  1. Well.. it was the adverts at her first trip to Kings Lynn at the SWC, too, if that's any more of an Italian inspiration! Once the outcome of Mildenhall stadium at court comes out, I guess then we can all have a better idea if there's a possibility of speedway again there. If the bangers/stocks get stopped, well.. that would mean no hope anyway.
  2. c/o BSPA Club Press Releases: WEDNESDAY JULY 28, 2010 Wightlink Islanders joint team managers and promoters, Kevin Shepherd and Chris Hunt were jubilant after the demolition job carried out on local rivals Weymouth last night. Shepherd said, we wanted a big performance and that is what we got. Hunt said this was great and in front of our biggest crowd of the season, this will set us up for another big local derby against Bournemouth next Tuesday, “bring ‘em on” Lee Smethills came into the side and recorded a paid 10 return, including an excellent win in heat 8 when the Cats were throwing a last chance dice with McKinna riding for double points, but we were a team tonight, everyone scored points and a special mention must go to Brendan Johnson, who recorded 4 impressive wins.
  3. And following the Islanders home victory on Tuesday, they head over to the deep, dark depths of Dorset (yes, I'm talking rubbish... hey, I have to try and make it sound even more interesting ) to take on the Wildcats at home. Hopefully the Islanders can put up a good show for themselves.
  4. I know it was always a possibility, but still awful to hear this news. Will miss my trips to Mildenhall Speedway, which is where I got one of my friends hooked on speedway so much she suggested going on holiday to Italy so we could go to the Italian GP!
  5. Fair play - apologies, I skimmed your post whilst being distracted by other things.
  6. Not to mention whilst I understand you use £5 as an average figure, I doubt the top riders in the NL would race for that week in week out. I'd imagine double that would be more the standard rate.
  7. A very good result. Heat 01: Simmons, Smethills, McKinna, 5-1, 5-1, 71.6 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Lee Smethills, Byron Bekker, Adam McKinna Comments: Even break but Bekker away from the start. Looked slow going into 3rd/4th bend though, think he forgot to turn on his fuel! Simmons stormed round outside, and whilst Bekker fiddled with his tap, he impeded his team-mate McKinna, and let Smethills into 2nd place. McKinna got ahead on next lap, but Smethills kept it going to earn a debut paid win. Bekker kept going until the final lap, then retired. Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.net Heat 02: Hill, Chessell, Felton, Andrews, 4-2, 9-3, 72.5 Line Up: Dean Felton, Tom Hill, Richard Andrews, Luke Chessell Comments: Wildcats away from the tapes first, but Hill on a charge and into the lead on 4th bend. Felton stalking quietly in 3rd, but making no impression, whilst Hill romps to the win. Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Warwick, Johnson, Brown, 5-1, 14-4, 69.1 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Tom Brown, Gary Cottham Comments: Flier from Warwick, whilst Cottham was left 5 yards from the tapes. Johnson then squeezed around the outside of ex-iow rider Brown to give the I.o.W. a fantastic start! Brown was moaning about the track at the start of the meeting, and looked completely un-interested once he had been passed. Cottham retired. Sponsored by: Speedway fans, we will take your favourite picture and turn it into an awesome one-off gift, check us out at www.createaclock.co.uk Heat 04: Hopwood, Cockle, Hill, Chessell, 4-2, 18-6, 69.5 Line Up: Ben Hopwood, Tom Hill, James Cockle, Luke Chessell Comments: Weymouth make the gate again, but both Islanders get past their respective counterparts on 1st bend to be on a 4-2. Simple after that really, Hopwood looking very sharp. Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Heat 05: Johnson, Warwick, McKinna, 5-1, 23-7, 70.5 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, BYRON BEKKER, Adam McKinna Comments: Bekker on a Tactical. Good gate from the putside pair of Johnson and Bekker, but its Warwick who leaps out from the inside to take the lead, just keeping the tactical Bekker behind him, allowing Johnson to take the quicker outside line. Bekker harried Johnson all the way, before sliding off on his own on 2nd to last bend, before remounting and retiring. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: Cockle, Simmons, Smethills, Andrews, 3-3, 26-10, 71.3 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Lee Smethills, James Cockle, Richard Andrews Comments: Great gate from Smethills to lead, with Simmons penned in 3rd place by Cockle. Nearly a big moment on 3/4th bend between top 3, before Cockle goes past Smethills into lead, quickly followed by Simmons. Great race between those 2, but Cockle held on, Smethills some way back in third. Sponsored by Heat 07: Brown, Hopwood, Felton, Cottham, 3-3, 29-13, 71.2 Line Up: Ben Hopwood, Dean Felton, Tom Brown, Gary Cottham Comments: Weymouth gated, but Hopwood into 2nd place, before Felton outside of Cottham on back straight. Hopwood and Brown tangle on back straight, but stay upright, Hopwood never more than a bike length