I think it’s a gimmick and despite the spin from WBD/FIM it still isn’t being shown on mainstream channels only Apps.

The new knockout qualifying is obviously only about speed- i fear riders will be using “ special  engines “ will which only last qualifying/ sprint race Which is just plain daft.

From what I’ve seen so far this season the only 2 riders who I think could genuinely take the title race to zmarzlik are not in it, laguta and MJJ, hope I’m wrong and lambert, bewley can step up their game but they have been far from dominant so far in Poland

I don't agree with the sprint races & the fact that they offer extra points.  Now the qualification as I understand for the Semi finals is from 3rd to 10th with the top two straight to the final. I can't argue with the top two moving to the big race but I think it would be better for a last chance for the next 4. potentially a GP winner could finish on 6 points or even less to get the top points + the sprint race points. FIASCO!!!

Just to clarify how i understand Saturday qualifying will pan out. At 1 pm UK time all the riders will get 2-2 minute practice runs ( Fp 1 and 2) the riders will have been drawn into 8 groups of 2 ( pair 1-8).
in Q 1 each pair will take to the track for 1 minute and the fastest progresses to Q 2

Q2 is the same as Q 1 but only 4 pairs.

The 4 fastest will compete in the Sprint race for 4, 3, 2 and 1 point.

The draw for the GP will then take place with the winner of the sprint having 1st choice of starting number.

this all should be done in 90 mins.

Was thinking Kubera could be a challenger this season.

I think he will be competitive and more than capable of some rostrum places but not a genuine challenger to zmarzlik unless of course zmarzlik has a poor campaign which is unlikely, bartoz has that something else which other riders just don’t have, riders like lambert, holder, mickelson if they have a bad first 2 rides tend to go missing for rest of meeting, that doesn’t happen to zmarzlik but maybe the new format might help them

Agree regarding Zmarzlik, different class and nothing seems to  phase him and produces when it matters.Think Artum and Emil would have been genuine challengers and spoilers if had been allowed to compete.

From the Speedway GP website

  • At 2025 rounds in Landshut, Warsaw, Manchester (R4 Friday), Gorzow and Wroclaw, the riders who record the fastest lap time in their Q2 head-to-head advance to a four-rider sprint race.
  • The winner of the sprint race earns four Speedway GP World Championship points, with three for the rider in second, two for third and one for fourth place. The sprint race winner will also earn first choice of starting positions for the evening’s SGP event, with the second, third and fourth-placed riders next to select.
  • There will be no sprint races at the events in Prague, Manchester (R5  Saturday), Malilla, Riga and Vojens due to these four venues staging racing on Friday evening.
  • There will be no qualifying session ahead of Saturday's R5 in Manchester. For the other four, the Qualifying session will culminate in Q3, with all four riders taking to the track at the same time for 60 seconds, bidding to set the fastest lap time.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Hopefully this helps. Shuttle bus in operation from the town Facebook To the WWK FIM SPEEDWAY Grand Prix of Germany on 3. In May there will be a bus-shuttle connection again from the city center (Ländtor stop), via the station ( überlandbus stop 17) to the stadium in the Ellermühle. Two buses always take turns from 13 o'clock at half an hour. The return trip will be after the race (last ride 11:30 pm). The return fare is €3,00 per person (including children up to and from). 17 years are free).

Many thanks for the info, in early planning for next year (if still got a gp at landshut) will save renting a car at Munich Airport,  can transfer via train 😄

Can confirm that the GP qualifying and Sprint race in Landshut is on Discovery + Sport from 1pm till 2.30pm on Saturday 3rd May.

Does this mean as a TNT sports  subscriber through virgin media I now have to pay another £30 per month to discovery + if I want to watch the sprint and qualifying?? Or is it on the tnt red button?
