  4. Makes me wonder if the Bates Boys ever intended to depart from Speedway. Was it all a charade for drawing in some extra investment?
  5. Surely all seven should have ambitions of being a heat leader in the Championship? If not, I would suggest they're in the wrong job.

Agreed I was late teens when Benn, Watson, Eubank, Collins, Hameed, Tyson and Holyfield were starting to all come on the scene the late 80's - late 90's were brilliant years early Tyson easily the best heavyweight I have ever scene and Benn snr was my all time fave he had some incredible wars over the years. One of my all time fave quotes "lets have some parliamentary procedure"

  9. 4 Championship No1s isn't it plus 2 heat leaders and the RS will be a Championship 2nd string Yet a significant section of posters continue to state that without the GP stars there will be little difference between the leagues.....

  13. His stats as a "number 1" make quite interesting reading. Of the 34 matches that Leicester rode last season Dougy didn't appear in any heat 13's but did appear in 19 heat 15's. If it was at home he generally won it or came 2nd to his team mate, if it was away he struggled. 1 a 0 a 3 h 3 h 3 h 1 a 0 a 2+1 h 0 a 3 h 3 h 3 h 1 a 0 a 3 h 0 h 1 a 2+1 h 0 a Not and "out and out number 1" for me
  14. Obviously found a visa last season with no issues. With no disrespect i imagine a Honda Cub would be enough to get you on the podium of the Seychellois national championship.
  15. But Cluff shouldn't be on a 3.00 he is an actual Aussie and therefore shouldn't have been allowed to drop below 4.00. Whilst nothing against the rider but the idea is surely to incentivise the signing of British riders over imports?

  17. Hausl rode for Landshut in the Polish National League last season. So based on published rules is a cat 5 rider => 4 pt av in PL, 5 pt average in CL PS to qualify as a commonwealth rider wouldn't he still need a visa? And to get a visa wouldn't he have to finish in the top 3/4 of the Seychellois national championship.
  18. It has never really bothered me who wins a s/way match as long as it is a close scoreline plus decent racing ,winning the league seems to have very little relevance on the attendance figures . Star riders have a limited appeal in getting punters through the gate ,it's the whole package that matters and the blind love of the sport demonstated by the vast majority of fans . I can't understand the criticism of CL in any shape or form he has been wonderful servant to the sport ( I am certain it has not made him any wealthier ) and has decided he has had enough .

  21. What average would Pedersen & Hausl start on? I'll assume Pedersen has experience in his homeland & has ridden in the top Danish league & the Polish U24. Hausl is only in Germany but has a Seychelles passport so like Aussies Kiwis & SA riders is from the Commonwealth.
  22. I am a Leicester fan and I never want to see quitter Kemp or sniffer Morris in a Lions race jacket again, they've both let the club down badly in the past!
  23. Probably quite a lot to start off with. New or returning clubs always seem to have a honeymoon period in the first year or so.

  25. Just thinking any Prem club interested in Riss would be best to wait till his Champ season starts, then sign him a few weeks into the season. Current Prem ave is 6.46, but Champ converted would be 4.75. Of course that could change a little, once he rides in the Champ. To a lesser extent Pickering would be 7.76 in the Prem, but 6.14 on a Champ converted ave. This is why I dislike the current system, as it almost encourages manipulation, as it's legal.
  26. all look capable in those averages. If I was a Leicester fan, would be happy with that team. Especially if Gilkes was RS, as someone else mentioned.
  27. 2027 surely will be one league and an "NDL" or equivalent. The "PL 5" in 2026 will struggle to avoid making heavy losses, (even if 5 come to the tapes) with an inferior standard of product which will not be attactive to their established fan base. Still hamstrung by Monday and Thursday operations, and with upward pressure on budgets due to lack of TV sponsorship, don't see any reduction in PL admission fees. Will all 5 come to the tapes in 2027? If one more club falls the PL will fall in 2027. The big guns have all departed to Europe in 2026 and I don't see them returning. As has been pointed out riders can operate across mainland Europe and Scandinavia with just one set of equipment mechanics and transport, avoiding duplicating eqipment and avoiding costly and time wasting air travel to UK. The current CL will form the one league, but not without challenges in 2027. UK based riders faced with only one league to earn money will either choose to retire , go semi professional, or race overseas. There might just be enough riders willing to race in one league and sustain the curent number of CL teams with no doubling up opportunities. Meanwhile we will see a whole raft of old chestnuts of defunct tracks and new tracks being touted as being the saviours of UK speedway. None seem attractive business investments.
