Cheers - sadly having to move to the wilderness that is Norfolk. But no possibility that I'm putting any money into the pockets of that scumbag in the north West of the county.3 points

Exactly. Speedway has changed, to a large extent it has itself to blame for the small crowds and its no longer a sport where riders can just battle through wet conditions to get a meeting on and people have continued on to that. Too many times we have stood around watching the track being sorted after a downpour and then seem the riders either go through the motions or refuse to ride, meetings trying to be run in those conditions don't do anybody any good whatsoever. I believe it's treating today's speedway customer best by giving them as much notice as possible that a meeting won't be on, and as screamer says the riders will appreciate it too.3 points

I think its quite possible the GPs will be a step too far for Cookie, but after the effort he's put into BV, and British speedway in general He certainly deserves his crack at the big boys, wish we had more riders like him3 points

Ipswich riders moaning about track time and looked rusty... meeting all over by 9.10pm ... curfew at 10pm... but not a single Witch used this time to practice kerb crawling. Hopefully just the lack of dirt ... but track changes seem to be for the worse! Peterborough sorted it out.. . Off throttle going into corner and make sure you stay on kerb coming out. All the passes tonight were done this way... And all by the Panthers! Lakeside will love it....2 points

Not guilty m’lud! Came as a surprise to me. But a great choice. I reckon he’ll be motivated to do well. He’s currently brushing up on his Scottish/English/Polish/Danish/Swedish dictionary!2 points

We have not turned a wheel and some people are not happy. I think it is fair that the Redcar fans have a chance to see their team at a reduced price, because the match last season was not up to scratch. If home fans go every week i don't see a problem. It just seems fair that the Redcar who usually bring a few fans have the chance of the reduced price. But that only me. utt.2 points

Is that where Taps lives or is that bell end? Sorry that's a bit naughty but it followed so naturally, much like Panthers will tonight2 points

Please see an update below regarding th half price offer from last season's match against Redcar which will noot be valid tonight When Redcar Bears hit town on April 26, fans who hold entrance tickets from the meeting between the teams at the end of last season will be given admission for half price.Tigers co-promoter Damien Bates said: “There were suggestions the half price offer was for the opening night, but because the Redcar meeting was far from satisfactory at the end of last season we wanted to give the opportunity for their travelling fans to take advantage of it.“I don’t think anyone can argue with this decision, we believe it’s in the best interests of everyone2 points

Wayland Prison (Griston) I believe. Last time I was in the area, there were helicopters and police all over the village as some inmates had apparently escaped and were hiding in the village somewhere. May still be some vacancies there...2 points

Man City will create their own history and the club has class in abundance, anybody who is bitter towards them because of their money and doesn't appreciate the football they play needs to get a life. They aren't the only club with a rich owner. I don't think their supporters will be attacking the Liverpool bus next week either.2 points

In todays speedway star young mr sarjeant has a pop at the track last year saying it was never anygood and cant wait to see what reception he gets ,lets lift the roof with boos everytime he appears on track to show him what we tbought of him last season .2 points

This is exactly right and is the point many have been missing when commenting on the early call offs all around the country. The weather on the day is almost irrelevant to decision with so much damage done in last few weeks2 points
-
I don't think it was postponed just because there was a chance of rain,it probably had more to do with the amount of rain we had in the week leading up to the match.2 points

Steve's comparison of Manchester and Poole is very selective to say the least. Comparing Sandbanks to a council estate is not representative of the 2 areas. My sister lives just outside Bournemouth and they are a lot of extremely deprived areas in the centre of Bournemouth and parts of Poole. whereas my daughter lives in a place called Woodford on the edge of Manchester and there are some very expensive houses there where some of the professional footballers live. Also interestingly, Ivan Mauger lived in Woodford and Bramhall, very nice areas when he was riding for the Aces.2 points

I'll point out again that Jonsson had an official average when he came back to Lakeside but it was reduced by the BSPA because he was no longer as good a rider as when he got that average. Can you not see a precedent there that should be applied for reassessing riders who's form has improved or deteriorated during their absence? Governing bodies are supposed to be consistent in the application of their rules otherwise the system is unfair and lacks credibility.2 points

The post has been removed by either you or Admin, which means it's tasteless. You clearly don't know enough about Muslims in big cities if you think they all obey Islam. I'd say they are in the minority. If you dislike Islam then you disrespect Muslims who follow that religion. Although I'd say 100% of Muslims on BSF think your weather forecasting predictions are rubbish.2 points

What's happened to freedom of speech your democratic right ?. Thought it was just Scotland that has Sturgeons nanny state with her storm troopers kicking doors in if you say something she doesn't like. Looks like it's spreading.2 points

Watch from the under the home straight stand, it's by far the best place to watch from. The back straight is ok, and the stock car track on the back straight too, but the home straight is more sheltered from the wind. Avoid watching from the bends, and bring a chair. If you get there early enough you can walk through the pits before they start warming the bikes up. Enjoy! I think Peterborough will do better than some people think, Nicholls and Bacon like it at Arena and Danes have historically gone well there. The 3 riders we are bringing up from last year's National League team will find it tougher than the first meeting, but looking forward to cheering them on. Going to be great to see the Hammers in action as a team at home. Can't wait!1 point

