Buxton V Mildenhall Sunday July 18th
rhidassa replied to 25yearfan's topic in National League Speedway
Yes, rider's should be paid with priority. However, the crowds aren't large, riders wages aren't the only expenses there are, and to be honest, none of us know what happens behind the scenes, so doesn't exactly give us the right to say they don't have a clue. Mildenhall has struggled for years under various managements, main reason being financial as far as I've seen without big enough crowds to make it overly profitable, if at all! (If I'm wrong, please, correct me.) Insulting those that try and run it for your entertainment hardly does any good, does it? It certainly doesn't encourage anyone to take it over. In all honesty if I'd been considering taking it over and read that, I'd think stuff it. And don't get me wrong, I enjoy my visits down the road to West Rowe, and I hope someone can make a go-er of it. I'm fully aware forums are to express your opinion, but if you can't do it politely, sometimes I think it's best to keep your opinion to yourself. -

Seems a lack of interest in this... Press Release from Plymouth: Wednesday July 14, 2010 PLYMOUTH continue an important run of four National League matches in 12 days when they face the Isle of Wight at the St Boniface Arena on Friday evening (7.30pm). It gives the Devils a chance of quick revenge following Tuesday’s 52-41 defeat away to the Islanders. Plymouth have two more crucial fixtures in their bid to reach the championship play-offs with a home match against King’s Lynn on Friday July 23 followed by a visit to bottom on the table Weymouth on Saturday July 24. The Devils retain an unchanged line-up from Tuesday. David Gough is still sidelined with a collarbone injury and the rider replacement facility will again be in operation. The Islanders will be without number one Nick Simmons, who is unavailable, and use Dudley’s 19-year-old Australian Micky Dyer as a guest replacement. He top-scored for the Somerset Giants on their recent visit to the St Boniface Arena. Dyer and former Plymouth rider Ben Hopwood will be supported by Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson and 43-year-old Ricky Scarboro with Dean Felton and Tom Hill at reserve. Plymouth: Seemond Stephens, Matt Bates, Paul Starke, rider replacement, Mark Simmonds. Reserves: Jaimie Pickard, Ben Reade. Isle of Wight: Micky Dyer, Ricky Scarboro, Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Ben Hopwood. Reserves: Dean Felton, Tom Hill.

And as the scheduled visiting Fen Tigers are unable to make this Sunday, the Islanders visit Buxton this week instead, agreeing to a late fixture change, I believe. Any idea's on line-ups?

