Poole get biggest crowd in Champ, so they will do whatever gets people through the door. Who has the best track in the Champ? Worky? And their crowds are low. So you can have good racing but unless the team is winning, people will not go!

But the population in say a 10 / 15 mile radius of Poole would probably equate to the population of Cumbria. Then all the money in the Poole surrounding area will mean more and bigger sponsorship. Where worky and say Berwick are in very rural areas so haven't got the big money sponsorships available.

But that cannot be the total answer, we get big crowds because when we win, the Fords are winners, they dont accept failure. It has happened throughout their history whichever league we were in. Their passion for the Poole team rubs off on everyone.

I do not think we would have had the success we have had without that winning mentality.

Workington may not have the fanbase Poole have and the population in the locality maybe smaller but you must also come to the conclusion if they were winning and at the other end of the table, more people would attend.

When you say the population of the Poole area is the same as Cumbria, you must be including your sheep as well right?

Also worth noting that Poole has many fans travelling a fair distance for meetings, hence why the recent closure of the A31 was an issue for some.

Poole is vastly larger than Workington, with a population difference of roughly 118,000 more people. While Workington is a modest industrial town of about 25,448 residents, Poole has a population of approximately 143,418 people, making it nearly 6 times larger.  thats without Bournemouth added

No surprise that Poole is such a popular place to live.

Why would you add on Bournemouth? That is a seperate town. Are you adding on any nearby towns to Workington?

I added Bournemouth as its 20 mins away, i think carlisle is the next biggest to Workington and is about 50 mins away,Poole has a bigger catchment area, im trying to point out theres more chance of a bigger crowd at Poole ie die hards than at Workington as you need more of the population to attend, just out of curiosity how many attend from Bournemouth?

The boundary of Bournemouth literally starts 5 miles away from the track so I think it should be pretty relevant, given there's another 200k people living there.

If you add the nearby towns to Workington which are further away, you'll be adding 8k (Cockermouth) 24k (Whitehaven) and 10k (Maryport) if you use the whole west coast of Cumbria.

I think it's nonsense that it's to suggest Workington have low crowds, crowds are what i'd expect given our catchment area tbh. There was less at Scunthorpe on Friday night than what Workington get.

Also success does not equal level of crowds either, you could argue there was less going to Derwent Park when we won the Championship treble in 2018.

If Workington get 800 one meeting and Poole get 2000 for example, there is about 1 in 172 people attending Speedway on the South Coast, and 1 in 83 attending in West Cumbria, and that's covering 4 towns.

The relevant point is if you were a winning team and not bottom of the table more people would attend.

Someone from Poole said the crowd was down due to the A31 road closure, so people must travel from further away than Bournemouth, I do know several people travel from the Southampton area, so should we count another 250k people to the running total 😄

I don’t think you’ve read my post at all there, quite clearly said that this isn’t the case.
As proved in 2018, we had a clean sweep, and the crowd levels still didn’t improve.

People generally go because they like speedway and it’s a family friendly afternoon out, the number of kids attending has drastically improved from the Derwent park days

I am sure crowd levels would improve with a successful team, most fans of any sport want their team to win, your saying they don't  care.

For a good many followers "they don't care" about how their team are performing..

They will still attend as the sport is pretty much down to its die hards in many places, and many of them will attend, primarily, to watch the racing...

You can't take it too seriously given the operating  model used, therefore, many of those who attend will return the next meeting regardless of result..

Poole are very much an outlier as their crowds do shift significantly depending on how the team are doing, (which is magnified more given the higher crowd level starting point)...

Hence the Ford's dropped down as they saw that the higher costs of tier one didn't guarantee a successful season, and an unsuccessful season, impacted their business. and, in tier one, that would be a much more expensive unsuccessful season...

Their business model is pretty much perfect for UK Speedway, keep winning and their crowds will remain strong, and plenty of tier one riders will be on show every time they race, but at tier two salaries...

They also seem to actually promote the sport well locally, which, again, is a bit of an outlier when compared to many clubs...
