  1. Well done to Edinburgh on a well-deserved win. But yet another meeting thrown away by Scunny. The only bright spot was a brilliant performance by Jake Allen. How well did he do, and he's not even 100% fit yet! You couldn't fault Josh Auty for effort. Elsewhere, it was the same old story. Too many engine problems; too many indifferent rides when the heat was on. All the best Rob
  2. ALL SYSTEMS GO AT EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY SCUNTHORPE PROMOTER Rob Godfrey has assured supporters that it is still ‘All Systems Go’ for today’s meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway between Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions and Edinburgh Monarchs (Sunday, 5.30pm). Sheffield have postponed their double-header, but both the amount of rain already received, plus the forecast for today, is different for Scunthorpe. Godfrey explains: “I pay for this additional forecast, which tends to be more accurate, and I believe we will fine for today’s meeting. “There is a chance of rain, but we’ve prepared the track accordingly. We’ve packed it hard. And it’s only a chance. I’ve looked at my extra forecast and I just can’t see where the rain is on that one. “I’m fully confident that we’ll see a meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway today. “I realise there are a lot of Sheffield fans who were after a speedway fix today, who now may wish to make the trip up the M18 to see some action at our track.”

  4. I would imagine Bewley will be back by Wednesday, won't he? What's he done - a groin strain? All the best Rob
  5. CRACKER SET FOR EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions will be looking to avenge their biggest home defeat of the season when Edinburgh Monarchs visit the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Sunday, 5.30pm), in the penultimate SGB Championship home meeting of the season for Scorpions. Top Australian prospect Jake Allen is finally set to make his home debut for the club. The 22-year-old suffered a wrist injury shortly after signing for Scorpions, following a couple of impressive away performances. Meanwhile, Josh Auty is set to return from a shoulder injury. Auty revealed on his twitter account: “Nothing broken thankfully! Just need to rest as my shoulder is still swollen. I'll be back racing Sunday.” The tough-as-teak Yorkshireman sustained the injury at Wolverhampton on Monday. Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “It’ll be a tough match, I’m sure of that, because Edinburgh won here by sixteen points in April. “But we’ll be doing everything we can to avoid a repeat of that result and end up with the spoils this time around. “Edinburgh have got far more to lose than we have, since they are currently battling Redcar for the final spot of the play-offs. “I’m very interested to how see Jake Allen goes in his home debut for us. “All-in-all, there’s plenty to suggest that this will be a fascinating meeting, with some fabulous racing.” There are 21 heats of action in total on Sunday, including a six-heat second half Northern Junior League match between Halifax Dukes and Redcar Cubs. Admission prices for Sunday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Sunday: Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Lewis Kerr, 2. Jake Allen, 3. Michael Palm Toft (captain), 4. Ryan Douglas, 5. Josh Auty, 6. Tero Aarnio, 7. Josh Bailey. Edinburgh Monarchs: 1. Guest for Sam Masters, 2. Josh Pickering, 3. Ricky Wells, 4. Mark Riss, 5. Erik Riss, 6. Max Clegg, 7. Mitchell Davey. Northern Junior League teams: Halifax Dukes: 1. Dan Gilkes, 2. TBC, 3. Jordan Palin, 4. Sam McGurk. Redcar Cubs: 1. Gavin Parr, 2. David Pye, 3. Alex Goldsborough, 4. Kyran Lydan.
