  1. A perfect example of forecasts being totally unreliable until the actual day. If every club is going to start postponing meetings every time there is a ropey forecast 24 hours or more the meeting then it would cause chaos to the sport here. @Bagpuss makes the point about the expense of flying riders in from abroad if a meeting gets postponed but if that is a concern to promotions then the simple answer is don’t sign any! Sign a team of British based riders.
  2. Come off it Kelvin you’re making excuses to defend your club and your promotion. It isn’t currently the “right call” at all, and people need to stop using that after rain hits as a way of justifying such an early call off. If it pi$$es down all day tomorrow it still won’t justify calling it off more than 24 hours beforehand on a ropey forecast. As has already been said, what is the harm in waiting until tomorrow morning when the forecast will be much more accurate? At the moment, forecast is for rain to end around 2 o clock leaving 5 and a half hours for the track to dry and be worked on. Are the track staff not capable of doing that? Again as has already been said, if rain is forecast pack the track down hard to limit the damage giving you plenty of time to get it in to shape before 7.30.
  3. This in a nutshell. It seems as if all the stars have to align perfectly for a meeting to go ahead. Perfect weather, every single rider available etc. all just looks a very tired set up to me.
  4. I wouldn’t bother. He’s hanging on to his “we beat Ipswich on aggregate” for dear life. He’s mentioned it numerous times on various threads. It’s as if he knows Belle Vue aren’t looking as strong this year and he’s feeling a bit insecure about their chances. I mean, they did lose at Birmingham!
  5. We’re 7 weeks in to the season, seven, Sheffield have just lost their first meeting at home to an excellent side, and already the panic has set in and riders and now fans are calling for changes?? They’re still sitting 3rd in the table with two meetings in hand over the two teams above them, and are almost certainly going to be in the play off lottery at the end of the season. Why the rush? We’re in mid May! I just don’t get it.
  6. If Howarth was poor last year as well then why sign him again this year? Their fault! No rules broken but it’s not in the spirit of things is it? It makes a mockery of it IMO. When you end up with a totally different side in September to which you started with in March. Not sure you can get much satisfaction by picking up a trophy with a “pick n mix” side all wearing race jackets over their own Kevlars because you’ve strategically swapped riders in and out to get an advantage. Some are just desperate to win and don’t care how they go about it, fair enough that’s up to them. I personally like to have an affiliation with the riders and team over the course of a season rather than have a team cobbled together late in the season in a desperate attempt to pinch the trophy you never looked like winning. It makes team building during the 6 month off season pretty pointless. Each to their own.
  7. Oh here we go! The Hokey Cokey at Owlerton starting early this year? What are we, 7 weeks in to the season? And you’re already calling for riders to be sacked! How about giving them a couple of months at least to iron out any issues? Jenkins at Ipswich could hardly buy a point in either league first few weeks of the season, but is slowly starting to get his act together. Give riders just a bit of time before calling for their heads ffs
  8. You’re right, can’t argue. I understand why they’ve been brought in and it’s a necessary evil unfortunately.
  9. A reason I don’t like the play offs either. Be the best team all year only to get done by the “Hokey Cokey” Tigers or someone else who makes a Robert Lambert sized tactical move just before the cut off! I’ve always said, that every team has had all winter to get their team building right. If it turns out you’ve made a pigs ear of it a month in, tough. You should only be able to make a signing to replace an injured rider, IMO.
  10. Think Doyle was suffering a bit of a hangover (not literally I don’t think!) tonight after the euphoria of the GP at the weekend. As he says it’s been a whirlwind few days. Difficult to then get yourself back up for a league fixture a couple of days later. No doubt he was trying as he always does! But it can be difficult and I half thought he might not be at his best tonight.
  11. Not the actual Ipswich 1-7 you haven’t. Doyle rarely drops a point at Foxhall but Nicholls only scored 7 and they still beat you by 12. At the NSS Doyle again was missing and his replacement Wright scored 3 so it’s a bit misleading. You also lost at Birmingham (Ipswich won’t) and you failed to do what Ipswich have just done here last week at Sheffield. Ipswich are a stronger side than Belle Vue as the table shows.
  12. So would the Ipswich top two in fairness. They’re far better than 8 a piece. As for the reserves, Rew and Jenkins are simply better riders than the Sheffield pairing tonight so it’s harsh to expect them to step up this evening. Howarth on the other hand was the big disappointment. Has to do much better.
  13. Interesting interview with Emil conceding that he’s still having issues and they’re struggling for answers. It’s gonna happen sooner rather than later. Ipswich clear at the top when he hasn’t got going so when he does get his machinery sorted, they’ll be nigh on unbeatable.
  14. Just as expected. Ipswich look very very strong.
  15. You’re not wrong. It’s absolutely dreadful.
  16. Looks soft and spongy. When the tapes went up it looked like Doyle had it in reverse! It’s abysmal
  17. Ipswich should be looking to keep this closer than previous years due to having stronger reserves. Rew has shown signs he’s finally adapting to British racing this year. He’s a rider that holds his own in Poland, has cleaned up at U21 level in Australia winning all the titles, and has had a reputation as a big talent for a couple of years now. He SHOULD be getting the better of both Sheffield reserves even on their own track. Even Jenkins posted better digits than both Sheffield reserves in both leagues last year. This is the area Ipswich have to target to be competitive here.
  18. szkocjasid is spot on there’s a world of difference here. The forecast today for Birmingham is for light rain from 3pm, turning to heavy rain from 6pm lasting through the entire night. An early call off in these circumstances is accepted. We ALL can read a weather forecast. The difference is Chapman called off a meeting citing a poor forecast, when every one of us could see there was no rain forecast at all. It was blatantly another lie, another excuse to call off a meeting due to other reasons, probably another missing rider. He then realises he can’t use the same excuse again, neither can he use a “broken pit gate” excuse again when a couple of his team are away on Danish duty, so his latest call off is to just be honest for once and admit he’s calling it off because his Pole is missing! The Sooner this cretin is out of the sport the better.
  19. https://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/22475/kings-lynn-premiership-06-2024 Reading the comments on the updates site from heat 6 onwards, as well as the heat times compared to the first 6 heats, I’d say that’s completely accurate. Anyone saying conditions were fine and there was nothing wrong with the track, are either trolling or need an urgent visit to specsavers. Riders were giving up on track, some weren’t even attempting to slide their machines and were free wheeling around the bends.
  20. Thompson is going to be hot property this coming winter. I know a lot on here say riders ride where they want to ride and the asset system is worthless and while that’s true to a certain degree, from my experience riders generally won’t rock the boat when their parent club tell them they’re in their team. A few will and dig their heels in if they want to ride elsewhere, but the majority don’t. Thompson will almost certainly be ineligible for the rising star scheme next year due to his average, and Leicester will already have their eyes on including him as their number 6 on a 25% reduced bargain average. Louis would do well to enquire the cost of buying his contract from Leicester to avoid the risk of losing him. Rider contracts being swapped for actual money is very rare these days but if you have a wealthy backer, then sometimes it’s worth doing. This is one of those cases. Whoever lands Thompson on a 25% reduced average that should see him back in a reserve berth, will immediately have an advantage over everyone else.
  21. I don’t believe anyone does actually Steve. As Chris Louis said last night, it’s been a wonderful time recently for Suffolk sport. The football team have just been promoted to the top tier, and the Speedway club currently sit top of the table. Then all of a sudden you’re getting barbs being fired from Norfolk way that look nothing more than petty pathetic jealousy considering the problems that are currently going on at their club. “glenantony” has posted a very long winded gripe about Chris Louis and Ipswich speedway for having the temerity to start their meeting yesterday ON TIME, and yet I notice he hasn’t made any kind of thoughts on his club postponing yet another fixture because a rider is missing. Strange that isn’t it? Seems also to be a few new accounts all posting very similar things on this thread. Again, strange..
  22. It’s completely irrelevant what YOU would prefer. You’re talking utter b0llocks here and you’re just coming across as a bitter fan of a local rival with an axe to grind. I’ve seen nobody get “defensive’ on here, just people stating facts that the meeting started bang ON TIME, which it did. You’re whinging for whinging’s sake. Honestly it’s a bit rich coming from a fan of a club that calls off bloody meetings due to non existent “poor” forecast! I’d concentrate on your own clubs massive failings if I were you. Enjoy the meeting on Thursday. Oh that’s off as well is it?
  23. Then it’s a good job Ipswich don’t race in Colchester isn’t it.
  24. Ellis and Nicholls around Foxhall against Palm Toft and Basso in the middle pairings has 5-1’s written all over it.
  25. Doesn’t have any such issues in Poland though Badge. Still consistently beating the world’s best. Why does he have engine “issues” this year but was on rocketships last year? Sorry but I’m dubious of a rider of his calibre going in to May not having sorted out mechanical issues.