Scarboro got the jump on Bates, but was passed coming into the 4th turn. Track quite dusty, despite being quite wet on top, could be interesting. At the front, Simmons was stalking Stephena all the way, before going round the outside of him on the last turn, great move. Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.net Heat 02: Felton, Hill, Pickard, Reade, 5-1, 8-4, 73.9 Comments: Even break, but the Islanders emerge at the front, Reade in a right old state! Biggest challenge the I.o.W. had was themselves, I would say it was great team riding . . . . . . . . Easy 5-1. Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Re-Run: Warwick, Johnson, Starke, 5-1, 13-5, 73.8 Comments: Jaimie Pickard taking R/R. Warwick with a blinder from the outside, but the tapes didn't rise on the inside, almost taking Starke's head off, which he didn't look too pleased about! Heat being re-run. Re-Run: Another good gate from Warwick see him hit the front, with Johnson taking a good line to move into second down the back straight. Again, the only threat to the I.o.W. were each other. Pickard retired. Sponsored by: Speedway fans, we will take your favourite picture and turn it into an awesome one-off gift, check us out at www.createaclock.co.uk ... Sunshine!! Heat 04: Simmonds, Hopwood, Hill, 3-3, 16-8, 71.5 Comments:Hill away from the gate, but Simmonds outside him on back straight. Reade round the outside on bend 4, but fell on his own and remounted before retiring. Hopwood quickly into 2nd place, but Simmonds too far ahead. Nice rainbow appeared over the back straight as well. Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Bit of tractor racing. Heat 05: Warwick, Stephens, Johnson, Bates, 4-2, 20-10, 71.8 Comments: Warwick and Stephens both with brilliant gates, but Seemonds outside run saw him hit the front entering the back straight, before Warwick leapt round the outside of him, storming round the banking for the lead. Johnson got closer and closer to Stephens, but couldn't pass him. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: SIMMONDS, Simmons, Scarboro, 3-7, 23-16, 71.3 Comments: Mark Simmonds on a Tactical Ride. Simmonds reared at the start, which left Simmons to clamp him down, but Simmonds pushed through for the lead. Pickard then fell off on 1st bend, 2nd lap, but got up quickly to push his bike onto the centre green. Simmons had a moment on the 2nd bend, lap 3, but held on for 2nd place. Sponsored by Heat 07: Hopwood, Felton, Starke, Reade, 5-1, 28-17, 71.6 Comments: Ben Reade taking R/R ride. Hopwood away, with Starke trying to go under him. Felton attacking Starke hard though, trying inside, then outside, before nailing him on home straight. Starke right back at him though, before finally running out of steam. Reade = nowhere. Felton very happy as he crossed the line, some good head-banging action going on!!! Sponsored by Merlin Tractor racing again. Heat 08: Bates, Scarboro, Hill, Pickard, 3-3, 31-20, 74.5 Comments: Pickard in for Reade. Plenty of smoke from Scarboro's machine before the start, but a decent start from smokey put him into the lead, with Hill tucked in behind. Bates never far away, and always in with a chance considering the I.o.W. team riding, which saw him go straight up the inside of both of them going into the 3rd bend, 3rd lap. To be fair, I think Hill was faster, but trying to help Scarboro slowed him up. Sponsored by www.methanolpilot.com - dedicated to helping speedway Heat 09: Simmonds, Warwick, Johnson, Reade, 3-3, 34-23, 71.1 Comments: Reade in for Pickard. Simmonds with a great start, nothing Warwick or Johnson could do but watch as he romped home. Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt Heat 10: Simmons, Bates, Starke, 3-3, 37-26, 73.4 Comments: Bates taking R/R. Scarboro with a great gate, Simmons following into a 5-1 position. However, unlike Hill, Simmons cleared off for the win, leaving Scarboro to fight his own battles!! On more than one occasion the Devils got close, before Scarboro, having done the hard work, retired on back straight. Starke also seemed to have trouble on last lap, but coasted home for 3rd. Sponsored by Heat 11: Stephens, Hopwood, Bates, 2-4, 39-30, No Time Comments: Bates excluded under 2 mins. Going off 15m handicap. Stephens with the drop, Hopwood just behind, with Bates straight onto Feltons tail. Really dusty out there now. Felton fell through the dust on bend 2, lap 3, and isn't getting up. Race awarded. Felton spun going into bend & slid through dust into fence. Now up on his feets & walking back to pits, Rusty says big drama queen! Sponsored by Interval being taken. Heat 12: Warwick, Starke, Hill, 4-2, 43-32, 71.8 Comments: Hill nudges tapes, goes off 15m. Warwick away and into the lead, Hill right on Pichards exhaust pipe! Storming move from Hill around Pickard on the 3/4th bends to take 3rd place. Pickard retired a lap later, easy win for Warwick. Sponsored by Thinking about getting a website? - www.brightstardesigns.co.uk - The Bright Light In Website Design Heat 13: Simmonds, Hopwood, Simmons, 3-3, 46-35, 71.3 Comments: Simmonds away from the tapes and gone, with Stephens up there as well, before both Islanders blast past going into 3rd bend, first Hopwood, then Simmons. Simmonds just too quick though. Stephens retired. Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: Re-Run: Felton, Starke, Johnson, 4-2, 50-37, 72.9 Comments: Starke taking R/R. Its a different Islanders team tonight, as another pair jump from the tapes into a commanding lead. Reade high sided on 2nd bend, lap 2 into fence, and stayed down, bike tumbling down the track, into the fence. Race stopped, and will be re-run. Reade excluded from re-run but up and walking back to pits. Re-Run: Ditto first running, Isalnders away, although this time Starke pushed forcefully under Johnson on 4th bend, before setting after Felton, but with no joy. Sponsored by Heat 15: Simmonds, Warwick, Stephens, Hopwood, 2-4, 52-41, 71.3 Line-up: Ben Hopwood, Danny Warwick, Seemond Stephens, Mark Simmonds Comments: IoW win toss again taking 2&4. Elbows galore between Hopwood and Stephens, but Warwick couldn't quite get over Simmonds, to leave a Devils 4-2 after 1 lap. Both Islanders very wide on last lap, trying to get past, but to no avail. Sponsored by Deadlock Clothing - www.deadlockclothinguk.com ************************* Comments: Teams confirmed. Ref is Mick Bates. Been raining on & off all day so track a bit slippy. I.o.W. won the toss, and will take 2 & 4 in heat 1. Rusty wants to say a quick hello to his dad who is poorly tonight & watching the updates as he couldn't make it. © 2005-2010 All meetings are copyrighted to Speedway Updates, permission must be sought and we must be fully credited before they are used elsewhere.

