When it came to other away matches, Canterbury, Eastbourne, Ipswich and Peterborough. I never went to Rye House until the season that the rockets de-camped to Rye. Jack Millen was one of those up at the top with the likes of Brian Foote and the Kennet clan. Use to relish Dave Lanning turning up at the Weir and the accusations over methanol were legendary. Those were the days. Edited 13 hours ago by Hawk127 Spelling error
Chadster Posted yesterday at 07:50 PM Report Share Posted yesterday at 07:50 PM (edited) I can't remember 1937 world champion Jack Milne ever riding in Division 2. The only way I could see it working is if they talked Harry into fronting it a bit like Clarkson's farm and then got a tv deal with Amazon or Netflix off the back of it with £200-£500k of backing from the tv company so they could get a really good side together and also give the marketing a really big push.

Whilst I can't argue over time & distance you have provided. I will say that getting the fans of those clubs to travel is another task entirely. I have attended Oxford since their comeback & With Coventry, Swindon Lakeside, Rye House, Reading, Bristol, Newport & Somerset all within a sensible travel time few fans from these clubs are seen at Oxford. A great number of fans who closely follow the sport, and live just a few miles from their local track, don't bother attending regularly... There will be for sure, the "novelty value" initially, but, ultimately, when that wears off after a couple of meetings, it still will be UK Speedway you will be watching... And we all know how successfully delivered that is...

With respect a tv deal with Prime or Netflix I believe would have a negative impact on the sport it show it up for what it is a Disney tv show would be more fitting

Deane Wood works very hard on the track over these weekends, often starting the prep for the following day as soon as the meeting has finished, then back on it again from early morning. The 2 meetings are 11th-13th and 25th-27th. The only dates that may be unavailable for speedway in that month would be the Mondays immediately following those weekends. For protagonists and hard riders who could get a crowd going him an others were what made it tribal but fun. Yes those were the days for a different type of speedway entertainment with promoters who were also quite animated and outspoken. Today’s promoters are the woke of the sport and it is all the poorer for it.
