  2. It's not necessarily that it no longer appeals - I lost touch with it as soon as it disappeared from BBC as it was something to watch in the school holidays and the sunday league game. Now I couldn't tell you who any of the players are or where to watch it and all this choice for TV I think has played a part in its downfall.
  3. This is all good stuff and basically correct re riders/skill & availability. However, trying to make one league with sufficient number of teams to race over six nights simply won’t work on a number of levels the most notable being a disparity in skill level unquestionably creating an unacceptable level of dangerous racing - & frankly not particularly entertaining. To get nearer to what one Super League could look like, re run your model based on fixed race nights “as is” and there should be sufficient riders to have 8 teams competing which would include current GP level riders. With no doubling up, the remaining tracks could run semi-pro leagues and individual meetings to include riders from the Super League. But let’s be honest about this. Unfortunately the vast majority of the current promotions have too much self interest at the very root of their thinking which negates any possibility of significant change in the way UK speedway is structured. This unfortunately means we can have as many thoughts & Ideas on what would be best for the sport, but sadly they will remain just “thoughts & ideas.

The hundred is only there for the summer holidays before and after cricket lapses to its county tradition in front of the few committed followers. cricket was a huge summer sport which in its long form no longer appeals to today’s young. speedway has had to fight for its share of entertainment with people no longer rocking up week in week out. Times change and without blaming anyone it’s still here in a smaller way.
  7. I've always respected your views you make many valid points, there is an element of the above post that poses a stark real issue for me. We see so many times the level of cheating/manipulation that goes on to win a £350 trophy can you imagine just how bent it would get if they had a decent purse for winning the league? I've always said if genuine supporters knew what really went on they'd never go again, very sadly they appear to be finding out and staying away, I haven't been to a meeting for 2 seasons and in the preceding 4 seasons only Cardiff each year and Torun once. Disappointed to say the least.

  15. Il be there too, I think a Bewley and an out form Lambert still streaks past a much weaker Sweden, I see Latvia and Germany going through too. We are going to the SON2 aswell and wondered who will join Brennan. I'm sure we have a rider better than Mulford to take, he's not quite be at the races and over committed himself in my opinion.
  16. Looking at learning from the past mistakes I always find Lee Coleman's column in the Speedway Star thought provoking. He has lots of ideas, some of them would require a sustained long period of investment, which UK speedway is not in a position to deliver at the moment but other are almost cost free. If you implemented the cheaper ones then if crowds increased which attracted greater sponsorship then maybe the sport would be in a better position to commit to a long term investment strategy. We need someone with vision to help promote the sport and he would appear to make more sense that many of the so called experts.

  18. Money of course. The SCB charge an awful lot and you are forced to have their products (insurance/licences etc.) and these are not 'better' just more expensive.
  19. My memory of those meetings was on the way back from the morning meeting at Lynn being passed by rider cars/vans on the A134/1088 doing a little over the speed limit!
  20. With Lambert's dip in form it's no certainty that GB will get to the final - I'm hoping they do as we're travelling to support them Sat night!
  21. The shale seems to be very powdery so when wet it will be very slick - even slicker than normal which is saying something. Chris called it right, on these types of track the speed of the bike is the biggest factor in race wins because everyone rides them full throttle - now that might sound obvious but it's not always been that way. Looking at older races from yesteryear the tracks generally were much bumpier and the outside was for the bravest only as most riders would get into difficulty with the heavy shale. It's got too fast for its own good and the engine builders/tuners haven't helped. Nowadays if someone falls off because they 'took off' when hitting the grip near the fence, the solution, instead of riders avoiding that, is to slicken the track and make it easier to ride so it continues to be slicker and slicker.
  22. Whatever they do, the must have the plan to get more people into their tracks... By whatever means necessary... Big crowds means better atmosphere, and better atmosphere means better meetings (regardless of the actual racing quality), and delivers that virtuous circle of people wanting to attend again... And interests potential sponsors and media... Most races, regardless of whether GP or NDL riders are racing, are from the gate and strung out, and has been that way since I started watching in 1969... The difference being the size of the crowd maintains the atmosphere which then generates the repeat visits... Although, the caveat is it also must be allied to you having an emotional attachment to your team, which currently isn't the case given so many times "your team" are not really "your team".... Kurtz and Bewley are great to watch on a Monday, but, I would almost guarantee, many more would watch them on a Friday or Saturday... Which shows that those nights are key... The challenge therefore is to use those nights more.. The personnel on show may be different though than what many "die hards" would want to watch, but there isn't enough of them currently to justify continuing on the same pathway... Alternatively of course, they could just run the sport properly and make the sport credible with some decent reward and kudos for winning, and have an admiisson cost, and marketing strategy that brings people in.. And, therefore keep doing it on a Monday and a Thursday.. That though, so far, has proved somewhat elusive hasn't it?...

For me it needs a drastic race day shake up, much like The 100 has, it still mostly needs to be 4 riders over 4 laps on bikes with no brakes... but maybe 250cc? or even a combination of 500cc & 250cc. 15 heats over the course of nearly 2 hours just doesn't cut it in 2025 except for the few of us that still attend, there needs to be a mixture of race types, like you get if you go to a cycling meet, sprints, longer races... the guy on the silly bike thing 😂. What that would look like in Speedway? Handicap racing, devil take the hindmost, 1 lap dashes etc. all incorporated in a match generally made up of 4 riders, 4 laps, it needs variety and the riders need to be in full view of the public at all times, skulking back to the pits head down doesn't tend to work when you're in the entertainment business. 1 league, however many riders it takes in a team to make it viable, all committed to UK racing on race nights that suit the club/crowds. There's so much that could be done but of course it never will with the current crop in charge.
  24. After the match the Stal fans approached the team who took a microphone to speak to the fans who stayed. Vaculik took to the microphone but didn’t say anything productive and the fans replied with the following statement: We are losing two matches and now we have four matches for life. Look how many people came to the stadium today. And you, idiot, you are doing rubbish. How much do you idiot, earn, and what do you drive! - the yellow-blue fan did not dismise the words. - If, God forbid, we fall, you will run away like rats from a sinking ship - he continued to the team, which costs several million zlotys (its leaders even earn more than three million per season). Lebedevs took the microphone off Vaculik and responded: I wanted to end this season today. Not in this style. I wanted to enjoy the win in two matches. And to end this season and this slogan… “We save steel". But unfortunately... We have to get to work. Believe me, we give our whole heart on this track to make you happy and for this league to be with you. We have this hole, f*cked, but we can handle it
