Probably best not to post after a few beers watching the football.

Woffinden did it by bullying the likes of Danny King, Craig Cook and Ben Barker. He also had opportunities to win more and was even given home track advantage and still failed to do it. Smith was a better rider Saying Smith was a better rider is bonkers he was pretty dangerous on a bike and bang average, Havvy wasn't bad but won the world final on a terrible track and he was the only one that really fancied it that night, Collins, Loram, Screen, Morton all great racers but none have three world titles, Tatum wass a trapper but didn't have that extra 10% to get to the very top. Saying Smith is better than Woffy is like saying Jonhathon Grahn was better than Rickardson.

Saying Smith is better than Woffy is like saying Jonhathon Grahn was better than Rickardson. Wasn't Smith a Coventry rider when he won his three titles at Brandon? Collins and Morton were before my time. Havelock was good in 92, but as you say benefited from a wet track, Jonsson messing up his first ride, Ermolenko losing his head because of the delay and conditions, and Nielsen being injured and subsequently not getting to Wroclaw. Havelock deserved the title, but was also in the right place at the right time. Loram was probably the same. He was excellent in 99 and 2000, but helped by Rickardsson having two poor refereeing decisions go against him and Hamill being inconsistent. Loram and Havelock were both riders who were never likely to scale that peak again. Screen I would say was as talented as Tai and on his day was brilliant to watch, but was always handicapped by his poor gating and never got over the leg break he had in 2001. Tatum was a top rider, but tended to jump out of the way when someone showed him their back wheel. Also amuses me when he insists riders should just get on with it in wet conditions, when he was the first one putting his gear back in the van if he didn't fancy it. 1
Pinny
Will always be a controversial guy but can't fault his three world titles. I remember watching him get a maximum at Newport for Rye in his debut season and you just knew he was going to be good, he stagnated for a year or so at Wolves and looked a million miles away from being a world champion but fair play to him. He has the same amount of titles as Crump and Pedersen. Would you rate him as highly as them? Not for me. But for people to compare the likes of Andy Smith and Gary Havelock to him is a joke and shows how thick the poster must be.
arnieg
Never a great fan, but I was always impressed by his ability (in GPs, against the very best) to pick a line coming out of bend 2 and weave his way past his opponents on the back straight (like Lambert last night)

Granted hence why I said most successful british rider, Crump, Pederson, T Rick, Hans Nielson all a cut above Woffy.
