How Many More Riders Are Getting To Get Injured Before It Even Starts

It seems to be a daily tally of riders that are coming to grief, not sure what the total is now, but it is not just the young riders that are getting bad injuries even before things start to kick off. Miklson Leicester, just seen that Barker may have a fractured collar bone.

It seems to be happening more and more each and every season, so what is the underlying problems is it the tracks, the bikes that are uncontroalable, or the speed that they ride now.

We should not be seeing this happen on a far to regular basis, how long before something really seasious happens, will they then start to take a look and see what is the factor that is causing these serious injuries. The way things have been going these last few weeks, there will be no riders left to make up the teams.

We get a thread like this every season. You could star the season in August and probably get a similar number of injuries.

Not sure it is worse than the start of any previous season over the past decade or so.Every year we seem to get a similar thread.Saw the wife and mum of a rider on the net a week ago asking riders to take it easy at the start of the season and get in the groove before going hell for leather.maybe there is something in that.How much practice do a lot of riders put in before they start in competitive meetings?Not a lot really because of the weather.I'd guess no matter when you start the season you'd get injuries from riders not top fit trying to give 100%,but if the season started later they would at least have more time to practice?And then we have new equipment that needs to get bedded in and the riders come to grips with it

with these new silencers i like everyone else will be baffled(no pun intended) if there isn't a dramatic reduction in crashes/injuries from the last 2 seasons. i suppose we will just have to wait a little longer befor we can tell though.

As the previous two posters have said, we get this every March/April with people saying, "we have more injuries than ever". We don't,its the same as usual.

 

As for Mikkelsen, freak incident where he rode into a crashed riders bike. You'll never stop that!

Thing is how much practice do the riders do before the season starts? For some their first heat of the season will be the 1st time they have lined up with another 3 riders, which in turn may be in the same situation. Fitness will have some bearing too, however much training can be done in the gym, there is no substitute for actually riding the bike.

The Bikes are a big part of the trouble.

Ben has a fractured bone in his hand , caused by his all or nothing style he tried a bit to hard lost control and went over the high side stuck his hand out as you do to save yourself and the damage was done . I've said for long enough that the bikes are to fast nowadays , its not always about the best rider now its who has the fastest bike that counts

Ben has a fractured bone in his hand , caused by his all or nothing style he tried a bit to hard lost control and went over the high side stuck his hand out as you do to save yourself and the damage was done . I've said for long enough that the bikes are to fast nowadays , its not always about the best rider now its who has the fastest bike that counts

............... and some of the Bikes are far too fast for the Tracks they are expected to race on.

I agree .... the bikes have got to be ridden all or nothing, and to complete a lap on sub standard track or shall we say challenging track becomes good luck at best.

In the Barker incident, the track at Berwick was spot on, but was drying out and probably have been watered about heat 12. By this time, most of the riders were slightly out of control if they went out to the fence on bend 3 to 4. As said Barkers 'Do or die style' meant he was going for it and lost it.

I still think that over the past 10 years the bikes have started to become more uncontrolable, there is no great stut down of speed when you close the trottle, so as with Barker you end up giving your do or die tactics and end up worse for wear, today adds another top rider to the list with Davy Watts out with a broken foot.

The old laydowns where far more contralable then the new uprights, they could be rode on tracks that where not having to be set up like a billiad table, as with the new bikes, don't think they would get around a track with plenty of dirt at the speeds that they achive now, so is it the bikes or the tracks that are at fault, or is it just the fault of the way modern riders seem to be unable to ride on anything other than slick flat tracks.

A blind man can see that the number of injuries has increased in the last 4 seasons.Just look at the amount of guests used by all clubs in all leagues in the track reviews in the Star,how many riders now go through a season without a spell on the sidelines.Just look at the top level of the GP,Hancock,Iversen,Woffinden,Holder,Ward,Kasprazak, and Sayfitudinov,all suffering serious injuries in the past few years,and these guys are the best.

Are there more injuries than ever or is it that with the more information available (forums, social media etc) we know about the injuries?

 

I personally don't blame the bikes or the tracks. The riders are going right to the edge and sometimes beyond the edge of their limits. The reason being if they don't the guy behind will........its points that keeps your team place and the riders are prepared to risk all for the rewards.
