Ipswich Witches 2027

There are several interesting podcasts, and media pieces, doing the rounds about the WSL and that since it's launch, in it's current guise when it took over the reigns from the FA in 2023, crowds have dropped from an average of 7,500 that season, to 5,300 (so far) this season..

The most worrying aspect being that any start up businesses should by now, three plus years in, be showing "rapid growth" if it wants to keep investors happy, and attract new ones as the initial "quick buck" investors leave, and not be losing over 20% of it's customers..

The reasons quoted? Amongst them..

A lack of tribalism with the events being more a social occasion than a major sporting occasion..

A disjointed fixture list meant planning to attend wasn't simple..

A lack of jeopardy as only certain teams can win the title due to their spend on their women's team. (One team has had a billionaire put in over £40m to ensure her "hobby" is successful, including paying a player a million a year)...

A lack of prestige and kudos in winning the competitions..

Too many changes to teams' players, as the larger clubs buy the better ones, meaning that fan affinity isn't built over a sufficient time to engage fans' loyalty, and there results in too far a disparity between top and bottom..

If they had added in "too many guest players" it could have been UK Speedway's operating model..🥴

Sounds like the premier League (men)

Really Dean? He’s on an 8.08 average. If you could have two of three between Doyle, Bewley, and Musielak to be your one and five, which two would you pick?

Doyle and musielak, I like Dan but rather he stayed at belle vue

It's not Artem.

If he was talking about Artem, he would have said top 3 in the world, not top 6.

What's the point of this Wroclaw agreement if you can't sign their best rider?

Mayfield disappoints.

Mayfield doesn’t disappoint, means we won’t have you at foxhall

Unless it's a combination of a hard no from him and difficulties with visas, I am amazed that no-one is pulling up trees to get Emil back in the UK, especially Ipswich.  Mayfield's MO is to improve the product in this country and Emil literally puts bum on seats where ever he goes in this country.

Emil has renewed his contract in Denmark. I think that rules him out not because of rule but because he is happy only doing Poland & one other league.

From what he said during his time at Ipswich about spending time with his family I really can’t see him doing Poland on a Sunday the Uk on a Monday/Thursday & Denmark on a Wednesday.

I’d have him back at Ipswich in a heartbeat.

Now that Tom has confirmed he is having double surgery this winter to remove metal work from both legs could this have played a part in Mayfields decision not to renew his contract. Concerns over fitness and all that.

No complaint from Tom as he wouldn't have a leg to stand on! boom boom Tish!🤣

Kim Nilsson is a name ive heard. We’ll see.

Fair play.

Only question now, is what assessed average he has. If he’s an assessed 6.00, that only leaves 3.65 for the last member of the top 5.

Joe Thompson on a 25% reduction looks the only viable option unless Nilsson is indeed on a 4.5..

Can't fault Mayfield at all this winter, They've done fantastically well on all fronts whether it's Team, Track or GP related.

If 2027 doesn't map out as planned then it isn't through a lack of effort because Mayfield have delivered on the hype.

Absolutely this. He comes across as a winner, as his “we’re not here to make up the numbers” comments as well as his recent one about him always challenging and winning things in four wheel sports so same applies here.

There were a few doubters asking the question “is he all talk” and wondering if he’d actually deliver, but he’s put those doubts to bed.

Been here less than a year and he’s now signed up two top class heatleaders for 2027, brought a GP to the club and is investing in revamping the track to improve the racing. Pretty good going.

If it doesn’t work out trophy wise in 2027, then you can safely bet that we will be challenging the following year(s).

Aint a here today gone tomorrow fella either, as he’s invested a multiple year rent in advance to have more stadium access to do the things he wants to do.

Kemp for me all day long @ No.2 with Nilsson @ No.4.

Leicester and Ipswich's Rumoured 1-7's look head and shoulders above everyone else on paper.

Kemp and Nilsson are both former Lions riders, So logic points towards those two being the best pair to compete with Leicester.

I don't think we'll have to worry about the usual when it comes to form around Belle Vue and Sheffield

The Tigers Spearhead is rumoured to feature 3 Riders who don't like Foxhall at all to a point where two of them are mentally beaten before Heat 1.

Belle Vue are rumoured to show loyalty by running Z. Cook and Blodorn as Heat Leaders with weak reserves and that's nothing to fear imo.

Coleman’s mustard…

I did say he was the best thing to happen to Ipswich for an awful long time. I wasn’t an admirer of the way Chris Louis handled the sale process last winter, but he deserves credit for leaving the club in good hands.

There were alternatives, and they would have seen him out quicker, but they weren’t the best options for Ipswich in the long run and Chris knew that.

So how come Nilsson would be a 4.50 rider then?

The rumoured Ipswich team top 5 is

Doyle,Bewley,King,Nilsson and Kemp,I’m surprised at Kemp because when I spoke with Richard Coleman he wasn’t that keen on Kemp due to him giving up a lot of the time.

Based on this assessed average chart from the latest published rule book (as long as they don't change it for 2027 season)

You work down from top to bottom and first tier he meets is the 4.50. 3rd league rider in poland and top tier Sweden

Not sure it is Kemp.

But I wouldn’t dismiss him just because of what Coleman said. When I spoke with him and I asked whether Bewley could be an option for next year because of the Wroclaw partnership, he completely dismissed the idea.

Never play poker with him.

Using the final Green Sheets - Issue 23, 6th October, I make the averages as follows:

Bewley (including reduction) - 8.56
King (including reduction) - 7.17
Doyle - 8.62
Cairns - 3.0
Nilsson 4.5

That totals 31.85.

If it’s 37, then that leaves 5.15 for the last rider.

Also, let’s not forget that Coleman in his interview with Radio Suffolk the other day stated that the 2027 number is 40!