from Brown. Couldn't get past though, 3-3. Sponsored by Merlin Heat 08: Smethills, MCKINNA, Hill, Chessell, 4-4, 33-17, 71.5 Line Up: Lee Smethills, Tom Hill, ADAM MCKINNA, Luke Chessell Comments: McKinna on a tactical ride. Decent start from McKinna, but Smethills nudged him wide. Hill quickly into 3rd place to share the heat. McKinna getting closer and closer to Smethills though, before tailing off. Sponsored by www.methanolpilot.com - dedicated to helping speedway Heat 09: Johnson, Cockle, Warwick, Andrews, 4-2, 37-19, 69.6 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, James Cockle, Richard Andrews Comments: Even break, but Warwick and Andrews left very little room on the outisde by the others! Johnson out in front though, and comfortably holding off Cockle, looking much, much quicker than recent weeks. Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt -- Short Interval -- Heat 10: Brown, Simmons, Smethills, Cottham, 3-3, 40-22, 71.8 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Lee Smethills, Tom Brown, Gary Cottham Comments: Brown away first, clamping Simmons on white line, causing Simmons to cut back to the outside line. Simmons very close to passing Brown on 2nd bend, laps 2 and 3, before running out of time. Smethills just held off a hard charging Cottham on the line by half a bike! Sponsored by Heat 11: Felton, Bekker, McKinna, Hopwood, 3-3, 43-25, 71.4 Line Up: Ben Hopwood, Dean Felton, Byron Bekker, Adam McKinna Comments: Felton away like a flash, with Hopwood and Bekker at the back! Great scrap between them, passign and re-passing, all the time getting closer to Felton, who held on very well. Bekker with a audacious dive up the inside of his team-mate, that almost allowed Hopwood through as well! Sponsored by Heat 12: Warwick, Brown, Hill, Andrews, 4-2, 47-27, 70.6 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Tom Hill, Tom Brown, Richard Andrews Comments: Warwick away superbly, whilst Andrews was rolling, and stopped just as the tapes rose, justice as he was stranded waiting for Christmas! Strung out after that, 4-2. Credit to Ref for letting it go as well, a lot would have brought that back for an unsatisfactory start. Sponsored by Heat 13: Hopwood, Simmons, Bekker, Cockle 5-1, 52-28, 70.4 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Ben Hopwood, Byron Bekker, James Cockle Comments: Hopwood away well, followed by cockle, but Simmons comes through into 2nd. Fantastic battle between Simmons and Bekker over next 2 laps, going inside and outside each other at least 4 times, never more than a blanket apart, and seperated by a tyre width on the line, Simmons just getting the verdict in 2nd, brilliant, brilliant race, get the DVD (nice plug for T2TV!) Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: Johnson, Felton, Chessell, Cottham, 5-1, 57-29, 70.9 Line Up: Brendan Johnson, Dean Felton, Gary Cottham, Luke Chessell Comments: Islanders gate, and stay there. Sponsored by Heat 15: Simmons, Brown, Cockle, Johnson, 3-3, 60-32, 70.5 Line-up: Brendan Johnson, Nick Simmons, James Cockle, Tom Brown Comments: Weymouth win toss taking gates 2&4. Simmons away from gate 3, Johnson left at the back. He then locked up on 1st bend second time round to fall back. Brown really pressurising Simmons at the front, with Cockle ready to pounce as well. Simmons too good though, for a great win. Sponsored by Deadlock Clothing - www.deadlockclothinguk.com ************************* Comments: Teams confirmed. 8. Not read your comments, but fair play to you for apologising and taking the criticism knowing you made remarks you shouldn't have done.
  9. Heat times were generally between 59.0 - 62.0 from what I recall.
  10. Being young does not mean I do not understand grief. Yes, people deal with grief differently, and yes, life is hard, few people exist in the world as it is today that are naive enough to believe otherwise. Not knowing Ray Mascall personally, I couldn't say how he may be coping and thus have no right to comment as to whether or not he is too distraught to make rational decisions or not. I can, however, understand how he could have lost heart or interest in the sport after his loss. I am not saying it means how things are being dealt with is correct, I'm merely saying I don't think that comment was necessary.
  11. Whilst the loss of Jean must be taken into consideration in Ray's part in this, I don't feel that is a fair comment. Anyone who has just lost a loved one will be grieving enough, and probably feeling guilty for completely nonsensical reasons because they're feeling helpless. Comment's like that do not help anything, and I feel that's very harsh. I cannot find the correct word's to describe, but I think you get the gist of what I'm trying to say. Essentially, I would term that a low blow.
  12. Mentions on the website, in date order, go as follows: They will not be back in action until August 1 at home to Buxton. Two away fixtures have already been postponed but a solution is likely to be needed before the Tigers to host Buxton next weekend. It seem's its still very much up in the air, but it doesnt look too promising. I'm sure there will be more news shortly, though that may not be of much help for you planning.
