  1. It happened a day after the Scunthorpe v Edinburgh meeting. Thank goodness it did. With Palm Toft as captain yesterday rather than Josh, do you think we'd have seen any racing? All the best Rob
  2. The track was still hard underneath, once the surface water was cleared. And the times were, in general, quicker than heats 12 to 15 of Scunny v Edinburgh the week before. All the best Rob
  3. I did wonder how many threads we needed for the same meeting. All the best Rob
  4. Yes, Phil Griffin deserves the plaudits for last night. He wouldn’t be bullied. Scorpions’ captain Josh Auty deserves credit as well for his part in making sure we saw some racing. Brilliant work by the track staff, management and even one or two fans in helping clear the water. It became clear that the community spirit is alive and strong in Scunthorpe Speedway. Good riddance to 2017 (only two meetings to go)… and roll on 2018! All the best Rob
  5. No, we ended up with no fixture that day, after Peterborough turned down the fixture. All the best Rob
  6. No it wasn't. How about the blank Sunday that Scunny wanted to fill, and Peterborough turned down? All the best Rob
  7. The solution is simple: Workington should sack him. The junior guest replacements for him won't score much, but at least they're putting in some effort. All the best Rob
  8. Reading v Oxford, when Oxford used an illegal supplementary reserve in Heat 1. Left the stadium thinking Oxford had won 46-44 (and also wondering if the rules regarding supplementary reserves had changed for a second time that season); the following day, the SCB considered the matter and changed the score to 45-45. I didn't blame Mr Sugar for his objection - rather our team manager for being incompetent. The same should happen with Thursday's meeting - in fact, it should have been amended on Friday. All the best Rob
  9. It's also the team manager's job. Rosco either knew what he was doing (which makes him a cheat) or didn't (which makes him incompetent). Take your pick. All the best Rob
  10. Not only that, but right hand bottom corner confirms that Jack Smith was medically signed out of meeting. Nothing about Musielak... Quite clearly the rules have been broken here, and the referee allowed it to happen. All the best Rob
  11. Not really the same. That was to do with the hierarchical order of the team, and was agreed (wrongly) before the meeting. Nothing was agreed before the meeting last night, as to what replacement was allowed for an excluded rider in Heat 12! BWD was ineligible for that race. That's the "statement of fact" in this case. All the best Rob
  12. Poor analogy. This wasn't a refereeing decision on who was excluded from a race. It was a rider taking an ineligible ride. If a football club fields an ineligible player, then they have points deducted (Oxford United fell foul of this a few years ago). All the best Rob
  13. Grachan, cheers mate. Seriously though, if a rider has taken an illegal ride, surely it has to be pointed out. All the best Rob
  14. It certainly should be. I made sure the BV management were aware of the infringement before the meeting was over, during the ridiculous lenghty 'grading break' between Heat 13 and 14. That's, of course, if he hadn't already been spotted down the pits. As already pointed out, it's a matter of fact that BWD was not allowed to replace Musielak. All the best Rob
  15. How can a rider who has been officially signed out of the meeting be excluded under the two minute allowance? He must have still been in the meeting, and therefore the reserve replacement in Heat 12 was illegal. All the best Rob
  16. I was there on the night and well aware that the rules had been broken. During the ludicrous 'grading break' between Heat 13 and Heat 14, took a little wander in the direction of the pits and made sure that the BV management knew of the infringement. All the best Rob
  17. SCORPIONS SEARCH FOR CONFIDENCE-BOOSTING WIN HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions will complete their home league meetings, when they host Workington Comets in SGB Championship action at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (5.30pm). It’s not quite the final action for Scunthorpe on their home circuit, since there’s also the visit of Peterborough Panthers in Knockout Cup action on a week on Friday (September 22), plus the chance of further progress in that competition, if Scorpions can overturn a 18-point-deficit from the first leg. Scorpions are due to be at full strength on Sunday, while a drawcard is the presence of British Champion and national skipper Craig Cook, who is almost certain of a place in the Speedway Grand Prix series in 2018. Cook was missing when Comets visited on August Bank Holiday Monday. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We ran up a big score against the Comets when they visited us for the A fixture only three weeks ago on August Bank Holiday Monday - that 61-30 win was our biggest win of the season. “Meanwhile, the 50-43 away win at Workington at the beginning of last month was probably our best performance of the year and so we really do need to be looking at beating the Comets for the third time this season on Sunday. “Last weekend, we were exposed yet again by an Edinburgh team who simply got their heads down and got on with it when the rain came halfway through the meeting. Somehow, we managed to turn an eight-point lead into an eight-point defeat within the space of just six races. “On Sunday, our riders need to step up and give us a bit of fight and passion against a Workington side that we know we can beat. “If we can do that, hopefully it will give us a bit of belief and a bit of confidence that we can have a right good go against Peterborough in the Knockout Cup and try to pull back that 18-point deficit to reach the semi-finals.” Godfrey is urging fans to make the most of the chance to see action at the Eddie Wright Raceway before the season ends. “We’ve only got one guaranteed home match after this one”, he stated. “Only too soon it will be the winter, and then it will be a long time before supporters can get their speedway fix again. “I’m sure there will be some great racing on Sunday. Craig Cook was missing for Comets last time around, and he’s always good value around our track, plus our old friend Thomas Jorgensen will be in action. “Jake Allen had a brilliant home debut for us last Sunday, and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares against the top Comets.” Admission prices for Sunday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Sunday: Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Lewis Kerr, 2. Jake Allen, 3. Michael Palm Toft, 4. Ryan Douglas, 5. Josh Auty (captain), 6. Tero Aarnio, 7. Josh Bailey. Workington Comets: 1. Craig Cook, 2. Mason Campton, 3. Ty Proctor, 4. Matt Williamson, 5. Thomas Jorgensen, 6. James Sarjeant, 7. Paul Bowen.