And this week Plymouth take the ferry over to challenge the Islanders.. c/o BSPA Press Releases: PLYMOUTH will be without the injured David Gough for their National League visit to the Isle of Wight on Tuesday evening. Gough injured his collarbone in Friday’s challenge match against Team Viking. The collarbone is not broken, as was first thought, but heavy bruising means that Gough is likely to be sidelined for a couple of weeks. The Devils will operate the rider replacement facility against the Isle of Wight, who are due at the St Boniface Arena for the return match on Friday evening. Plymouth: Seemond Stephens, Matt Bates, Paul Starke, rider replacement, Mark Simmonds. Reserves: Jaimie Pickard, Ben Reade. And updates will be available here.

Firstly, I was not directing this question at you, or perhaps you would have understood the context in which it was asked. Secondly, I am not against "foreign riders". I am against foreign riders coming over on too low averages. If a foreign rider comes over, improves and shows himself to be an exciting rider, I have no problem. I don't particularly like it when a foreign rider comes over, doesn't do a marvellous job and remains in the reserve berth for years to come, or when a rider comes over on a low average slotting straight into reserve berths. To be frank I have no idea to what you are referring, not following Buxton's fortunes/misfortunes, when you say you are rather annoyed that disrespectful people who have power take matters into their own hands to dis-arm the Buxton team. The point I was making in my original post was that surely you cant be against your riders being offered a PL spot/races in the PL? They dont want to be in the NL for ever, the National League is, essentially, supposed to be a development league, and not only does racing PL give them better experience but its building blocks for a better career. If a young British rider wanted to be in the NL all his career, I would think he perhaps lacked ambition to try and make it further in the sport.

Despite the dust, was an enjoyable afternoon. Certainly nice to see both old and new friends, and was a nice sunny afternoon to watch the racing. A better result than on some recent travels for the Islanders, though a shame Nick was unavailable. -

Brundle is a regular around the British circuits as he forms part of Troy Batchelor's pit crew and speaking of his new capture Bournemouth team manager Garry May said "I am pleased that James has agreed to ride for us. He was on my wanted list and I think he will come in and do a good job for us."