The second meeting was just a few days later on Wednesday evening where another 16,000 turned up to see a Dirt Track meeting under floodlights. The promoter had taken on board some of the criticisms from the first meeting. This time all races were flying starts, the main handicap race was over 4 laps instead of 3,to give those riders starting last a chance to make their way through the crowd, and the racing was much more exciting than the first. It was felt that an average crowd of around 8,000 should be achievable once the novelty wore off. From a press report at the time a party of riders from Manchester were leaving on the 02.07 for Hamburg including brothers Arthur and Cyril.Wilcock,'Ginger' Lees,George Corney,Rex Kirby and Rex Trickett.I think all,as well as most riders that followed during the season came from the northern,English Dirt Track League and stayed for a few meetings.I guess they all had some practice on the new track before the first meeting.A couple of the german riders, Stölting for one,had a fall and ended up missing the first meeting due to injury from the session. It was also noted that a few of the german riders were known to motorcycle racing fans,so I guess they were racing at the trotting tracks like Farmsen in Hamburg In his first heat Lees broke his own track record and took it down to 76,6 and the German record was taken by Fritz Niss, knocking a second off of the previous record.Count Strachwitz once again showed he was no push over.In one of his heats he was leading the English riders,Cyril Wilcock and Jack Wood for quite a while until he injured his hand and was praised for his courage to even finish the race. The second meeting also saw the start of a 'Golden Helmet' competition for the german riders, which would be run as a series over the season, collecting points along the way to the title.5 points for a win......In the first final Fritz Niss won the 5pts beating Count Strachwitz, who it was said rode far too wide and made it easy for Niss The highlight was the main handicap final where 'Ginger' Lees was giving away seconds to his rivals.Morian Hansen and George Corney had 2 seconds,A.Jackson,A + O.Hansen(in the first meetings there were 4!!! Hansens riding, which caused a bit of confusion)received 4 seconds.Lees passed one after the other to finish 100m ahead of the next rider after 4 laps In the British press it was stated the track is extremely wide and the start line is just before the first bend,so the inside gate has a big advantage and the racing is boring, but from the german press reports this really doesn't seem to be the case. They are full of praise for the organisation and after the first not so great meeting, for the racing as well1 point

So you are quite happy for the promotion to pay out for airfares for both teams when given the appalling weather for the last few weeks all right minded people realise there is no hope of a decent meeting being staged. Remember this isn't any run of the mill meeting, this was the first of the season where they hopefully would pull in a few newbies and therefore want to put on a good show. Not only that it was also the meting when quite a few regular fans were going to judge the quality of the 2018 season and the way meetings would be run. Bridges had to be rebuilt with those fans and a late call off or prolonged display of tractor driving skills would simply alienate many of them, possibly forever. As I said, I'm no fan of early call offs, but given ALL the circumstances in this particular case, the right decision was made, both as regards fans and as a business. Later in the season and given better overall weather, I agree call offs should not be made until the day of the meeting.1 point

I didn’t remove my post. Am I anti muslim? Yes. But I am not a racist. I just don’t like islam. It demeans women. Its 100% not racist to dislike a religion. If you think it right that a woman has to walk behind a man, is not allowed on the floor of a mosque, is pushed into arranged marriages etc etc etc, then that’s your prerogative. I believe in equal rights. Islam does not grant that ideal. We are way off topic1 point

Difference was HTG that in those days mainly semi pro riders rode a full seasons calender every week, riding 80+ times a year, earning good money to back up their 'day job' earnings... Riders also didn't have several bikes and mechanics in several countries that required them to ask for (and receive) thousands per night in salaries.... Salaries that mean admission fees have risen hugely in advance of inflation since the 70's... An unustainable business model that no one seems to want to admit to, nor change...1 point

What a crap weekend it has been for speedway in the UK in general. Teams have missed out of potential good crowds over the Easter period1 point

Not true, Kildermand's average is below Holder's so Holder can come back until the new greensheets. Unless Poole's team average goes above 42.50 and Kildermand's average remains the same or goes down Holder can come back in at any point. There is no 28 day facility granted. Kildermand (although employed short term) is a full time Poole rider as per greensheets.1 point

I do hope I am realistic. Of course stadia need to used to the maximum, especially with the ending of the TV life support for the top division. However the existence of that funding at Rye House had only been in place for a couple of seasons since the Rockets' elevation. Any extra revenue should not be at the cost of the quality of the original product. Of course you could say that rules out stock car racing but as a regular at Coventry for stock cars in the distant past I can testify to how the two sports can co-exist, providing you know how. I hope the moto cross project works and that it doesn't impact on the speedway, but what if it does? We've lost Rye House to other motor sport before and we both know how tough it was to reverse that!1 point

The water table is currently very high which means that ground is already very waterlogged and only a small amount of rain will just sit on top and not drain away. It's about sensible risk management1 point

It shouldn't be rained off , I'm here at home 160 miles away from Wimborne Rd and i can say there's no reason to call this off.1 point