  18. Paulco, I admire your restraint in calling Schlein 'Rory' instead of 'The Poo Boy' so far on this thread. Unfortunately, the weather looks dreadful for Glasgow for the whole day. All the best Rob
  19. That result was not mathematically certain. Glasgow 5-0 in Heat 10 makes it Redcar 24 Glasgow 37. Five 5-1s to Redcar then make it Redcar 49 Glasgow 42. That rule may have been quoted, but it certainly wasn't applied correctly. All the best Rob
  20. Remember that one well - I think I was stood next to you. Yesterday, he did well, although he got 6+3 by beating Josh Bailey three times and MPT on a malfunctioning bike. All the best Rob
  21. Well done to Edinburgh on a well-deserved win. But yet another meeting thrown away by Scunny. The only bright spot was a brilliant performance by Jake Allen. How well did he do, and he's not even 100% fit yet! You couldn't fault Josh Auty for effort. Elsewhere, it was the same old story. Too many engine problems; too many indifferent rides when the heat was on. All the best Rob
  22. ALL SYSTEMS GO AT EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY SCUNTHORPE PROMOTER Rob Godfrey has assured supporters that it is still ‘All Systems Go’ for today’s meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway between Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions and Edinburgh Monarchs (Sunday, 5.30pm). Sheffield have postponed their double-header, but both the amount of rain already received, plus the forecast for today, is different for Scunthorpe. Godfrey explains: “I pay for this additional forecast, which tends to be more accurate, and I believe we will fine for today’s meeting. “There is a chance of rain, but we’ve prepared the track accordingly. We’ve packed it hard. And it’s only a chance. I’ve looked at my extra forecast and I just can’t see where the rain is on that one. “I’m fully confident that we’ll see a meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway today. “I realise there are a lot of Sheffield fans who were after a speedway fix today, who now may wish to make the trip up the M18 to see some action at our track.”
  23. Sheffield fans after a speedway fix today might be interested in this: ALL SYSTEMS GO AT EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY SCUNTHORPE PROMOTER Rob Godfrey has assured supporters that it is still ‘All Systems Go’ for today’s meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway between Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions and Edinburgh Monarchs (Sunday, 5.30pm). 24. I would imagine Bewley will be back by Wednesday, won't he? What's he done - a groin strain? All the best Rob
  25. CRACKER SET FOR EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions will be looking to avenge their biggest home defeat of the season when Edinburgh Monarchs visit the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Sunday, 5.30pm), in the penultimate SGB Championship home meeting of the season for Scorpions. Top Australian prospect Jake Allen is finally set to make his home debut for the club. The 22-year-old suffered a wrist injury shortly after signing for Scorpions, following a couple of impressive away performances. Meanwhile, Josh Auty is set to return from a shoulder injury. Auty revealed on his twitter account: “Nothing broken thankfully! Just need to rest as my shoulder is still swollen. I'll be back racing Sunday.” The tough-as-teak Yorkshireman sustained the injury at Wolverhampton on Monday. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “It’ll be a tough match, I’m sure of that, because Edinburgh won here by sixteen points in April. “But we’ll be doing everything we can to avoid a repeat of that result and end up with the spoils this time around. “Edinburgh have got far more to lose than we have, since they are currently battling Redcar for the final spot of the play-offs. “I’m very interested to how see Jake Allen goes in his home debut for us. “All-in-all, there’s plenty to suggest that this will be a fascinating meeting, with some fabulous racing.” There are 21 heats of action in total on Sunday, including a six-heat second half Northern Junior League match between Halifax Dukes and Redcar Cubs. Admission prices for Sunday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Sunday: Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Ricky Wells, 4. Mark Riss, 5. Erik Riss, 6. Max Clegg, 7. Mitchell Davey. Northern Junior League teams: Halifax Dukes: 1. Dan Gilkes, 2. TBC, 3. Jordan Palin, 4. Sam McGurk. Redcar Cubs: 1. Gavin Parr, 2. David Pye, 3. Alex Goldsborough, 4. Kyran Lydan.
