  1. As a member of the Lawn Tennis Association I could not believe that the Davis Cup team was the team of the year. Without the Murray's the rest of the team won just a handful of matches. As many team would have beaten GB like Switzerland where Roger Federer and Stanislaw Warwrinka decline to play. If the Davis Cup final had not been played yet the British team would not have been mentioned. The finalists Belgium were a very weak team. Surely Tyson Fury should have won easily but he could not keep his mouth shut. After all how many Brits have ever been World Heavyweight Boxing Champion The usual BBC nothing for Speedway . Shame they could not mention Tai the two time champion and his great rides for Charity
  2. So how many times does Lewis Hamilton race GP's in England or how many times does Andy Murray play in tournaments in England. Even Tyson Fury won his world title abroad
  3. The reason that Spedworth are leaving Wimbledon is because the LEZ emission laws enforced in and around London making it difficult and uneconomic for many racers to transport their cars to the track.
  4. There were four as Ove Fundin rode for Wembley although not at the same time as he won the titles.
  5. Freddie Williams won two world titles and was runner up within four years so hardly a Egon Muller type winner. People always quote that perhaps Freddie Williams or Tommy Price might not have won the world title had it no have been on their own track, yet nobody ever mentions the other Wembley rider who won a world title
  6. Having seen English FA Cup finals and England international football matches , Wimbledon Tennis finals and England cricket teams regaining the Ashes in the early fifties with Compton and Bill Edrich .Also the Manchester United football team just before the Munich air crash the best sporting event I have ever seen was the 1949 World Speedway final at Wembley . Nothing could compare to the atmosphere that evening. I have never so many people at a sporting even before or ever since. As I supported Wembley it was the icing on the cake when Tommy Price won and I think it was the only time English riders were first, second and third
  7. The year that peter Craven was world champion which was 1954 Freddie Williams met Peter craven eight times . Peter Craven won only two of those head to heads one of which was when Freddie Williams crashed with Jimmy Gooch Through the 1950's Freddie Williams scored 1496 points over 7 seasons compared to Peter Craven scoring 1436 over nine seasons . FW won 2 world title during that period compared to PC one Even in FW last season (1956) they met 4 times and the head to head was FW 3 PC 2 Overall there was very little between them ,possibly Peter Craven was slighly the better but during the 1950's FW was definately the better rider .At least I saw all the riders in the 1950's ,I wonder if you saw any of them at all during that period.
  8. I fail to understand what that has got to do with their head to heads
  9. Freddie Williams had a far superior head to head against Peter Craven. PC only beat FW five times in eighteen league and cup meetings and did not even have a head to head advantage at Belle Vue
  10. Pure rubbish, do you not think most clubs would change their nights if they had a choice. Belle Vue must be rubbing their hands that they will not have to race anymore on a Monday night. Ipswich always get a better gate on a Saturday night than they do on a Thursday. That's why years ago more matches were on a Friday or Saturday night than any other night of the week because then they had a choice.
  11. Not really horses for courses as John Louis the 6/1 winner at Bangor yesterday had never run there before
  12. My tennis club has just got planning permission to build houses on part of their grounds. One of the requirements imposed by the council in granting planning permission was that the new floodlight courts must be completed before any of the houses can be occupied. Surely the Swindon planning committee would imposed similar restriction on the building of the new stadium.
  13. Suffolk people were always known as strong in the arm and weak in the head
  14. Anybody recommend a good hotel in Warsaw. Prefer near to the stadium
  15. What would the point of having Danny King and Eddie Kennett in the same team. How many matches would they miss in a season with them both being in the Elite League.
  16. Pure rubbish saying Danny King and Eddie Kennett in the same Witches team . They would not finish any higher with those two than the team did this season
  17. Be interesting where you would find the heat leaders for these teams let alone the other riders
  18. But did not Chris Louis say he wished to build up a pool of riders to get back up in the Elite League
  19. i I wonder what they would have thought of a world championship final at Wembley then
  20. Is this the same Charles Ochiltree who sold the old Leicester speedway stadium for housing without telling the promoter Martin Rogers, who only knew when he saw it in the papers Surely Arthur Elvin who was the promoter at Wembley was the most successful ever
  21. In non professional tennis 50% at least foot fault and without a umpire or referee there is nothing you can do about it
  22. As D el lBoy would say "Quelle Suprise". Are we all waiting now for a withdrawal of Gomolski to make a "Fait Accompoli"
  23. looks like some riders could get through to the semi finals with 7 points
  24. Scott Nicholls fell on the first lap and was gestulating to the referee that the race should be stopped. Can you possibly believe that the referee could imagine a re-run due to first bend bunching. I would think that it all went so well with no re-runs and no injuries but a very mediocre final and not much excitement all night. . Nic Covatti led from the first lap and won very easily by about 50 yards
