What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

Got no chance of lasting another decade regardless of structure to be honest.

Couldn't disagree more. There will always be Speedway, may become more amateur or more part time. Could be a series of individual meetings if a league cannot exist. May end up being electric bikes. No doubt changes need to be made, but don't see Speedway ending in this Country.

I've banged on about this before but it all started to go downhill after Penhall retired Hancock was the most successful USA speedway rider ever but Bruce was absolute box office and known by a lot of people outside of speedway and he had huge media appeal.

Just look at how good things used to be 80 thou at Wembley in 1981, crowd roaring and brilliant racing (lack of light accepted), if only somehow we could get back to these days.

For me, it was when England stopped dominating...

You could watch PC winning races for England in incredible fashion on regular Saturday afternoons, and the country was the best on the world...

A good news story...

Then the Yanks and the Danes were trained up by the UK, and took over, and much wider public interest was lost...

And then World Of Sport disappeared...

The domestic leagues backed onto the England teams success hugely at the time...

Then they started to import journeymen after journeymen, short term, instead of developing UK riders for the longer term team place requirements..

And, sadly, it has been a constant stream of "no plans, no vision, no strategy" other than "the next season will be like this, (hopefully)"...

Louis has failed to enter in to the spirit though and people are backing his right to do that.

Why shouldn't the championship teams do what suits them?

Because it won't end up being what suits them - it's not feasible to continue in that form if the rest fails

It's looking very much like no one will get what they want and everyone will be unhappy!

be aware as custodians of the sport you will be held to account if it disappears completely because you failed to act.

And what punishment will be heaped on the said accountable’s and by whom?

Maybe the current championship teams will resist that and if necessary form their own league under a different authority if required?

Yes indeed, and none of the riders who ride for those teams will be able to ride  speedway, grass track & long track on any other tracks anywhere in the world. Not sure the Aussies, Danes, Poles etc would like that ever mind Brits who ride abroad in speedway and similar.

We haven't got a new generation of fans coming through.

Well, we could have them executed by firing squad or force them on a dinner date with Rachel Reeves or force them to listen to Keir Starmer reading war and peace. It really depends on what the warring majority of speedway supporters wish to vote through at the next rally in Trafalgar Square during the lobbying of Parliament for free speedway admission for all benefit claimants.

That's the spirit - let's close down 5 clubs so that we're OK :icon_smile_clown:

Ah, the needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few? Was it Mr Spock who said that? A noble sacrifice, as I recall

My fear is the premier 5 are not going to let the championship be business as usual,?we have already seen a plan for 7premier and 6 championship with 1 team missing out, sadly I can see this mess ending badly for speedway

Where/who has that 'plan' come from?

Nothing wrong with Nora despite the lies the speedway control board tell you

Yes I went to the Mildenhall vs Peterborough Panthers meeting on October 25th this year. It was a Nora meeting, I liked the format, especially the the way the last 3 heats are run.

Quote from Jamie Swales in the Star

The AGM hold up is to do with the Premiership the championship will go ahead as planned

If it is decided that there will be one league then effectively the Premiership will come to us

How is that fair on riders?

If there is one big league, then contracts will need to be negotiated again.

I'm not sure why Championship clubs are signing riders when the rules are not set yet.

The rules are set...

Hence the Championship are planning for next season...

If the Premiership cannot come to the tapes then those clubs will need to put out teams together from riders who haven't yet got a team place, "if" the Championship let them in...

Sorry if the clubs go speedway in this country is all but dead.  Speedway will always be here is the road to ruin.

Same old bullrubbish nonsense, if the premiership teams dissappear from the sport the championship clubs won't last the decade.