  6. In which case, they need to start advertising that as the start-time. Instead of looking like a team who start late every single week. To clarity, the advertised start-time of a meeting should be when the racing starts. Not when the parade starts. All the best Rob
  7. That's not on time. On the BSPA website it says: 07/09/17 1930 Ipswich v Berwick (SGBC) That means the racing should start at 7.30pm. All the best Rob
  8. Is Dan Bewley back for Glasgow today? All the best Rob
  9. Really shocked about this - I interviewed Lee less than a month ago. RIP Lee. All the best Rob
  10. Who were the original Tigers, and who were the copycats (excuse the pun)? All the best Rob
  11. Spinny, It's all explained in the third paragraph if you follow the link. Guests are allowed if the rider is doubling-up elsewhere. All the best Rob
  12. He's set to ride at Workington tonight, is he not? I haven't heard anything to the contrary. All the best Rob
  13. BANK HOLIDAY TREAT AT EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are aiming to move up the SGB Championship table in a big twenty-four hours for the club. Scorpions travel to Newcastle on Sunday evening (6.30pm), before entertaining both Newcastle Diamonds and Workington Comets in a 30-race double-header at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon (3.00pm). Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We’ve made no secret that we’d like to move up the SGB Championship league table a couple of places before the end of the season. “It’s going to be a tough ask, because Newcastle and Workington have matches in hand on us, rather than the other way around. “But our next three meetings are against these two clubs, and if the results go in our favour, it gives us a chance of catching them. “A double victory - worth six points - at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Monday is a must, while a win at Newcastle is not out of the question, because we were only lost by two points up there earlier in the season. “We used to be on a hiding to nothing when we went up to Newcastle, but we now have a number of riders who can score good points at Brough Park. Lewis Kerr, Michael Palm Toft and Tero Aarnio were all in double figures on that previous visit in May.” Godfrey stresses that he needs a decent crowd for the double-header at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Monday. He says: “We’ve done everything we can to make the double-header as attractive to supporters as possible. “It’s only £5 more for full-price adults, for double the action. In fact, there are significant savings across the board, compared to the price of two stand-alone SGB Championship meetings. “It’s an expensive meeting to put on. The admission prices are great value and we need the fans to respond, by coming through the turnstiles. “It’s going to be a fascinating afternoon’s action, with Newcastle and Workington the two clubs directly above us in the SGB Championship table. “There’s some highly attractive visiting riders on display, such as Robert Lambert, who has recently won both the European Under-21 and European Under-19 championships. That’s fantastic for British Speedway and I congratulate him on that double. “On Bank Holiday Monday, we see him in battle against our own Scorpions. Josh Auty was on top form against Peterborough last week, with 17 points, and Josh’s races against Robert Lambert should be worth the admission fee alone. “We’d also think the meeting will be highly attractive to any neutral fans, who want to see a real feast of 30 heats of speedway action for a reasonable cost”, Godfrey concludes. Admission prices for Bank Holiday Monday: All Adults (Adults / Student / OAP): £20.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) No family tickets Match Programme: £1.00 The savings: Full paying adult. Usual price for two single headers = £30. Monday’s price = £20. SAVING of £10. Student / OAP. Usual price for two single headers = £26. Monday’s price = £20. SAVING of £6. Child (aged 10-17). Usual price for two single headers = £10. Monday’s price = £5. SAVING of £5. Expected teams for Bank Holiday Monday: Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Michael Palm Toft (captain), 2. Rider replacement for Jake Allen, 3. Lewis Kerr, 4. Ryan Douglas, 5. Josh Auty, 6. Tero Aarnio, 7. Josh Bailey. Newcastle Diamonds: 1. Robert Lambert, 2. Ashley Morris, 3. Kevin Doolan (guest), 4. Ludvig Lindgren, 5. Aaron Summers (guest), 6. Ben Hopwood, 7. Alfie Bowtell. Workington Comets: 1. Aaron Summers (guest), 2. Mason Campton, 3. Ty Proctor, 4. Matt Williamson, 5. Thomas Jorgensen, 6. James Sarjeant, 7. Tom Woolley (guest). * SCORPIONS will hold their annual collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund on Bank Holiday Monday, between the two meetings. It’s a massively worthy cause, with £98,000 paid to 30 riders during 2016 – beneficiaries are both current riders with injuries, plus those who have been left wheelchair bound due to a speedway accident.
