It’s not just rider availability. Track staff, first aiders, and other volunteers in stadiums also take holidays. If you don’t have enough of those around, you also can’t put on a meeting.

Back in the day, track staff would know they were needed every Friday, maybe plan holidays around away matches or world finals if they were very keen not to miss a match.

Nowadays, they may have other things to do on a Friday, but keep the calender clear on the rare occasions their club has a home match?

I can understand, not wanting to keep every Friday clear when clubs maybe race twice a month on average, that could go for fans too?

Even as a season ticket holder, I have missed meetings this season because racing has been so sporadic I just can’t justify keeping Fridays clear when there are so few meetings to go to.

The sign outside Ashfield says “every Friday March-October”.

This season, we’ve only had enough meetings for every second Friday, April-August.

Going into next season maybe the fixtures should be home one week and away the next, like football. That way at least you know your gonna see 2 meetings a month, and don't avoid foreign rounds of various Mickey mouse FIM meetings just draft a guest in, that way you still keep the 1 home meeting every 2 weeks

Given the cost of living nowadays two meetings per monthly salary is the maximum affordability for many I would suggest, therefore every fortnight should be the target, but if not possible, then still run just the two meetings per calendar month..

I do think though that they should always work around those "Mickey Mouse" FIM meetings, given, if alive today, Walt Disney might sue UK Speedway for copyright, given the amount of Mickey Mouse meetings they run...

Having had 1h/1a for so long I think they've probably killed any likelihood of a successful return of 2h/2a should it ever happen. Many fans have been driven away through lack of fixtures and lost interest over time. They've moved on and spend their time and cash elsewhere. A new audience is required to replace them and unfortunately thats not going to happen. Not all are affected, Poole seem to maintain good crowds but others like Scunthorpe really seem to be suffering.

Would love 2h/2a to return and for it to work again but have zero expectation it will be back.

As I understand it...Villads Nagel, Ben Basso, Andreas Lyager and another Dane who's name escapes me at the moment (I've got Mikkel Michelsens name in my head but fairly sure he'd be too high an average). Too many fixture clashes seemed to be the issue. NB I'm not a part of the club so I can't be 100% on who was or wasn't spoken to, those were the names I heard. 

I get the basic aim of the rule, but it does seem silly that no one thought about riders that retire or get badly hurt (sadly both aren't unheard of in speedway). Also a general lack of heat leader level riders wanting to ride in the UK doesn't help matters. 

Punishing Glasgow for Kyle retiring just before the signing deadline doesn't feel fair but speedway has a long history of strange decisions, so who knows what will happen?

Dan T guests for Kyle on Friday so it appears that all is good.
