I'd have thought the big problem for him getting back into Speedway would be finding the money to kit himself out.

It's not cheap needing a couple of bikes and a van plus plenty of spares even if his old riding kit is still OK. Sponsors aren't going to be queuing up for him and even with some help it's a big ask for somebody who has had no income for years. It's not exactly a steady income at the best of times.

Personally I would think his rehabilitation would be better served by finding employment with a steady monthly income to get his personal life on track. If in 3 years or so he has saved enough to fund a return to racing that would be the time to take the risk.

I did mention this earlier in the topic, as you say it is not cheap to set oneself up in Speedway, and bearing in mind he allegedly tried to rob someone then i doubt he is exactly flush for funds, personally without backing I cannot see how he will fund any comeback.

He wants a ‘ JOB ‘……that pays !

Well, the best of luck with that ... as I said, he would be best advised to start with amateur racing, and use that to convince promoters that he still has his talent, and is willing to buckle down and be honest.

Speedway is dangerous as we all know. The ageing spectator demograph however might feel even more vulnerable knowing that only a mesh fence a few feet high separates them from Garrity. So long as they do not have anything valuable in their possession though, things should be fine. In defence of Garrity, he’s probably looking at Craig Cook and thinking he’s repeatedly let so many people down and continues to get offers to ride.

Nice to see your consistent. Can you not just let riders do their thing and entertain you instead of picking faculties in peoples personas. We have been blessed in the UK with some fine riders some who have have off track issues and went on to become main players on the world scene namingly Gary Havelock, Michael Lee and they were adored so if a rider doesnt have the perfect lifestyle it doesnt mean they cant turn it around and become the rider they are employed to be that fans love.

Big difference between having some issues with drugs off track and ROBBING THE ELDERLY in their own home at KNIFEPOINT.

Wasn't Malcolm Simmons imprisoned in the 1960s?

Funnily enough was just reading classic Speedway mag article by Malcolm Simmons where he tell you the story ,as a 17 year old he failed his driving test and he was that annoyed he never resat it. So he was driving without licence insurance and obviously stole tax disc from another vehicle, for which he got a six month jail sentence .Great article on his career, this article was in 2011 and his views on the future of the sport are almost spot on,Elite League in GB was no longer elite compared to other Countries riders .Riders giving engine tuners big money for nothing really(they just want to turn up and ride the bike)fancy vans.Promoters mainly fans with money from their business.Amongst other things He anticipated when TV money runs out the sport is in trouble and will probably have go back to Amateur status. That was 2011 and he’s not far out.

ps

Many fans have had the same view since then.
