GREAT Britain Young Lions’ management have taken the heart-breaking decision to withdraw Tom Brennan and Drew Kemp from this weekend’s World Under-21 Championship qualifier. The duo were due to race at German venue Gustrow on Saturday, and would have been amongst the favourites to reach the Final. But an e-mail from the German Federation on Monday evening stated there were no guarantees that riders and support teams travelling to the event would receive exemptions from having to self-isolate for a period of 10 days upon their arrival in the country. GB Youth boss Neil Vatcher said: “The lead up to this Qualifier has been very stressful as we have tried many different avenues of getting the riders to compete in this competition without having to self-isolate for 10 days once in Germany, as this is the current government regulation for citizens travelling from the UK to Germany. “It goes without saying that with their British commitments it absolutely was not possible for Tom and Drew to be able to do this. “Therefore, late on Monday night after consulting with the riders and their families, we unfortunately had to withdraw from this year's competition.”

Steve Shovlar 10,439 Posted June 10, 2021 It’s an absolute disgrace that two British riders chances are completely wrecked due to covid restrictions. The round should be moved to a country were all riders in the 16 can race. Alternatively both riders are seeded through automatically.

It's not the first time that riders have been unable to attend a qualifying meeting and I'm sure it won't be the last. I don't think there is any precedent of moving events or seeding riders/teams when this has happened in the past...but someone might be able to correct me if there has been. Steve Shovlar 10,439 Posted June 10, 2021 What you think would happen if Zmarzlik was leading the GP series by a few points and the final round was at Cardiff. But the U.K. govt said because of high covid numbers in Poland, Zmarzlik cannot enter the U.K. oh well, never mind. There’s no precedent for moving events and he will have to try again next year? This really is totally unfair and a disgrace!

This really is totally unfair and a disgrace! Well, in your scenario the GP would probably either be moved or not take place because every single rider in the field would have been in Poland recently and also unable to enter the UK Nothing was done when Artem Laguta was unable to attend the British GP because the UK Government wouldn't let him in the country. Also, about 10 years back there was a GP qualifying round which 8 riders were prevented from attending by Government restrictions. The round wasn't moved, the riders weren't seeded, they just lost their place. I'm not saying it's right, just that this is how things have been dealt with in the past, so it isn't a surprise that this is how they would be dealt with now. They could probably move the round to Poland so that everyone could attend and an event could be viably run, but then you'd just complain that everything is biased in favour of the Poles like you did with the GP series last year
