But, depending on how long Lawson's compassionate leave lasts, Ellis won't be usable next Friday due to the '8-day rule'!

He's replacing the #1, so it's OK:

011.4.2 Guest Rider (G)

b) a rider may ride as a guest (in an official meeting) at a track only once in an 8 day period (within that league) excluding Play Offs, unless he is replacing the home teams #1 or is ONLY declared in a British Development League Team

Big difference between a track which is usually excellent being poor now and again and a track which is usually poor being excellent now and again.

Yes but it does seem to get a lot of overly critical flack compared to other tracks. Maybe its because we make so many finals so get more than our fair share of tv coverage or more likely people who have a dislike of Poole and there are a lot, like to use it against us.

Ah yes. Good point. I'd forgotten that. Thanks.

Went along to this fully expecting an exciting meeting and the Bears to push the Pirates all the way, somewhat inexplicably neither materialised. I have never witnessed a meeting at the Ecco Arena without a pass in 15 heats after the second bend. For whatever reason it was gate and go and invariably the Pirates were sharper in that department. Congrats to the Pirates who seem to manage to do what is necessary when it counts the most. Sure the Bears will be determined to regroup for the KO Cup meetings.

I think its more likely because it just not a very good speedway track nowadays. Used to be very good but that was some time ago (20 years plus).

Poorest meeting I've seen there. Usually a good standard at Redcar.

It’s not better or worse than lot of others on the various meetings I’ve seen in Uk.  Their riders can cope with it that’s the difference IMO.

A bit like the AFA. I have been many brilliant meetings at both tracks. The world cup meeting at Poole was amazing. is it the material used or track prep or quality of rider I dont know. Bomber Harris may know as he has had some very poor meetings at Kings Lynn this year and at Poole. It was only 2018 which is not long ago that he pulled off an amazing last lap pass on Jason Doyle to get us to the final that year, he couldnt do that now.

Refreshing interview from Redcars manager tbh . No excuses , no blame . He did seem a bit peeved that he can't use the guest he wants on Sunday v Glasgow tho .

Is that because he wants to use an Oxford or Poole rider? Like Killeen or Kerr?

Very much like Lynn, but that is mainly due to the high clay content material which just doesnt suit modern speedway bikes. That said it very, very rarely has bumps and holes.

Perhaps a poor track gives Poole greater home advantage and home wins mean more bums on seats. Wouldn't be the first club to do that.

No holes or bumps at Lynn but in fairness Poole is not that bad in that regard these days, I am not sure bumps help the home riders much.

It gets the appropriate criticism because its a poorly prepared track, blue groove/ little to zero dirt, bumps and holes, simple.
