Very interesting comments from Ben Barker on Pirates TV this evening:

"..with the riders now being told we've got no rider insurance by the BSPL, so we're not actually insured, to a certain extent, ...the rider insurance needs to be addressed immediately"

Ben has also posted on social media himself tonight reiterating this and saying he will most probably get fined for revealing this but it needs to be said.

Person sitting next to me said they had just seen Gary go to the ref’s phone in the pits when Klima was disqualified from heat 14. Only repeating what I was told.  Fair enough if it wasn’t him sorting out the refs mess.

For Poole Lawson unluckily to be disqualified imo but I only saw it live and it was done in a flash. Battled well  considering it was nasty. Newman did more than expected. Kerr was Kerr. Bowes improved as the meeting went on. Cook was excellent. Cairns battled all night, and Rushen found it tough as expected.

But thoughts must go to Tobias who  got the far worse of an extremely nasty crash. I won’t mention rumours of injuries and everything will be known very soon. But I will just say get well soon Tobias. Always popular at Wimborne Road. 

How could the ref not be aware who was in heat 9? Shouldn't the team manager declare any changes & if he didn't, shouldn't the referee pay attention to who's in the race?

“So we’re not actually insured to a certain extent” has to also mean that, to a certain extent, they are insured. 
Maybe a change of insurer or the level of cover, or who pays for what, but seems wrong to say they’re not insured

Did anyone have a better view of the 2 incidents last night?

looked to me in the first one that Toby would’ve been deemed the cause of the stoppage and therefore excluded, Richard looked to off been just ahead on the outside. Was surprised Richard was thrown out of the rerun. 
 

With the Cooper one I can see why Cooper was excluded. But again he did look ahead, but probably overly eager. 

Best wishes to Toby and hope to see him ride again this season.

This is a big failing of club streamers. Home fans go to the track to watch live while time and cost means away fans buy the stream. And add in neutrals who just tune in for a good meeting.

Which means a high proportion of the viewers don't want to hear endless moans about the exclusion of the rider in red or why the rider in white was 'lucky' to win the race.

Is it maybe a consequence of the abolishment of the asset system?

The riders wanted to be totally freelance/self employed, so maybe they need to cover their own insurance now? I dunno, just a thought.

This needs some clarification by the BSPL and SCB urgently, as opposed to the usual "ignore it and it'll go away" policy.

If riders are riding without proper insurance, then its a massive red flag for both promoters and riders

Go on to the bspa report from last night and there is a link to tonight's stream. It's gladiators live.com or something

But aren't the riders classed as self employed these days ? If so , it will be probably the riders responsibility to get insurance, the clubs don't directly employ the riders as their are no assets anymore, 

A bit like if you get a job done on your house, you don't get insurance for the person doing the job, you hope they have their own insurance to cover any possible issues