Both Press Releases c/o BSPA... Islanders Press Release TO coincide with the visit of ex Southampton Saint Barry Briggs visiting the Island as part of his round Britain bike ride the Islanders duly gave an on track display that the management team of Chris Hunt and Kevin Shepherd knew they were more than capable of producing. In very warm conditions the Islanders knew they had a fight on their hands from heat number one when the impressive visiting guest Newport Hornets Mark Jones lead his team mate Steve Worrall from the gate ahead of the Island home pairing of skipper Nick Simmons and debutant Rikki Scarboro. Simmons finally forced away past Worrall but could not catch the fast starting Jones. The tide started to turn towards the Islanders in heat three when visiting Gary Irving was adjudged to of been the primary cause of the stoppage after falling on the first bend and duly disqualified from the re-run. His partner Scott Richardson then ground to a halt in the re-run and unfortunately it was too early in the race for him to be able to push home for a consolation point gifting the home side a 5-0 and a lead in the meeting they were never to lose. Shrewd tactical moves by visiting team manager Stuart Parnaby include an 8-1 heat win in heat eight from Jones on a tactical ride and the impressive Ashley Birks kept the home side management on tender hooks as it brought the away side to within 6 points of the Islanders at the half way point. This was followed by 3 shared heats including one when Brendan Johnson who was on a 5-1 with partner suffered a fall on the middle of bend 3&4 when under pressure from Steve Worrall, although Brendan had no complaints with the visiting riders move. The race of the night however was still to come in heat 11 when the visiting duo of Jones and Scott Richardson led the home pairing of Ben Hopwood and Dean Felton from the gate, but Hopwood was having none of it and passed Jones going into the 3rd bend with a forceful but fair manoeuvre before passing Richardson to gain the heat win and it was good to see all riders shaking hands after the race. Parnaby’s final throw of the dice was to put reserve Ashley Birks out on a tactical ride in heat 14 to try and salvage something from the meeting, all to no avail as the home pairing of Danny Warwick and Dean Felton roared to a 5-1 and assured the home team of all 3 league points. Danny Warwick duly completed a 5 ride maximum in heat 15 when he led home skipper Nick Simmons for the 3rd 5-1 on the trot to give the Islanders a much needed morale boosting win. Joint team managers Kev Shepherd and Chris Hunt gave full credit to Scunthorpe for their performance. Kev said afterwards Stuart arrived with a changed team due to rider’s unavailability and illness but give credit where credit is due and they gave a very good account of themselves and kept us on edge. Our riders knew we needed a victory to prove to them they still have the ability which we had never doubted they had. Final Score Island 56 Scunthorpe 36 Scorers: Island Nick Simmons 12+2, Rikky Scarboro 2, Brendan Johnson 7+2, Danny Warwick 15, Ben Hopwood 9, Dean Felton 6+2, Tom Hill 6 Scunthorpe Mark Jones (G) 12+1, Benji Compton R/R, Scott Richardson 8, Gary Irving 0, Steve Worrall 6, Ritchie Worrall 2+1, Ashley Birks 8+2 Saints Press Release WITH a makeshift side, and four riders who had never seen the Isle of Wight’s massive 385-metre track before, the Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints produced a strong performance last night only for the Islanders’ side to finish the meeting with three 5-1 heat advantages to stretch the winning margin to twenty points. The final score was Isle of Wight 56, Scunthorpe 36 and leading the Saints’ scorers was guest rider Mark Jones who scored twelve points. Scott Richardson and Ashley Birks registered eight points a piece whilst Steve Worrall recorded six after having to move up to number five. With Benji Compton and Adam Wrathall out injured and Mark ‘Buzz’ Burrows unavailable because of a holiday the Saints were forced to track the inexperienced Ritchie Worrall, twin brother of Steve. The move also forced Steve out of the reserve berth but he immediately combined with Jones for a 4-2 heat victory in heat 1. Ashley Birks then worked his way past Dean Felton in heat 2 to keep the scores tied at six but the next race was a disaster for the Saints. First Gary Irving was excluded after coming down at the first bend and then Scott Richardson suffered an engine failure whilst second in the re-run. There was a reversal of fortunes in heat four when former Saint, Ben Hopwood, fell whilst chasing Steve Worrall and it enabled Ritchie Worrall to record his first race point in another 4-2 heat advantage. It left the scores at 13-10 but three heat advantages to the Islanders meant Team Manager Stuart Parnaby had to use a tactical ride in heat 8. He used it to maximum effect as Mark Jones and Ashley Birks combined for a superb 8-1 to bring the scores back to 28-22. Heat 9 certainly highlighted why Steve Worrall has been given his chance with the Premier League Scorpions with him re-passing Brendan Johnson entering turn three before chasing Danny Warwick to the line and, with Johnson falling shortly after being passed, the heat was shared. There was another drawn heat in heat 10 but the result could have been so different. The Saints pairing of Scott Richardson and Ashley Birks led until Market Rasen-based former Scorpion and Saint, Ricky Scarboro, making his home debut for the Islanders, rounded Birks at the end of the first lap. However, he then clipped the fence and crashed heavily half way down the straight. Thankfully the following riders managed to avoid him and despite being battered and bruised he walked away without any major injuries. Sadly, in the re-run the Islanders’ number one, and another former Scunthorpe rider, Nick Simmons, who had been stuck at the back of the first running made the gate and went on to win the heat. With the Saints generally gating quite well they looked set for another 5-1 in heat 11 but with Mark Jones trying to protect his team-mate Scott Richardson, he himself was passed by Ben Hopwood on lap two before Hopwood went on to pass Richardson later in the race. However, with four races to go the scoreline was 37-31 in favour of the home side and everything was still to be raced for. Unfortunately a potential Saints 4-2 went the other way in heat 12 with Johnson just getting the better of Richardson at the end of the first lap and Ashley Birks coming a cropper whilst lying in third place. With the track now quite slick the home side seemed to hold the advantage and Hopwood and Simmons claimed a 5-1 over Mark Jones and Steve Worrall in heat 13 to take the scores to 46-34. With the deficit twelve Stuart Parnaby gave Ashley Birks a tactical ride but he, along with Gary Irving, who had a disappointing meeting, were out-gated by Danny Warwick and Dean Felton and the home side had their second consecutive 5-1. Unsurprisingly Warwick and Simmons managed a third in heat 15 but there were plenty of positives to take out of the meeting and with Benji Compton set to return to the line-up at Weymouth on Friday, and Mark Jones to continue covering for ‘Buzz’ Burrows, the Saints will be hoping to pick up some league points before the weekend. I for one am looking forward to my first visit to Mildenhall (other than the rained off 4TT) this year to watch proper racing... Though I'll be a traitor and be supporting the Islanders over the considerably more local Fen Tigers. What predictions do we have for this one?

