Something Speedway has been crying out for. A Speedway promoter with a lot of money ...welcome Robin Southwell and if you are as successful as in all your other business ventures , Belle Vue has a bright future Hope he does not turn out like Stuart Bamforth though

Speedway And The National Press
mickthemuppet replied to Skid Sprocket's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The problem is Speedway does not get hardly any publicity as it is compared to Profession Wrestling. When you have riders riding for different teams how can it be taking seriously. Some riders during a season might ride for nearly all the teams in the league as a guest Before 1955 there were no guests. I can remember on a Thursday night at Wembley and the Evening News would have the whole back page about that evenings meeting with photos of the away team riders as well as the home riders and all the heat details .At that time there were bigger write ups for Wembley Lions than any London Football club. The next day in the Daily Express used to give the results and riders scores and a write up of how the meeting went. The write up was roughly the size of a Speedway Star report Today nearly all riders for more than one team. How can any outside comprehend this -
In no particular I would go for Jack Parker, Bruce Pennell, John Cook, Alan Mogridge, Gary Middleton, Tomasz Gollob, Nikki Pedersen, Darcy Ward, Kenny Carter, and Mark Loram
-
The reason they do no open the gates for a practice day in because it would count as a meeting. I think they are only allowed 28 meetings per season This is because the council only allow 55 meetings there a year
-
The match even got a mention on Prime Ministers question time as did Wimbledon v Sutton
-
The problems for Ipswich are how can you develop and produce youngsters to the sport when Foxhall is restricted to 55 meetings per year. There is also a restriction of a curfew(22.15 I think) So how can you let youngsters practice and learn their craft

Where do any park and ride make a profit. Colchester P&R released figures today saying more people are using it but it lost more money than in the previous year For 2015 96.019 used the service compared to 2015 of 60,276.. They lost £306,240 last year which was £40,000 higher than the previous year
-
There is nothing wrong with this Ipswich team which I hope they will win the league and be promoted back to where they should be in the Premier League
-
i think you can say that the only four programnes worth over £100 at this moment in time are the finals of 1936/1937/1938 and 1961 I have never been able to work out why the Malmo final programne in 1961 is so valueable. Nearly all the other final programnes are worth less than £10

Tom Farndon...the Greatest Speedway Rider Of Them All
mickthemuppet replied to customhouseregular's topic in Years Gone By
Wow now you are talking .The greatest speedway rider of the 1930's and the 1940's. Nobody in Speedway has ever been in the top echelon of the sport for so long -
When Did Uk Speedway Decline Start?
mickthemuppet replied to a topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The beginning was the entertainment tax after WW2 The loss of Wembley Stadium and the losing of the World Finals there. A share out of the World Final profits kept many a club in profit Not knowing what the teams were, sometimes not until you got to the stadium Too many riders riding for teams they had nothing to do with Riders changing teams at the end of the season Riders doubling up between leagues -
Tom Farndon...the Greatest Speedway Rider Of Them All

When Ove Fundin rode for Wembley and partnered Dave Jessup the latter was paid a bonus to keep out of his way and not win the race Ove Fundin was never a team rider -
What a great idea . One season at £10 and there would be no speedway again in Uk
-
How can you exclude from this list Freddie Williams a double world champion and runner up as well. Interesting that you put 4 Wembley riders above him
-
Very good list. Jack Parker was head and tails above anybody else in that era what with the match race wins(Parker's Pension) and world finals and the Star championship. The Star championship was a bit of a rubbish competition It's a bit of a mystery how the riders were selected for it .Then the final like 1933 when Tom Farndon won it the were 20 riders and he never met 8 of them and it was won with 3 rides .A bit better the next year with 18 riders when Jack Parker won it but still a rubbish competition as he never met half the riders and still only had three rives.

Does British Speedway Have Future?
mickthemuppet replied to Pieman72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Perhaps it would be a good idea of getting rid of the speedway riders and just have drone racing -
Surely if you want value for money would it not make more sense to take out a subscription
-
Speedway Star is a great magazine for such a small sport. I also used to have the Ace magazine which covered Tennis all over the world. Sadly as it was not profitable and ceased about 5 years ago.So Speedway is such a lucky sport to have such a magazine
-
I would think a team from Wembley would be a top contender with Freddie Williams. Ove Fundin, Tommy Price, Lionel van Praag, Brian Crutcher, Bill Kitchen, Split Waterman with Dave Jessup at number eight Or perhaps Ipswich with Tony Richardsson, Thomas Gollob, John and Chris Louis, Anders Michanek, Dennis Sigalos, and Mark Loran with Billy Sanders at number 8

Premiership And Championship
mickthemuppet replied to secsy1's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Exactly as that is what Speedway is all about which is making money Ask any promoter what would you prefer; winning the league of making a profit I know what the answer would be -
I find it hard to understand why Rye House are now in a higher league than Ipswich. I used to go to Rye House when it was a training track. Ipswich in the 1970's were one of the top clubs in the country with great attendances. When ever I have been to Rye House their gates are far smaller that at Foxhall. so how can they go up and the Witches still stay in a lower league?
