As others have said the racing was better last night, still quite a few races from the gate, still quite a few strung out,but there was passing particularly on the 2nd bend from Smith, who was Berwicks best rider by far. Fair play to Workington, they only had the lead once all night and if your going to do that then the best time to do it is at the end of Ht15 and thanks to Lawson & Harrison, once they`d made the start that was pretty much that.Excellent night for Lawson, well backed up by Harrison and to a lesser extent Howarth who IMO was lucky to get a Ht9 win after clearly jumping at the start. As I said earlier Smith was excellent,Wethers & Bellego did their jobs,Bellegos score mightve been better had it not been for a blown engine at the tapes in Ht8.The form of Aspegren and once again Edberg must be a concern to the promotion. Yes the racing was better which is a plus, but another home defeat will see more supporters missing meetings as they are doing so already, and the attraction of fancy dress, better music etc wont bring them back. You think, gifted a 2nd place in Ht2 when Tabaka stopped, last in Ht6,yes a decent ride in Ht11 to keep Howarth behind him, then another last in Ht14,a Ht14 he should not of been in IMO as I think he shouldve been replaced by Barrett.

Ashworth could be out for a month, our season maybe all but over by then. On the face of things I agree, but from what to what I wouldnt know.We just need to get the riders out of the start.

What and Berwicks is,the loss of Bach might prove costly, though the form Tabaka has shown at Shielfield this season already could be a trump card.

Weatherwise, and its a great start to saturday, sunshine with virtually not a cloud in the sky.Forecast to stay that way to,hopefully there`ll be some good racing tonight with plenty there to see it.No doubt there`ll be more there tonight than there was last week as Workington normally bring over a fair few, plus the Comets will be looking at this meeting as a decent chance of an away win.

Aparently its so the rest of the country watching on Sky say "Gee those Berwick fans are great". Believe me if the meeting is of the standard of the racing we`ve had so far at Shielfield, theres no amount of fancy dress that will stop the critisism on here. The needle mightve got stuck but its all about the on track action that will determine if the meeting is a success or not. -

Giving Taffys normal get upon a Saturday, how would anyone tell the difference if he was in fancy dress or not. -
How true,as everyone knows Berwick upon Tweed is in England, and let us all be thankful for that.

Its a cheap shot right enough, and will pander to a certain section of the Berwick support, but come on Im sure you`ve been called far worse. As for the Mods getting involved,I think not, anyway after what you posted the other day in one of the Redcar threads about the alleged habits of one of their riders,Id have thought the less time the Mods spend looking at the PL section the better for you.

Excellent news, though this might upset one of our merry troop as they see poster advertising as outdated,my own opinion is something is better than nothing.Hopefully this will get that extra few along to Shielfield each and every Saturday night. -

Thats quite incredible, you have a fan who used to go to Berwick but now,for whatever reason goes to Glasgow, thats worrying is it not. They are not alone, another poster has been once and might not go back, some dont go atall. -
If its Cook & Dyer for Lawson & Mills it could get quite untidy for the home team.

So its down to me to bring the positivity back to the Berwick threads. We all agree that theres a problem with the on track product on a saturday night, modern bikes, material used, track prep have all been debated upon as to the reasons for such go and go racing. But I dont think theres any problem thats insurmountable, maybe our promotion needs someone from outside the club to take a fresh look at track prep,Doc Brigetts name was mentioned, maybe they can get advice from him. -

I agree with all of the above, but just one thing. You can have all the banners, face paintings, fancy dress outfits you want, the meeting will be judged by the racing on the track not whats happen around the periphery. -

To be honest Newcastle are taking points away from a few tracks this season. -

The reserves are an obvious weakness in the Sheffield line-up,and if Hall is on the sidelines for and length of time thats going to put even more pressure on them to produce.Young Knight is excatly that, young, maybe the move up to the PL has come a bit quick for the lad and winning races in the NL may do him more favours than running lasts in the PL. Koppe was in amongst things last night, fell in his first ride, but was leading Ht14 before falling going into turn three on the first lap,and bring down Hall. -

Your right, though this weeks two Sky meetings went from one extreme to the other, slick track at Lakeside, crap meeting, track at King Lynn the following night was reasonably good but then again meetings at Saddlebow Road are usually good, maybe that comes down to track prep. -

You think, the shape of the track has changed very little if atall since speedway returned to Shielfield,we`ve had some cracking meetings during that time,so IMO we can put the shape of the track idea to bed. The return of speedway to Shielfield happened roughly about the time the change came from uprights to lay-down engines, its certainly true that changes in engine make-ups and changes to silencers might very well have something to do with the lack of on track entertainment but just how much is up for debate,IMO not a significant amount. -

I described this as a must win for Berwick so from that point of view it was a successful night with the home team grabbing all the points. In truth Berwick made heavy weather of beating a Sheffield team that ran with virtually four riders, with Albin,Koppe and Knight passengers. Star of the night was Simon Stead who raced to a faultless, effortless maximum,he was backed up by Wells and to a lesser extent Haines and Hall, sadly Sheffield lost Hall to a nasty looking Ht14 crash to looks like an upper arm injury.Hopefully it isnt as bad a is being feared and he will be back soon. Very worrying to see so many empty spaces on the terraces last night, but in all honesty if you serve up that kind of entertainment on a track thats prepared like that then you certainly cant blame people for keeping their £13s in their pocked. From the gate racing all night with only two (count them) two passes all night after the second bend, excatly what Sky will make of a meeting like this when they turn up goodness only knows. Looking forward to next week,Workington turn up next week and have their go at finding a secong racing line round Shielfield, and with Edinburgh & Redcar not racing that night,if they turn up with Dyer & Cook as guests it could get very untidy for the home team.Question is how many will be there to see it giving theres a GP that night and the entertainment that that series is serving up.