  13. Was a good meeting last night (overlooking the poor directions from the new/hired in/whatever stewards in the field, and the good hour it took to be able to get out), despite the storm of flies and moths! I've not been to Lynn much this year, and from Heat 1 it was enjoyable - you could really feel that the riders out on track were going for it, and it meant something to them. If I'm not at a festival, I look forward to watching the final on the telebox.
  14. I know, I'm getting lonely on these threads...
  15. Updates can be found here. Press Release by Weymouth c/o BSPA: WEYMOUTH: ISLE OF WIGHT V WILDCATS (NL) - PREVIEW MONDAY JULY 26, 2010 Following the home win against Plymouth Devils on Saturday night the Weymouth Weyline Wildcats travel across the Solent for the third time this season to take on the Isle of Wight Islanders in National league action at the Smallbrook Stadium on Tuesday evening 7.30pm start. The two previous trips have proved fruitless for the Wildcats losing 56-38 in April in the Pete Redfern Memorial Trophy fixture followed by a loss in the Knock-out Cup in early May 51-39. The Islanders have just recruited ex-Cat Lee Smethills following his release from Plymouth and also include two other former Cats Danny Warwick and Brendan Johnson. They are lead by Nick Simmons with Ben Hopwood in the middle order and reserve pairing of experienced Dean Felton and Tom Hill. Wildcats team remains unchanged from Saturday night’s victory over Plymouth, new signing Adam McKinna said after Saturday night’s fixture “I’ve always been slightly better suited to the big tracks so hopefully I’ll be able to go there and get out front, a much bigger track is always much easier to pass on but down here at Weymouth the one pass I made on Saturday night was just so close wheel to wheel and it’s not what I’m used to, I’m used to bigger tracks and on the Isle of Wight at least there is a bit of room to manoeuvre.” Wildcats will be looking for an away win over fellow bottom of the table strugglers to leap frog the Islanders in the league table. The return fixture is at the Wessex Stadium on Friday evening 7.15pm start time. If you are able to display an A4 poster to help promote Weymouth Speedway there is a downloadable poster available on the homepage of the clubs website www.weymouthwildcats.co.uk LINE UPs: ISLE OF WIGHT WIGHTLINK ISLANDERS 1. 16. Is it really helping the situation posting all of this on the forums?
  17. I doubt the season started with the thought 'lets go bust'! Besides of which, as far as season ticket holders are concerned, if the takeover goes ahead all meetings will presumably be held still, it will just be a delay. There's no point second guessing until you know more. The riders are actually owed money now... technically, the club has not closed (yet, at least), so you haven't lost anything yet, and may not.
  18. Good to listen to it on the radio, though some heats the commentator hasn't seemed entirely enthusiastic. He seems a bit more into it now, though! Do like the service... but where's the webcam? I wanna watch, too
  19. c/o BSPA: DUDLEY: HEATHENS V ISLE OF WIGHT (NL) - PREVIEW TUESDAY JULY 20, 2010 PLAY-OFF chasing Dudley Heathens race only their second meeting at Birmingham on Wednesday when they face Isle of Wight Islanders in a vital National League clash (7.30). Heathens, carrying the famous old name of the Cradley Heath club, are once again expecting a bumper crowd at Perry Barr - and there's plenty of interest for Birmingham fans too with club assets Lee Smart and Jake Anderson currently on loan to Dudley. Will Pottinger's men are fresh from a stunning win at King's Lynn on Sunday which rocketed them to the verge of the top four. And they welcome back British youngster James Sarjeant who has accepted an invitation to race for the club again in place of the injured Richard Franklin at reserve. Sarjeant was replaced by Micky Dyer a month ago in a controversial move - but he's back for this meeting and will also ride in the re-arranged Golden Hammer in September. Said Pottinger: "This is a big meeting for us, it's no good winning at King's Lynn if we then follow it up with a home defeat. But there is little home track advantage because the bulk of our home meetings so far have been at Wolves. "We're delighted to welcome James back for this meeting, it was a very, very tough call to replace him with Micky as I said at the time and as soon as we needed to fill a slot at reserve with the injury to Rich we agreed we would offer it to James first." DUDLEY: Lee Smart, Micky Dyer, Tom Perry, Jake Anderson, Jon Armstrong, Ashley Morris, James Sarjeant. ISLE OF WIGHT: Nick Simmons, Ricky Scarboro, Brendan Johnson, Danny Warwick, Ben Hopwood, Dean Felton, Tom Hill.
  20. I was going on the Heathen's press release comment of:
  21. And Isle of Wight face a tough test at Birmingham, visiting the strong Heathens, who I think will be without Richard Franklin after his crash last night at Kings Lynn..
  22. Now I've bought (sort of... ) a ticket, and my friend can come, rather looking forward to this meeting. Just hope don't have to park up the field and walk a mile to get there, though I suppose I could do with the exercise!
  23. Hoping to come to another NL meeting soon but unfortunately have a friend's birthday BBQ (weather permitting!) to attend, or would be bringing a friend who has recently discovered the joys of speedway with me too. Never mind.. one day soon!
  24. Rained off, to be re-staged August 8th.
