Sheffield v Birmingham 03/07/25

Recommended Posts

Has Luke Harison been snapped up by any PL team as a "Rising Star"? Assuming Leon is still not fit for Thursday's match, Luke could be the man. He scored 8+1 for KL yesterday, outscoring Lawson, Harris, Iversen, Kvech and Cook in the process.

Lynn are effectively rotating Harrison and Scott by tedeclaring between meetings as required so at thd moment yes he is declared in their side and isn't available

The answer may be different tomorrow depending on which way thd wind is blowing

Hopefully people don’t expect too much from Will Cairns it’s a massive step from NDL racing coming into the Premiership even if it’s only the one guest appearance.  He made competitive debut for Zielona Gora on Tuesday in U24 league and scored 0 from his 5 rides, so that should put things into a little perspective

The Q to answer is can Birmingham beat their 29 score from the first fixture? I expect a home win but by less! I can't decide which stream to watch either thjis one or the Leicester v KL one!

8 paid 9 for Cairns at Poole tonight

Cant read too much in to that....the only rider he beat was Hume and he only scored 3 points!

Hope he does well, but he's not a Joe Screen/Michael Lee......

And therein lies an issue with any UK kid that looks a modicum better than average...

I have seen him and Rushen described as potential superstars...

Let's see if they can beat average rising stars regularly first...

At 16, the very top riders in the world were beating heat leaders in their respective top divisions, so let's not pile pressure on these lads should they show some ability higher than most of their UK peer group...

Because, with all due respect, Dan Thompson apart, that group isn't the greatest standard, and Div 2 second string level will be an achievement for most of them....

he beat Hodder, Perry and Hume (how long as Hume been riding now?) as well as finishing ahead of Thomsen, his own team mate. In his first championship meeting its not a bad result...

I think young Mr Cairns is going to be a bit of a divisive character in Speedway, he's had the money thrown at him (kit & Hancock and all that) but has served his apprenticeship on the 250's and NDL, he seems a cocky/confident (take your pick) character, a bit in the Woffy mold without the effing and jeffing... did he have a little dig at Boughen? Or was it just a poor choice of words? At the moment he's backing his confidence up with performances (Audi estate in Poland excused).

Its not an entirely modern phenomena that riders who have strong financial backing are able to make stronger progress early on before the reality of league speedway sees the gap close back up. £8k 250cc engines (yes eight) will see good progress through the youth ranks in reasonable hands along with taking in the European meetings that are just out of reach of others.

Speedway promotions though aren't looking for the most talented rider they are looking for the fastest and often they can be quite different. I wish both Cairns and Rushen all the best but at present they are the better end of a much smaller pond, if they could achieve progress rates similar to Dan Thompson or Luke Harrison (both of who i rated higher age for age) they will have done very well.
