Sad news indeed. As a late 80s regular at the County Ground, it was obvious that Vaclav Verner was the club’s ultimate cult hero. He had a huge reputation among Falcons fans who had been privileged to see him race in the 70s. So when he joined again in the 90s, it had all the potential hallmarks of an old hero tarnishing his reputation. But he still had enough dare and flair to be able to shock and surprise old and young supporters alike. It was like an old rock hero coming back for a farewell tour and still having it. RIP2 points

And kinda baffles me the BSPA can't get the Prem League sponsored. "Your name included in league name description 'Whatever Pramiership League' with 14 riders + (potentially) 2 team managers + (potentially) 4 start girls wearing your logo, front and back on riders' suits / bibs, match programme, fence, centre and pit area advertising possibilities, with live TV coverage (approx) 20 times per season, also logos and name included in televised (potenial) Champs League meetings". Don't seem too bad a package to me...2 points

I can’t stop laughing - is this a wind up! I can’t believe anyone in Stars management really thinks this is good. Unbelievable as we travel back in time to 1970’s Don’t wish to be negative but this is absolute s h i t !!2 points

The fact they've listened to it and still put it out speaks volumes about how out of touch these people are. If you want to build atmosphere start by improving the presentation to give fans the impression that the sport is professional, slick and modern. Try allowing riders the freedom to react within reason to referees decisions and actions by other riders. Much of it was pantomime in the 70's but it certainly gets a reaction from the crowd. Fans love to see riders showing passion for their team and it certainly builds the atmosphere. Why is Nicki Pedersen such a draw card?2 points

I think you're asking why are Somerset having race bibs like Poole? If so, I can't answer that as it well and truly baffles me. Somerset has always been a professionally run club and I see this move as a complete oversight, missed opportunity and just simply unprofessional. We've got the World Champion turning up at the Oak Tree Arena racing in a mix and match. Imagine the selling point to sponsors that the sports world champion could carry your logo under the Somerset Speedway umbrella on all marketing, advertising, promotions, on BT sports, within the local community, social media and websites to name just a few. If you can't sell that you're in the wrong trade!2 points

Even better! I don't think you understand how business and marketing works. Forget the cost, as that will be recouped and more. With a professional image the chance for investment is massive - therefore out weighing the cost! I've seen it posted elsewhere that Swindon have a main title sponsor on the front of their suit and then 9 other team sponsors elsewhere on the suit. I wonder how many of those 10 would of invested if they had been told they would the size of a 50 pence piece to fit on a race jacket? None I expect. With an amateurish image the marketing oppertunities and chance for investment is a lot less.2 points

OMG. I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st. This has to be some kind of joke Surely. Stand Together in Sun and Rain, Really ? Whoever came up this should be shown the door rather quickly if this is their idea of marketing..... It is nothing short of embarrassing2 points

Available soon will be the Barry Thomas Story. Thommo started his career at Division 2 Canterbury before moving full time to Division 1 Hackney, and then had spells at Crayford, Rye House and finally ending his 20 year association with Hackney back at The Wick with his 20 year testimonial in 1989. More details on pre ordering this must book will be available soon. The book launch will be on Sunday 18th February at the Celebration of Speedway at Paradise Wildlife Park.1 point

This really does paint a very bad picture of the new Promoters, very much hope Main Man puts the clubs version on this forum, but surely there’s no way Birmingham would try and sign a Polish Rider1 point

I respect your view but as a example Nielsen / Lee were both never that great at the old Bellle Vue Hyde Rd but ( they could ride it well but PC and Mort would usually beat them at there best horses for courses comes to mind.?!!!!1 point

WOW!!! Just WOW!!! Form an orderly queue Kings Lynn fans and get there early for the first meeting... If this doesn't pack em in, then nothing will...! Can anyone beat this though? Surely there must be some on here who could even eclipse this stupendous effort.. WOW!!! (again)1 point

Like I've suggested before, offer up for example a Dstar racesuits and then if the individual rider wishes to upgrade their brand to a superior one they can pay the difference. Simples.1 point

Hold in each hand a cheap printed suit and a suit made by Maliniak, KW, WK etc. with all logos individually sewn on. It becomes obvious then why their suits are at a premium price. As with all things in life you get what you pay for.1 point

Perhaps not the best example. Didn't Jurica Pavlic do the same on his first visit to Lakeside. However, I do know what you mean. There are riders who just see tracks as there to be ridden, no matter the size, shape, or condition and those who take a look and are convinced they're not going to do well.1 point

Also the rides where he scored 7 0r 8 he had 5 or 6 rides. He certainly has a mental block about Monmore but he is a good gater so no reason why he shouldn't score well there.1 point

Rather than ability may be its a matter of attitude and application? It's a track he clearly dislikes so perhaps he lacks the desire to put in the hard work to master it?1 point

I can imagine 1 or 2 will while the rest of the crowd fall about laughing. Still it will provide entertainment during the long tractor grades To be serious the idea is good but the execution is abysmal in all respects. Not exactly get up and go music more like a dirge Words are carp is that really a Rock Choir, sounds more like Girl Guides.1 point

...as usual makes for interesting reading. An interview with Mick Handley who rode for my team, Oxford, for many years and a more than interesting interview with SRA Secretary Colin Gear who talks about Kenny Carter at length and the so called 'Sunday People' scandal as well as the drugs issue when Hans Nielsen was very supportive in an attempt to introduce drug testing to the sport. A great read!1 point

Easy answer to that, - bring back Second Halves. I'm sure there's many youngsters that would jump at the chance for on-track time, even though no pts money.1 point

I would like to thank all the track staff, they put the air fence up yesterday which was a massive job in the conditions. The track held up ok. Needs a week of good weather to harden the surface up. The guys helping yesterday were great, a lot of knowledge so they were telling me where there are small problems with the surface that appear during a meeting. The rakers are there week in week out and see things with the track that most don't see, so working with them will be good. Glyn.1 point

This is true. Most of the people who attended the meeting were pleased with the information supplied and with the way that the meeting was presented, and went home very optimistic about the forthcoming season.1 point

I loved it when riders were easy to recognise by their personal, rather than team coloured suits. Plus, when you have a guest, or introduce a new rider to the team after the start of the season, all that is needed is to hand him a race-jacket, and the team still looks like a team. Race jackets for me every time -- unless a major team sponsor makes the promotion an offer they can't refuse.1 point
-
A big yes to team race suits from me.I support the Belle vue aces with a passion and I like the club I support to look like a team.Just like any other team sport I can think of. Like most supporters of any team in any sport the teams colours and logo are a big part of sport.Seeing my team dressed in red white and black with a big ace of clubs on their chest gives me a buzz even before the 1st race begins.1 point

I'm a fan and don't find them annoying in the slightest. One of the best things ever to happen in team speedway. Matt Ford is just being his normal self, and only looking after himself.1 point
