Do you miss the great occasion that was Cardiff ?
Hackett replied to Phannan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Cardiff was more about the atmosphere around the City before the meeting and won’t be captured again. The opportunity to see riders from the SGP circuit in thew City and for my kids to get photos and merch etc ... Plus once Ian Jordan rinsed Eastbourne and forced it to close it was the easiest opportunity for my family to see Speedway. The novelty however started to wear off, the hotel prices were extortionate and logistically we changed our plans over the years as my children got older. Go Fri night and make a weekend of it. Then go early Sat AM and return on Sun and for the last Cardiff into Wales Sat AM and driveback after the meeting. Cardiff could never match the NSS for quality of the racing watching British Finals and SON live in Manchester was immense but Cardiff had its own appeal and the gathering of speedway fans all over the country in one place was always a highlight. The tickets were excellent value for money and no fear of a rain off , although on a couple of occasions the track was so poor you could imagine the riders considering not racing due to the state of the track. All in all it was a great occasion but it was like watchimg MK Dons in the final years - "Your grounds to big for you ...." -
Would be no surprise if more Polish teams do the same or the PZM look to stop heatleaders riding elsewhere in Europe.

You could hire out Freight Island from midday to 5pm both days relatively cheaply i would guess, the people attending would be drinking and eating so the various franchises would be taking more or less the same amount over the counter as any other friday or saturday. Have the rider draw there, a few bands/DJ's plus a few sideshows and competitions for the fans. It's a winner for me. The idea of putting the GP on screens around the city, if it's not being done then that should be one of the first questions for the organisers. -
As I understand the rules Workington will get a "facility" for Cook for 28 days, after that, it's a "75% guest" only.

The White Knight started following Do you miss the great occasion that used to be Wembley.

JJ has a decent record at Shielfield so wish him well.Reid obviously shouldn’t rush things with that type of injury if not fully recovered.
-
Because teans staging open meetings usually invite their own riders. You'd be a bit peed off if the club you rode for staged an open meeting and didn;t invite you!

Someone will need to ask him.Only he knows.

So is cookie done for the season?

Neila replied to Aries's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
In the 70's I did not go to the cubs/scouts due to Friday nite being worky speedway night, if it was today I would be able to go both and only miss a couple of scout nites 😜 -

Was excellent, also really enjoying the Sportbike class.

Try finding someone though.

No doubt this would've been on, in the 80s, but not these days. "Can you come to play badminton/marbles/tiddlywinks this week?" "What night?" "Thursday." "Oh OK yeah, i used to have speedway that night but it's rarely on these days so I might as well." -

Another very noisy and heavy thunderstorm around 4-5pm for an hour, and then heavy rain for about 10 mins around 6pm. More black clouds over Foxhall at 7:40 - although I’m a couple of miles east and the sun is shining. Ipswich fans will be delighted that it’s off, because they’re desperate for a chance to see the Holder Bros flying on a slick dry Foxhall, instead of their usual pootling around on a damp and grippy field. -

It was definitely one of the highlights of many a speedway fan’s year. British finals were superb. I used to cheer for KC and Neil Evitts if he was competing. As for the England v USA test matches . Superb racing in carnival atmospheres . Really enjoyed those too.
