Likewise. I'm sure someone will put us right, but a "Dried Off" is a new one on me as well.

It sounds like the tanks under the centre green may have run dry... if that's the case it's difficult to imagine how they're going to prepare a track for Thursday?

Just when we thought the sport couldnโ€™t get any more embarrassing. Thursday could be in doubt as the forecast predicts that there will definitely be some weather, so perhaps best to call it off now.

It'll be interesting to find out exactly what's gone off here. The track prep in general, for the meetings I've seen so far this year, has left a lot to be desired, slick, dusty blue groves seem to be the order of the day because they refuse to put enough water on the tracks during meetings

Saw one at Rye House about 15 years ago [or rather couldn't see it because of the dust]

Edit: it was 4 May 2015 v Eastbourne (second half of a bank holiday double header)

The tanks and pond were empty and was just pulling up sludge and large stones from the bottom. It would have taken around 2-3 hours to fill the bowser with tap water but arrangements being made to fill the tanks overnight ready for track preparation for Thursday and may even get some rain on Mondayย

What the flip happened at Leicester this afternoon? Taken from updates:

"Meeting abandoned as all the water supply has been exhausted."

This is a new one, even for me after 50 years watching Speedway!

Doesn't bode well for Thursday.

Was my first visit to Leicester speedway today. Really impressed with the view all round the stadium, the friendliness off all the staff, love the golf buggy shuttling between car park and track.ย

Unfortunately the track was dusty most of the afternoon and having been watered after heats 4, 7 and 11 things were still dusty to the point where Ace Pjiper gave up his lead in heat 12 as he couldn't see where he was going and shut off. Bit more grading and half the track was watered before heat 13 (brilliant race by the way between Cairns, Scott & Harrison) and heat 14 was run in more clouds of dust before they called it a day because 'it would have taken too long to refill the bowser'. Not sure if this was because the water pressure was low (taps in bogs were a dribble after the meeting) or if the pressure was low because the bowser was being filled but it was a bit unsatisfactory despite the result having long been decided, another dose of heat 13 would have been nice.ย

That apart really enjoyed the afternoon out. Real shame the refreshments outlets were cash only as they missed out on my custom and most of those with me, card machines are surely a given a quarter of the way through the twenty first century.ย

Great little speedway venue. Will be back.

EDIT just seen @flagrag 's reply regarding water supply

A nice complimentary post. The Lions management should be grateful for such comments. I should add that any Lynn supporters attending on Thursday will be searched upon leaving the track to make sure that you are not taking any points back to Norfolk!

The long range weather forecast suggests that we could have a dry summer and possible drought. How will that be dealt with? If the club want to contact me I have solution which would also eliminate queues at the toilets!

ย

Perhaps it would be a good idea to use the track instead of the toilets. Would involve quite a bit of piss taking during the course of the meeting between fans

โ€ฆErโ€ฆ thatโ€™s kind of what I was implying ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ(keep up!). Not to be taken to the extreme though, we have enough problems with waterlogged tracks.

Its only a good view if you are stood at the fence (which you would have been today) as soon as there is semi decent crowd and layer of people around the fence, anyone behind struggles to see.
