Ipswich Witches 2027

So is the only reason for the Wroclaw deal to get Bewley? I thought it was going to help get the u21 rider over to Ipswich, not just poach Cairns from BV as the u21 - if you go from the rumours and suggested teams in this thread.

You would have hoped the tie up would see Ipswich open the door to Polish riders who would therefore improve the quality of our top division. To see them take two ex Colts is disappointing and more a vindication of our development program (others take note). Once again it’s over promise and under deliver from another in a long line of here today gone tomorrow promoters skilled in talking the talk but lacking in positive actions. Self interested glory hunters, like we need more of them.

Just a small revision 🙂.

IF we’ve signed Cairns we haven’t “poached” him from anyone. He’s currently out of contract (unless he’s signed one for 2027).

It's the same response as Poole got for taking Rushen and Cairns and all the others who they've played no part in helping develop as soon as they become good enough.

He came from the colts into the Aces, its a shame for the Aces that he is probably leaving when he should be their RS next season

they chased the money, we couldnt compete, like i always say, we are probably the lowest payers in league but let ipswich fans tell you otherwise anyway.

good luck to them, end of the day you will always go to the highest bidder. it will just make the defeat of ipswich at NSS so much sweeter

A unique sport (in the UK), where everyone basically becomes "free agents" every year...

Meaning of course they then can freely seek out better terms elsewhere, or, to keep them, you have to at least match those better terms, which then adds to your budgeted costs, which may be unaffordable...

People talk about development of riders, but as they often have two teams on the go from an early age, (more if they are clearly going to be any good), then no one team can really say that they were responsible for any riders development...

And, of course, some will mention loyalty, however, in UK Speedway you could ride for every other team in your league over a season, therefore loyalty to any particular club would be a difficult concept to be seen as integral in UK Speedway...

Especially as you can lose your place in any team for doing "too well" if your new average allows your team to replace you with someone they see as being better at that figure ..

If Dan leaves the Aces, (he already has as the season has ended), then good luck to him...

The only loyalty I would suggest he has in Speedway is to the Polish teams that have paid the considerable amount for his rehab when he has suffered serious injury...

Even when the injuries happened elsewhere...

It would be good for the UK to have him riding over here given he can be so exciting to watch...

Why should he ffs? 😂 Riders aren’t objects that people own just like you or me aren’t owned by our employers we’re all free to work wherever we like. This ain’t 1940. The abolishment of “assets” was long overdue. Riders come and go all over the place and people need to understand that it’s all very short term, season to season.

So in your view, because he rode for the Colts, he should be forced to stay at Belle Vue again next year?

Every meeting could be a riders last and they’re in their right to go with whomever offers them the best deal. You, me and every Belle Vue fan would do exactly the same 🙄

but there is the problem with team sports, especially speedway no wonder the fan base of teams is dropping

Then no complaints about loyalty, teams loosing winning sides, guests riding for clubs that hamper their own clubs chances of play offs can be made going forward. They are all in it for themselves, bin of the league and just have individual competitions held at each club, lets see how long speedway lasts over here.

This may be a daft question…..

Why don’t clubs offer riders a multi year contract? Is there anything in the rule book which states that all rider contracts are for one season only?

I assume that it’s due to the fact that there is a points limit and the constant messing around with said limit.

If you give a rider a two or three year contract and their average increases significantly in the first season, then you have a problem particularly if it happens to more than one rider.

The only solution is to do away with the points limit which of course would create different challenges and radically change the structure of the sport.

Hasn't there got to be 2 under 21s? Meaning 1 could still be a Wroclaw under 21

The 3 U21 who raced for Wroclaw last year will come in on averages over 6.00 as they have achieved an average over 3.00 in the Ekstraliga. Therefore probably not worth it. The rest of the juniors are unproven and many are only 16/17 so massive risks.

More of a problem of the British Speedway management than Ipswich, 3.00 average is easier to achieve in Poland as they include bonus points. Maybe if both U21 riders' average did not count to the overall average Ipswich would be able to bring Wroclaw riders in.

wonder how long football would last it 50% of their teams changed every year.

There are several interesting podcasts, and media pieces, doing the rounds about the WSL and that since it's launch, in it's current guise when it took over the reigns from the FA in 2023, crowds have dropped from an average of 7,500 that season, to 5,300 (so far) this season..

The most worrying aspect being that any start up businesses should by now, three plus years in, be showing "rapid growth" if it wants to keep investors happy, and attract new ones as the initial "quick buck" investors leave, and not be losing over 20% of it's customers..

The reasons quoted? Amongst them..

A lack of tribalism with the events being more a social occasion than a major sporting occasion..

A disjointed fixture list meant planning to attend wasn't simple..

A lack of jeopardy as only certain teams can win the title due to their spend on their women's team. (One team has had a billionaire put in over £40m to ensure her "hobby" is successful, including paying a player a million a year)...

A lack of prestige and kudos in winning the competitions..

Too many changes to teams' players, as the larger clubs buy the better ones, meaning that fan affinity isn't built over a sufficient time to engage fans' loyalty, and there results in too far a disparity between top and bottom..

If they had added in "too many guest players" it could have been UK Speedway's operating model..🥴

Belle Vue fans in tears over the fact Bewley and Cairns might be leaving is comical

This is the same club that let Brennan go yes??

The word poaching is farcical as well …. Maybe riders want to better themselves and test themselves instead of riding a one dimensional flat out track week in week out

Bewley a few season back rode an amazing race at Foxhall from third to fast chasing and passing Emil … maybe he wants a new challenge…. Poaching is laughable

Belle Vue can always go for Musielek and Lawson and Brennan what’s the issue??

......... and the women's game is boring as feck.

Taken my daughter to a few at Old Trafford and it's bad.

Non-League / Premier League 2 games are of a way way way better standard.

Don’t pay yourself on the back too soon . Robert Lambert could be waiting in the wings to replace Dan . Don’t believe everything you read. Not a bad top two that. We’d take Tom off your hands as a number 2 also . He’d thrive at a proper racetrack.

I dont think any Aces fans are "in tears" given everyone knows how successful teams get broke up...

One Aces fan may be winding up a few fans of other teams with his comments, and I am sure they will know what they are doing...:D

(Seems to be getting bites too)..:D

They do get judged against the mans game, which is ludicrous given the difference in capability...

They are also not helped by the incessant media hype and coverage which tells everyone that it is great, and only sexists wouldn't see that....

An incredible amount of mainstream media coverage too, which doesn't reflect its size or stature, coverage UK Speedway would kill for..

As for the standard? My lad, when 16, (six years ago), and in a League One teams Academy played a one half friendly game against a Woman's Super League team and won the 45 mins 3-0...

And it could have been much more given the physical differential, and speed difference, between the two teams..
