Somerset V Swindon 21/4/17
frigbo replied to Aroundtheboards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
You can't run even a vaguely professional sport on one-off agreements. It's supposed to be a level playing field for all clubs. Just when I get an inkling to give the sport another go, something ridiculous always comes along and reminds me why I shouldn't. The sport is an utter farce... -

Even if it does turn out to be FIM affiliated, people are still ignoring the "if permitted by Art 18.10" statement. -

But 18.10.1 then refers to "if permitted by Art 18.10" - therefore the definitive answer is in ART 18.10. That says R/R only for 2-5. Oh, and of course the small matter that 18.10.1 is nullified by the fact it isn'ta FIM meeting Hougaard is at. it's nonsense! -

So you're suggesting the ART 18.10 element only applied to the choice of R/R in this instance - looking at ART 18.10, only reserves (obviously) can't be covered by R/R anyway and a guest is permitted in this circumstance only, for a team position that is normally only covered by R/R? If so, that rule is incredibly clumsily worded and has been mis-interpreted by a large proportion of fans And it isn't a FIM meeting anyway, it'll be DMU - confused?!!! -

if permited by ART 18.10 is the key bit surely? -
These are Colin's BL era stats: http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/2198/colin-pratt These would indicate he was a bit better than suggested on this thread.

Swindon V Belle Vue. 06/04/17.
frigbo replied to Sidney the robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
No, scaphoid apparently.Out for a month or so. -
Another Hancock at Peterborough moment for Lynch. Useless team manager.
-
Absolute shambles already. What is the point of clubs naming a 1-7. Might as well pick 14 random riders a couple of days before each meeting.
-
Tatum the better speedway rider by quite a distance.

Who Were The Better Team Belle Vue Or Cradley Heath.?
frigbo replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Years Gone By
Agreed, the only top-flight seasons I've really enjoyed since 1984 were those with one big league. -
Well according to an article in an old Speedway Star he did.
-
Had a brother called Peter who also rode.
-
Dreadful team. Lebedevs won't be around much and no top end strength. Another one to go in the bottom-end mix with Somerset and Swindon.

The 'other' Finn ride for Eastbourne in '83, not Poole. -

Yes, he rode two matches without scoring a point - one of which was Swindon away and the other Leicester at home. Claes Jensen rode for Poole in 1981 and scored one gifted point from his meetings. Jesper B probably the best -

Raba and Jerzy Trzeszkowski came over in 1978. Raba never scored a point in 5 meetings but did go on to be one of Poland's top riders in the 1980's and is a club legend at Opole. He rode in a World Team Cup Final and was second in the Polish Championship. http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/2409/leonard-raba http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/2869/jerzy-trzeszkowski 1976 did see an influx of really poor Poles: Kazimierz Adamczak - Newport, Exeter and Hull Grzegorz Szczepanik at Leicester Adam Olkiewicz at Halifax Eugeniusz Blaszak at Reading. Blaszak did slightly better than the others but got sent home after a shop-lifting offence! http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/141/kazimierz-adamczak http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/2603/grzegorz-szczepanik http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/2090/adam-olkiewicz http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/304/eugeniusz-blaszak -

They had Danes called Rene Christiansen and Finn Jensen in 1983 too - both did nothing, in fact Jensen never scored a point. Peter Schroeck also turned out for them that year. The Poles Jan Puk and Jozef Kafel were probably worst of the lot. -

Eastbourne 1983 was a dire side. Still finished above Swindon though!! The constrant stream of guff foreignersin the BL was one of my favourite things about speedway in the late 70's and 1980's. The top league just doesn't get the same level of unknown dross nowadays - the PL (in old money) has that nailed. -

Bowden seems to be the latest in a meagre line of successful, honest and professional business men who have shown enthusiasm and a will to improve speedway - unfortunately, one by one they fall by the wayside as the true magnitiude of the inherent self-interest and shambolic running of the sport grinds them down. Chapman is tub-thumping about how this is a new start. Comments like those expressed by Mike show it's still the same old story and self-destruction continues at a pace!
