday , but I hope it's cracker and everyone goes away regally entertained regardless who comes out on top .
  7. So that's the real reason for the lack of overtaking at Berwick , the riders getting impeded by the trees In fact , come to think of it . he never pulled any trees up anywhere much last season , barely managed a daffodil
  8. Very true . Despite us visiting fans going home very happy on Saturday night , the cold , hard facts were that every single race was basically done and dusted after the 2nd bend . Watching follow my leader speedway is not going to drag the punters through the turnstiles on a Saturday night .
  9. Okay maybe every race was basically over by bend 2 , but that was a brilliant comeback . After heat 7, and with Dick Barrie delighting in the fact the rider in red had won every race , I thought we were in for a pumping . But thankfully we started to gate and along with a wee bit of good fortune , we clinched a great win .
  10. Decent enough meeting in the sunshine yesterday . Credit Berwick for running us close , but it's early yet and I'm not too concerned . Berge and Smith have still to get going properly yet , once that happens we'll be fine .
  11. No , they can walk on water apparently , but they cant stop it falling from the sky . I'm sure that will be addressed in time as they seem to be listening to the fan's opinions
  12. Disappointing we're hampered by the doubling up rule on Friday , but that's modern day speedway and we'll just have to make the best of it . I'm sure the guests wont let us down , but it takes a lot away from the meeting being without Lawson , Morris and Sarjeant . Still i'll toddle along anyway and see what happens
  13. Hope the weather behaves , looking forward to reacquainting myself with the Black and Gold club
  14. You wont get the pram round to the back straight Sarah . The walkway at the 3rd bend is too narrow for that
  15. It's the state of the sport I'm afraid . Good Friday was always going to spell trouble with the doubling up rule . Swindon has first choice on Morris , Coventry has on Sarjeant . Our hands are tied on that one . And although we have preference with Lawson , maybe that doesn't apply when it's a league match or a challenge match , like Friday
  16. I see Craig Cook's little rant made this morning's Daily Record . While I can see his point of view , the track was rain affected and they are the ones putting their bodies on the line in what was basically a meaningless challenge match , verbally abusing an opposing team's sponsor to get that point of view across isn't big and it isn't clever
  17. Despite the weather , which we have yet to conquer successfully , it was a joy being at Ashfield yesterday . The place is unrecognisable from what it used to be like and the Charlie Monk stand is amazing . Yes the track was heavy and rain affected , but one or two riders stood out . Masters seems to have started the season impressively and he looks as if he is going to be a big hitter for the Monarchs this year . Max Clegg certainly wasn't afraid of the track and had a real go , but the young German needs a few rough edges smoothed off . God knows how he is going to get round Armadale on Friday . For us , Morris and Lawson look the part and are going to be big scorers round Ashfield . Victor and young James showed enough to suggest they will be a useful reserve pairing . Ok it rained and the track was difficult , but we've all now enjoyed our new facilities and the Monarchs have nit picked and moaned - speedway's back
  18. There will be an " image rights " lurking about somewhere to prevent it happening . Speedway really needs to rid itself of all the nepotism and join the 21st century
  19. Okay I don't know the exact line ups , but I can hazard a guess cause I'm itching for the season to start . Been an exciting winter with Sheikh's Gerry and Michael pumping a fortune into our great club , and now it's nearly time for the grand opening at our shiny new Peugeot Ashfield Stadium . As per usual our first foots are our friends from the Hillman Imp arena in Smugville and we do battle for the most hideous looking trophy in speedway - the big spring sticking out of a lump of wood . But dodgy trophy or not , there's no such thing as a meaningless fixture against the Smugs and we'll be going all out to put down a marker for the season . We've lost , from 2014 , Tero Aarnio , Rusty Harrison , Kasper Lykke and Theo Pijper with our thanks . And Kevin Wolbert with a good riddance . But we retain future superstar , Dimitri Berge and Victor Palovaara . In come Son of God , finally taking up his birthright , Kozza Smith , Aaron Summers , returning hero Nick Morris and young English prospect James Sarjeant . The Smugs retain Cook and his funny fuel , Sam Masters and Justin Sedgmen . But bring in at reserve Robert Branflake and Cleggy from Last of the Summer Wine . They also have a couple of Germans , one of which we are well acquainted with unfortunately . So all we need now is the weather gods to watch the Scotland game and leave us alone and let battle commence . Sunday's line ups might be Glasgow 1 Son of God 2 Dimitri Berge 3 Kozza Smith 4 Aaron Summers 5 Nick Morris 6 James Sarjeant 7 Victor Palovaara Smugs 1 Craig Cook 2 Justin Sedgmen 3 Erik Riss 4 Failed Tiger 5 Sam Masters 6 Cleggy 7 Robert Branflake Presumably the ref will be The Grand Monarch and I fancy us to take at least a 12 point lead to the Hillman Imp Arena a week on Friday .
  20. Patience , wait till we know the way the sides are lining up in their 1-7's
  21. Nobody is saying we'll sweep all before us , that would be silly . But we're just excited to have a competitive looking side this season after 3 seasons of struggling . It has and the excitement about all that has happened over the winter will hopefully manifest itself in a big crowd . Not when I'm doing the texting
  22. Big turnout of Bandits fans at Ricky's big day yesterday , they were in fine voice and it created a great atmosphere . See you all can get on together :-)
  23. Who cares about the " failed Tiger " anyway ? More important concerns are at hand . It's only 6 days till we resume hostilities with our smug neighbours , how do you think we'll line up ? Personally I'd go with - 1 Son of God 2 Dimitri 3 Kozza 4 Aaron 5 Nick 6 James 7 Victor
  24. Thoroughly enjoyed myself , riders gave their all , cant ask for more than that . Track looked excellent and the meeting was run brilliantly . Well done to all concerned . Was great to see such a huge turnout and the mix of fans from everywhere was good to see . Simon Stead even splashed out £250 to buy his racejacket at the auction , top bloke