Heat Results Isle of Wight win toss, taking gates 1&3. Heat 01: Jones, Simmons, Worrall, Scarboro, 2-4, 2-4, 70.4 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Ricky Scarboro, Mark Jones, R/R - Steven Worrall Comments: Scunthorpe away from the tapes, but Simmons outside of S. Worrall on 3rd bend. Track a bit damp early on. Simmons close to Jones on last bend, but to no avail. Sponsored by www.enjaydesigns.net Heat 02: Hill, Birks, Felton, R Worrall, 4-2, 6-6, 72.7 Line Up: Dean Felton, Tom Hill, Richie Worrall, Ashley Birks Comments: R Worrall away well, but Hill round him on 2nd bend, before Felton followed suit on outside of 3rd bend! R Worrall then dropped right off, leaving Birks to chase Felton, and he gets him on the last bend, with a great outside swoop! Sponsored by Steve Dixon www.stevedixonphotography.co.uk Heat 03: Re-Run: Warwick, Johnson, 5-0, 11-6, 69.8 Line Up: Brendan Johnson, Danny Warwick, Scott Richardson, Gary Irving Comments: Great start from Wanny on the inside, but Irving fell off, apparently on his own, so the race was stopped. Irving threw his hands up, but was excluded anyway. Re-Run: Warwick away quickly again, and gone, leaving Richardson and Johnson to slug it out. Was a close battle, with Johnson possibly going through anyway, until Richardson retired on the home straight, 2nd time round to leave an easy 5-0 Sponsored by: Speedway fans, we will take your favourite picture and turn it into an awesome one-off gift, check us out at www.createaclock.co.uk Heat 04: S Worrall, Hill, R Worrall, Hopwood, 2-4, 13-10, 70.7 Line Up: Ben Hopwood, Tom Hill, Steven Worrall, Ashley Birks R Worrall Comments: Birks excluded under 2 mins, replaced by R Worrall. Good gate from Hill, but S Worrall just had the legs to keep him behind him. Hopwood outside of Hill on 2nd bend to try and get after S Worrall, but hit the fence and fell. Up and remounted to finish last, S Worall finishing clear. Slight excitement at end, and R Worrall had a sick bike, and just beat Hopwood to the line! Sponsored by Friends of Edinburgh Speedway http://www.foes.info/ Heat 05: Warwick, Johnson, Jones, Irving, 5-1, 18-11, 69.9 Line Up: Brendan Johnson, Danny Warwick, Mark Jones, R/R - Gary Irving Comments: Warwick away like a rocket, with Johnson squeezing under Jones along the back straight. Jones around outside on 3rd bend, but good defensive line kept him at bay. Tried it again on 3rd lap, and nearly put himself in stands on home straight! Irving a distant last. Sponsored by Splod Heat 06: Simmons, Birks, Scarboro, 4-2, 22-13 69.7 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Ricky Scarboro, Steven Worrall, Richie Worrall Ashley Birks Comments: Reserve change in Yellow with Birks in for R Worrall. Simmons got the jump and led into the back straight, with Scarboro at the back. But S Worrall locked up on 4th bend allowing him through, and then set about getting his place back. Packed up on bend 2, lap 4, though, with Scarboro pushing him all the way. Sponsored by Heat 07: Re-Run: Hopwood, Felton, Richardson, Irving, 5-1, 27-14, 71.3 Line Up: Ben Hopwood, Dean Felton, Scott Richardson, Gary Irving Comments: Felton the ringer left at the tapes, but Irving got (another) knock and fell off. Rerun with all 4. Re-Run: Both islanders away, and almost tripping over each other down the back striaght, as Richardson and Irving toil in the dust. Richardson closer to Felton towards the end, 1 more lap and he would've had him. Sponsored by Merlin Heat 08: JONES, Birks, Scarboro, 1-8, 28-22, 71.3 Line Up: Ricky Scarboro, Tom Hill, R/R - Mark Jones, Ashley Birks Comments: Mark Jones out on a Tactical on the R/R. Birks with a flyer, soon joined by double points Jones. Scarboro going high and wide to try for second place, but just lacking the speed. Hill got fed up at the back and tried to overtake him, with his bike going bang causing him to retire, hope its not too serious. Sponsored by www.methanolpilot.com - dedicated to helping speedway Heat 09: Warwick, S Worrall, R Worrall, 3-3, 31-25, 71.7 Line Up: Brendan Johnson, Danny Warwick, Steven Worrall, Richie Worrall Comments: Warwick with another smart gate into the lead, with Johnson going under S Worrall, before S Worrall went back under him on 3rd bend. Not sure about any contact, but Johnson went into the fence, before remounting for last. Johnson retired. S Worrall looking quick, but not as quick as Warwick! R Worrall looking slow. Sponsored by inthedirt clothing - inthedirt.co.uk - facebook.com/inthedirt Heat 10: Re-Run: Simmons, Richardson, Birks, 3-3, 34-28, 70.6 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Ricky Scarboro, Scott Richardson, Gary Irving Ashley Birks Comments: Ashley Birks in for Gary Irving. Scarboro with an awful gate, and Simmons was pushed to outside, very lucky not to fall, to put the Scorpions into a 5-1, but Scarboro went outside him on back straight, but coming onto the home straight, Scarboro picked up some drive and looped, and how the 2 riders behind him missed him is anybodies guess, bike cartwheeling down the track!! Up gingerly though, but race stopped, and he was excluded. 