  14. Just getting the Press Release ready (we'll never leave it until 15 minutes before the start to let you know who's riding!). I'm guessing you're most interested in Newcastle - the guests are Doolan (for Robbo) and Aaron Summers (for Stevie W). On EWR form, it's pretty much like-for-like. Summers also guests for Workington (for Cookie). All the best Rob
  15. We were chatting to one of the Sheffield fans, and agreeing that the decision to exclude Georgie was ridiculous. It was clearly triggered by a slight contact from Lewis Kerr and Lasse Bjerre entering the first turn, leading to a heavier contact between Bjerre and Tero, which led to Tero losing control. Georgie was the completely innocent party in it. It should have all 4 back. If you had to exclude someone, it was one of Kerr or Bjerre - it started with them. As we are discussing it with him, Tero got booed by a few Sheffield fans (just a few - certainly not all) as he walked off the track. He was correctly directing his ire at the referee. But a few were booing Tero. I was just glad he was back on his feet. All the best Rob
  16. Traffic nightmare getting to Owlerton yesterday. It was busy all the way up and then there was a bad accident four junctions from Sheffield (actually the other way, but two lanes were also closed in my direction) which meant a detour around the outskirts of Mansfield. Eventually got there for Heat 8, for Josh Auty's barnstorming TR. I was told the first seven races were pretty processional in any case. Then took well over 3 hours to get home, due to two night closures on the M1 (it should take 2 hours coming home at night). I won't bother going to Sheffield on a Thursday night after work again. The Thursday night traffic is almost as bad as the hell day for travelling that is Friday. All the best Rob
  17. Is the lesser-spotted-Holder riding tonight? All the best Rob
  18. HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions have revealed the prices for the double-header against Newcastle and Workington at the Eddie Wright Raceway on August Bank Holiday Monday (3pm). And the good news is that there are BIG SAVINGS for all, compared to the price of two single-header SGB Championship meetings. The Admission prices for the double-header are: All Adults (Adults / Student / OAP): £20.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) No family tickets Match Programme: £1.00 Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve tried to set the admission prices so that they are really good value and there are big savings for all adults, compared to the price of two single-headers. “For example, if you normally pay the concessionary rate of £13, you’ll pay £20, so across two meetings, that’s a saving of £6. And we’ve kept the prices for kids at £5, despite the fact it’s double the action. “It’s a very expensive meeting for us to put on and we need to cover the cost. I’ve tried to be fair to everyone, and I hope everyone can appreciate that. “It’s going to be a fascinating afternoon’s action, since Newcastle and Workington are the two clubs directly above us in the SGB Championship table and, if results go our way, a double victory could take us above both of them. “We also think the meeting will be highly attractive to any neutral fans, who want to see a real feast of 30 heats of speedway action around a top racetrack for a reasonable cost.” The savings: Full paying adult. * SCORPIONS will also hold their annual collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund on Bank Holiday Monday, between the two meetings. It’s a massively worthy cause, with money paid over each year both to currently injured riders and those who are wheelchair bound due to a speedway accident.
  19. SCORPIONS LOOKING TO ‘CLICK’ HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions have a big weekend of SGB Championship action ahead of them, with a visit to bottom club Berwick on Saturday (7pm), followed by a home meeting against Peterborough Panthers at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (5.30pm). Scunthorpe have already won once at Berwick this season, and are looking to make it four victories in four matches against the Bandits. Meanwhile, Peterborough make third appearance at the Eddie Wright Raceway in 2017. The Panthers won 46-44 in April, before the Knockout Cup clash between the two sides was washed out in early June, with Scorpions leading 19-11 at the time of the abandonment. Scorpions are set to use rider replacement in both meetings for the injured Jake Allen. Skipper Michael Palm Toft says: “We’re capable of winning both meetings, both at Berwick, and at home to Peterborough. “It’s just a case of us all clicking at the same time. When we do that, there’s no reason why we can’t win against anyone.” On Sunday, Chris Harris will be on World Longtrack duty and Peterborough bring in Scunthorpe asset Thomas Jorgensen as a guest. Jack Holder is also unavailable, with his replacement yet to be determined. Promoter Rob Godfrey says: “I’m looking forward to seeing Thomas Jorgensen back at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday, even if it’s as a guest for the away team. He’ll always be welcome here. “I’m sure he’ll be involved in some great battles against our riders.” There are 21 heats of action in total on Sunday, including a six-heat second half challenge match between Scunthorpe Stags and Wolverhampton X Factor. Admission prices for Sunday: Adult: £15.00 Student/OAP: £13.00 Child (10 – 17): £5.00 Child (0 – 9) Free (accompanied by paying adult) Family Ticket £35 (2 adults, 2 Children 10-17) Match Programme: £1.00 Expected teams for Sunday: Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Michael Palm Toft (captain), 2. Rider replacement for Jake Allen, 3. Lewis Kerr, 4. Ryan Douglas, 5. Josh Auty, 6. Tero Aarnio, 7. Josh Bailey. Peterborough Panthers: 1. Thomas Jorgensen (guest), 2. Guest for Jack Holder (TBC), 3. Paul Starke, 4. Bradley Wilson-Dean, 5. Ulrich Ostergaard, 6. Simon Lambert, 7. Tom Bacon. Junior challenge teams: Scunthorpe Stags: 1. Luke Whitehead, 2. Sam Chapman, 3. Chris Bambury, 4. Sheldon Davies. Wolverhampton X Factor: 1. Sam Wright, 2. Connor Fletcher, 3. James Chattin, 4. Stephen Whitehouse.
  20. Premiership - Monday and Wednesday Championship - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday That would work. Although in the long-term, they need to phase out and eliminate doubling-up. All the best Rob
