I understand what you're saying but Speedway just for the sake of it isn't going to wash in the long run imo.

Most meetings over the past decade or so have become pretty much "Speedway for the sake of it"...

Given so many promoters fund a hobby plenty of what we have now is "Speedway for the sake of it"..

Hence, nothing is even considered to not be fit for purpose, therefore nothing radically changes and each season morphs into the last one..

Without these hobbyists though there wouldn't be Speedway, given there doesn't appear to be a long line of others to take over their tracks..

Just shut it down, and everyone can move on with their lives.

The GP's showed that there is still very much a market out there for Speedway,...

Around a million quid would have been taken in ticket sales...

The challenge is engaging many of those fans who attended the GP's to attend domestic Speedway regularly..

Me and my lad were stood with four Aces followers who, like us both, don't bother with the run of the mill league racing...

There are definitely enough followers out there to significantly improve its position if the sport can sort itself out and engage them..

I've been to the meeting s at Foxhall this season and haven't noticed any decline from last season.  In fact, the new TV screen has added to the experience and once they get interviews onto that for the crowd to hear it will be even better.  Some people just love to moan.

In the “long run” I’m hopeful that there becomes a sufficient number of professional promoters who get together to drive the sport as a business  profitably onwards and upwards.  That said, there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before that becomes reality.

The inclusion of JD would have exceeded the cost budget for riders. Might not be what you want to read, but at least you have a promotion with long term sustainability in mind.
A professional promotion not a hobbyist.

I'm not privey to any inside info but I thought Ipswich were profitable last year and backed by a wealthy sponsor ,given no Emil to fund this year I would have thought if they wanted Doyle back in theory if crowd numbers have held up and main sponsors are still there they could have afforded him without breaking the bank ? what am I missing ?

It was simply the delay in confirming what the league would kook like, and if Ipswich were going to be sold...

Chris Louis wouldn't countenance a five team league and Northampton was still in the "pending file"...

So Jason Doyle decided he needed to make some firm decisions for his season, and couldn't wait for  something that "may happen"..

Mayfield certainly look lke it is very much "business first" which can only be a positive thing for the sport..

As the more who view it as that should hopefully mean challenge and growth...

Jeopardy, Consequence, Integrity and Credibility...

All professional sports need those characteristics if they ever hope to be successful....

Thanks Mike but I was thinking more if he made himself available to come back now, why as others have suggested Ipswich didn't push to get him back given how much he's loved in Suffolk.

I’m better with a short run.
