Can anyone explain why Birmingham preferred to keep Hagon over Edwards?

one assumes edwards decided against returning

If Birmingham announced that in their press release, no-one could blame them.

But they announced it was a mutual decision i.e Edwards wanted to leave, they wanted to keep Hagon.

Now Hagon had improved on his Leicester form, but still not the rider Edwards was.

Since then Edwards has done brilliantly against Birmingham & made them look even more daft!

Maybe his scores are logical, it's easier to get bigger scores riding against Birmingham than for them, due to the strength of the opposition.

Costs?

If Edwards has double the average then it won't be far off double the money surely?

Let's face it, Birmingham's season ended the moment it declared its team, so no point throwing any more money at it...

Tolley has spent enough flogging the dead horse and keeping Birmingham going, so whatever he doesnt spend between now and season end no one can surely begrudge...

A sensible summation I'd say. 👍🏼

If it is money then completely understandable no one in their right mind would throw money at the Birmingham team in their winding down season. It is a great shame for the fans, I always enjoyed my visits to Perry Barr when Poole were in the same league.

Couldn't make it last night, how was the second half event?

Not great, left after heat five due to the GF getting cold! a few bike failures and crashes (fell on their own not fighting for position) but they tried their best, when I left I believe Mildenhall were winning but I could stand corrected.

think it was more edwards not wanting to return to brum. he didnt want to be there anyway.

he would have knows ipswich needed an RS so for a selfish point of view why not want to go where a team will have more matches, a team that will pay on time and a team that can win gold, it was a no brainer for jason

Had Brum announced Hagon as an injury rep for Edwards, then when fit Edwards would have to had returned to the line up whether he wanted to or not, either that or ask to come off the Rising Star list!

As soon as he was fit, he then became an eligible RS as he wasn't in anyone's declared 1-7

Jason is a smashing lad and I wish him nothing but the best

An RS is on a standard deal, so Sam costs the same per point as Jason!

Well there was a big difference last night paid 13 for Edwards and 3 bagels for Hagon. Doesn't matter if they are on the same per point. It's all down to cost as he would have to pay Edwards more because he will score better than Hagon and can't see Hagon getting anywhere near the score Edwards got last night!

Wasn’t a factor

Are you inferring/saying that there was/is an issue with payment of wages not being made on time?

Lots of negative stuff you can say about Brum speedway, one of them isn’t paying riders.   Nigel has always ensured funds available for that.

Hi, does anyone have the results for the 2nd half meeting they wouldn’t mind sharing? Cant find them anywhere. Thank you

I've got them at home so will try and dig them out later.  Tried their best but a little chaotic, a couple improved significantly after a race or two and I think one was no longer shutting off going into corners by the end

Comfortable Mildenhall win on paper, primarily because Ipswich kept falling or blowing up.  The Mildenhall #1 was absent.

Had to feel sorry for Ipswich's Huthwaite:

- Flew out the tapes 1st then promptly blew a chain in 1st corner
- They announced they were holding his next race to give him time to fix but then went without him

- Looked to blow another chain before the 1st corner in his next race

I think Brum did right by Edwards - he returned from injury and was able to take some guest bookings, then he signed for Ipswich with the chance of extra meetings.  His reintroduction to the Brummies line-up wouldn't have made a significant difference to their fortunes.