3 riders only. Re-Run: Simmons with decent start, but Richardson pushed him wide all the way round the 1st and 2nd bends, Simmons keeping it wound on down the straightaway to take the lead (Ermolenko impression!) Easy 3-3. Sponsored by Heat 11: Hopwood, Richardson, Jones, Felton, 3-3, 37-31, 71.3 Line Up: Ben Hopwood, Dean Felton, Mark Jones, R/R - Scott Richardson Comments: Abysmal gate from the islanders, but Hopwood is riding some terrific inside lines to first pass Jones, then Richardson in successive laps. I think Jones may have got a touch on the way through, but they shook hands afterwards, great ride from Hopwood, if only he could gate!!! Sponsored by Heat 12: Johnson, Richardson, Hill, 4-2, 41-33, 71.9 Line Up: Brendan Johnson, Tom Hill, Scott Richardson, Richie Worrall Ashley Birks Comments: Ashley Birks in Yellow for Richie Worrall. Even break, with Richardson getting the nod down the back straight. Johnson stormed round him lap 2, bend 2, before Hill got past Birks when he fell on 4th bend on his own. Then retired. 2-4 turned into a 4-2, hooray! Sponsored by Thinking about getting a website? - www.brightstardesigns.co.uk - The Bright Light In Website Design *** Interval *** Heat 13: Hopwood, Simmons, Jones, S Worrall, 5-1, 46-34, 70.2 Line Up: Nick Simmons, Ben Hopwood, Mark Jones, Steven Worrall Comments: Hopwood with a great gate around the outside, whilst Simmons clamps Jones on the inside, really good bend from the Island pair. They were more interested in fighting each other, than looking out for the scorpions!! 5-1. Sponsored by Art and Stitch for all your sewing and art supplies www.artandstitch.co.uk Heat 14: Warwick, Felton, BIRKS, Irving, 5-1, 51-35, 71.7 Line Up: Danny Warwick, Dean Felton, Gary Irving, Ashley Birks Comments: Ashley Birks on a Tactical Ride. Carbon copy of ht 13, as the islanders romp away, Felton tucking in nicely behind Warwick. No double points for Birks in this one. Sponsored by Heat 15: Warwick, Simmons, Richardson, 5-1, 56-36, 71.4 Line-up: Danny Warwick, Nick Simmons, Mark Jones, Scott Richardson Comments: Scunthorpe won the toss taking gates 2&4. Very close 1st bend, Warwick just getting the lead, with Simmons taking flak from the Scorpion pair, but coming out in second place behind Warwick. Jones falls on his own, 1st bend, lap 2, but clears the track, full max for Warwick!!! Jones up and ok. c/o BSPA: SCUNTHORPE: ISLE OF WIGHT V SAINTS (NL) Tuesday June 29, 2010 THE Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints make the long journey to the Isle of Wight today to take on the Isle of Wight Islanders in a National League meeting and, not for the first time this season, their line-up could be termed makeshift. With Luke Chessell on loan to Weymouth and Adam Wrathall out with a fractured leg the Saints have had to call in Newport’s Mark Jones to cover for number one, Mark ‘Buzz’ Burrows, who is on a holiday that was booked before he signed for the club. To make matters worse Benji Compton will not be travelling after getting an infection in a wound. Coming into the line-up will be Richie Worrall, the twin brother of Steve Worrall who has recently been added to the Scorpions’ side. Richie, like his brother, was a Moto X rider and was competing at national level before recently deciding to switch to speedway. The Islanders, who currently sit two places below the Saints in the National League, have lost three of their four home league meetings have recently made a change to their line-up bringing in former Scorpion and Saint, Ricky Scarboro. He joins two other former Scunthorpe riders in their line-up with Nick Simmons, briefly a Scorpion in 2009, the club’s number one whilst Ben Hopwood has ridden for the Islanders since leaving the Saints at the end of 2008. The Saints have suffered heavy defeats (60-32 in 2008 and 59-35 in 2009) on their previous two visits to the Smallbrook Stadium with the 385-metre track proving a daunting prospect for many. The meeting starts at 7.30pm and the Saints are in action twice more this week. On Friday they once again head to the South Coast with a trip to Weymouth before taking on the Rye House Cobras in the second part of a double-header meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (5pm start). The meeting follows a Premier League meeting between the same two clubs. The full line-ups for tonight’s meeting are expected to be (English unless stated): Isle of Wight Islanders – 1. Nick Simmons, 2. Ricky Scarboro, 3.Danny Warwick, 4. Brendan Johnson, 5. Ben Hopwood, 6. Dean Felton, 7. Tom Hill Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Scorpions – 1. Mark Jones (Australia), 2. Rider replacement for Benji Compton, 3. Scott Richardson, 4. Gary Irving, 5. Richie Worrall, 6. Steve Worrall, 7. Ashley Birks

I knew my predicted line-up for Scunny would be wrong, hence the heat line-ups aren't there yet...

And for those interested (I know there are some of you.. you're just reading and not replying ), updates will be available here.

Taken from the Islanders Press Release announcing their recent signing of Ricky Scarborough (who rode yesterday at Kings Lynn for the Islanders): Action begins at 7.30pm on Tuesday at Smallbrook Stadium, but fans are advised to be early as 4 times World Champion, Barry Briggs, comes to the Island on part of his UK 'Ride' to raise money for wheelchair bound Speedway Riders. Briggs aims to raise over £100,000 on 'The Ride' which started at Wembley Stadium and finishes at Cardiff Millenium in July at the British Speedway Grand Prix. The former Southampton Rider, know to his fans worldwide as Briggo, rode for Saints in the early '60's and a big presence form the mainland is expected. It is also armed forces day at Smallbrook next week when all members of the Forces currently holding a warrant card can obtain free admission. Those travelling from the mainland, will also be able to get free travel from Wightlink and Vectis Bus to the Stadium as part of this 'thank you' to our serving Men and Women.

On my last visit to Weymouth, the ladies toilets in the football ground were clogged up and unusable - I had to resort to the portaloo. I admit it did leave an impression, and not a good one.

May I ask a straightforward question, and I'd appreciate it if you answer the question without considering other side topics.. Do you want the Premier League to be: a ) full of foreign riders over British riders, or b ) would you prefer British riders to be given the chance? Pick a or b, no 'but's please.

Doesn't exactly entice me to watch this. Will see what the other half wants to do, but I'm all for staying in the pub a bit longer! -

I'm so sorry to hear that. Jean and I did not share the same views at all times, and had a few disagreements in the past, but I'm glad we had resolved them. My condolences to all of her family and friends. I know to some extent what you're going through, having lost my father unexpectedly in the last few months, and no words I can say will make a damn bit of difference. -

Best thing is to ring them & see if they offer the option of transferring - perhaps make out your friends cant go but you have some other friends that may want the reservation and you're considering what to do.. See if they'll allow it to be transferred. Get the info without revealing too much, or they might not like it, wanting to get more money. -
