500cc 309 Posted December 12, 2015 Does he still play as Goalminder for them? Thought he was a bit of a winkle years ago but he has changed a lot, and had good chat with him when he ran the New Inn. Very passionate Swindonian, wears his heart on his sleeve, and fantastic boss for his local club, where he has a superb record. Best manager of all-time for the Wiltshire club. May have tonight. Leading the Bracknell Bees 8-1 entering the third period, the Bees scored six in 3 and a half minutes, including 3 in 49 seconds to finish the match 8-8. No score in overtime. Tied on penalties, with the Wildcats eventually winning in sudden death penalties. Wildcats claim that GB netminder Stevie Lyle was stillin goal in the 3rd period, maybe it was Roscoe in disguise !!! orion 7,615 Posted December 12, 2015 Given that Belle Vue has signed two likely Team GB members, plus two fringe riders, as well as hosting the finals, it would make sense to get Chris Morton involved, if not as manager then at least in some advisory capacity. surely a joke ? Morton was the one worst team managerS in the history of sport ...surely you not forgotten that already .. Rosco is paid by Swindon to put best side out not to try out Brits etc ..
Tim Templeton 43 Posted December 12, 2015 I think it is unfair to suggest that Rosco has a conflict of interests between his roles as GB and Swindon. As the GB boss he has pretty much a free hand, and I think his choices have been well thought out with his limited options. The job was a poisoned chalice from the outset, with a lack of strength in depth, but he took it on regardless. Huge credit to him for that. With his Swindon hat on, he does not have a free hand. He has to be part of a group that has a different agenda, namely to put out a competitive team, within financial constraints, availability within the system, and perhaps differing opinions within as to the proposed make up of the team. How can anyone suggest that the thing Alun wants is not total success for Swindon. If the bulk are all Aussies to achieve that, then so be it. He has made the correct decisions for Swindon speedway.
Aces51 2,778 Posted December 12, 2015 I agree, two seperate roles. However, he should never have been chosen in the first place, Phil Morris was a far better candidate.
HenryW 1,178 Posted December 12, 2015 Is Mark Lemon continuing as the Belle Vue and Australia team manager? If so, it's interesting that Belle Vue have signed mostly Brits...Maybe Mark and Alun should swap club roles
GWC 495 Posted December 12, 2015 Poole never signed GB riders when Middlo was in charge so it's a predictable trend. Historical lack of junior speedway that produces riders that have ability and confidence to ride a 500 cc bike when they get to 15 and not spend years wobbling in the national league - BSPA take most of the blame as do many tracks. The volume of riders would also be greater and therefore more likely that some will break through quicker. Is it any surprise that Australia Denmark Poland and Sweden have more riders at 19/21 in the top 100 than the UK. We are seeing grass roots of training now so let's hope in the next 5 years we see positive results. Finally attitude is a major part of any riders make up and that sometimes seems to be a challenge for the GB boys.
spin king 1,923 Posted December 13, 2015 Agree with most about the two jobs completely different and the team he chooses for Swindon should not have any bearing on whether or not he should be allowed to continue being the National Team Manager. For me the jury is out on whether or not he is the right man for the job, he has made real mistakes while been the Team Manager.
June01 270 Posted December 13, 2015 Given the lack of assistance for the position we're lucky to even have anyone willing to give up their time and effort to fill it.
ColinMills 1,728 Posted December 13, 2015 being GB manager is a part time job, and 100% separate from his Swindon job
Humphrey Appleby 13,955 Posted December 13, 2015 Best manager of all-time for the Wiltshire club. That's not really the highest of endorsements...
KIRKYLANE 537 Posted December 13, 2015 I do not believe that Roscoe was not part of the team build for Swindon and therefore there is a link. It does send a signal out regards the make up of the Swindon team of which I am Sure Roscoe was part. Therefore the question is a legitimate one. We all have our own thoughts on the merits of Roscoe and his abilities of being the GB team manager
Robert Lee 128 Posted December 13, 2015 Swindon have now named their full team. 1 - 5 are all Australians which is Swindon's prerogative to choose and I have no problem with any of those riders, What signal does this send out and is it time for Roscoe to step down as GB team manager and let someone else come in ? And pass the poison chalice to whom? A virtually unpaid, totally unrewarding and unappreciated dead end "job"!Suitable willing candidates step forward..... Odds On 373 Posted December 13, 2015 how about a team manager with a bit of British passion about them, Screeny, Havvy or even Scott Nicholls, would rather have any of them than a team manager who comes across as being more important than the riders themselves.
GWC 495 Posted December 13, 2015 And pass the poison chalice to whom? A virtually unpaid, totally unrewarding and unappreciated dead end "job"! Suitable willing candidates step forward..... If that's the case then no wonder GB speedway has fallen so far behind the other nations. 12 Aussies against 6 GB riders in the Elite sums up the BSPA and their youth policy of the past 10 years but I guess the advantages that a country like Denmark have had via government funding for development puts a Different spin on it. Yea Havvy and Screeny one brain cell between them and don't forget the British passion Scott Nicholls shows by not riding for them .
