I think you will find they had quite a lot of income from their first meeting as I do not think they did not get in for nothing

Alarmingly Low Crowds
mickthemuppet replied to remembertheracers's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Then crowds are way down at football grounds today compared to the 1940's where you would get 30,000 for a division 3 or 4 match. Colchester united averaged 9,300 in the Southern League in 1948, look at their gates today which are under half that -
But then Italy never took to Speedway so why would they in Argentina

Considering what a dangerous sport Speedway is there is a quite a lot of riders who live to a good old age compared to other sports. Has anybody for instance players in footballs world cups that are still alive

Belle Vue Grand Opening Refund?
mickthemuppet replied to a4poster's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Interesting to see in the abandoned cricket match between Worcester and Kent there was not a ball bowled. The outfield was damp although the weather was dry. Travelling Kent supporters are angered by Worcesters refusal to give any ticket refunds. The county said it is a clearly stated policy not to give refunds !! Who'ed be a cricket supporter although they are probably lower than Speedway for county matches. -
Ipswich Vs Peterborough Thurs April 14th Plc
mickthemuppet replied to Pob's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Comparing Ipswich and Scunthorpe at the moment how much can the Witches income be lower at this moment in time.compared to last year. No bumper Good Friday meeting and a Saturday meeting lost. At least Scunthorpe have had the income of three home matches compared to Ipswich have had one home income yet have to pay their riders for three meetings. Very tough times at the momebt. -
The referee got it right . Patrick Dudek was in trouble and pulled to the outside and raised his hand to say he was i trouble. At the time he was in second place and pulled to the outside. Then Peter kilderman ploughed into the back of him. so PK should be excluded. As PD was still under power he should not be excluded. Good decision by the referee

Ipswich Vs Sheffield Saturday April 2nd 7.30pm
mickthemuppet replied to ZODIAK's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
One of the reasons that people went to Speedway and got in the habit of going, was they knew there was a match on a certain day of the week. In this case Ipswich on a Thursday night so what ever was happening during the year you knew there was a meeting every Thursday night and arranged things accordingly. So this season we have started with these home fixtures on a Thursday night Thursday 17th March--------------Scunthorpe Thursday 24th March--------------Nothing Thursday 31st March---------------Nothing Thursday 7th April-------------------Nothing Thursday 14th April------------------Peterborough Thursday 21st April------------------No Meetng /Thursday 28 th April-----------------Somerset Thursday 5th May--------------------No meeting Thursday 12th May------------------Rye House Thursday 19th May-------------------No meeting Thursday 2th May---------------------Edininburgh So we are in the third month of the season and have only 5 Thursday night meetings where years ago we would have had 11 Thursday night meetngs -
Not quite true really as clothes rationing finished in 1949. Although meat was still rationed until 1954 there was so much about that most butchers never bothered with the coupons so in the end the government too it off the ration. The main killers for Speedway was the Entertainment Tax and also the closing of Wembley to Speedway

What sort of betting is this. Three bookmakers has put their odds up and every single one has the same price for each team. Not any value in any team.
-
Perhaps Orion did the engraving
-
It's very odd that the Bookmakers can price up odds on this years Derby. Most of them have up to 50 horses quoted yet there are still 475 horses left in the races There are around 125 horses still engaged in this years Grand National yet most bookmakers do not even list half of them. As you say how can they possibly price up an event if you leave one out I have not seen your price yet for Kings Lynn how

Poland, When The Bubble Bursts....?
mickthemuppet replied to Shale Searcher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The non payment of riders in Poland has been going on for years -
Because who ever Leicester sign will not make any difference So young Orion how would you price up the Elite League, would you price up the teams different DAY job-I don't have a day job and never had ,since Betfair started. Much easier than working
-
As Kings Lynn have only 5 riders it is impossible to price them up. Perhaps Orion might like to give them a price

is the 1961 World Speedway final hard to find as I never seem to see it advertised. is there a reason for this?
-
Yet he could not bring success to Leyton Orient football team that has always lounged in the lower echelons of the football leagues

mickthemuppet replied to BOBBATH's topic in Years Gone By
As I was at the 1957 Final and the riders were as all as shown in the programme with no alterations This had 17. Brian Crutcher, 18. Jack Biggs as the meeting reserves -
Last time I went to Prague we sat on the fourth bend and got covered in shale so after two races we just decamped ourselves into the main stand as there were not any checks to where you sat once the meeting started
