  2. dan is making a name for himself in the sport don't use that as a negative and a reason to knock Workington comets have a go at the situation for genuine reasons by all means but don't turn success against the sport it is hard that we don't get meetings for weeks on end and then when we do we have riders in overseas meetings but be pleased we have a cumbrian prospect riding at the higher levels a good promotion could use that as publicity

  4. We can speculate every aspect of Glasgow's performances , but the truth is , we should be doing far better than 34 points away from the home . Before Redcar strengthened up , everyone was winning there , we scrambled a point . Our away performances in the Championshio Shield were acceptable , but in the league it's a different story . At home we look far from convincing too . The utter shambolic performance against Workington in the Shield followed by the unforgivable collapse against Edinburgh in the cup has left a lasting effect on attendances We have an underperforming top two who seemingly cant get their machinery to work properly , getting them to get through a meeting on competative engines seems to be a bridge too far . We have a fan masquerading as a team manager who has no tactical nous or the ability to lift the team when the going gets tough. We are constantly fed the party line , that team spirit is good and dont panic Mr Mannering , everything will be ok . Well the harsh reality is , we put together a strong looking side at the start of the season and so far it's blown qualification out of a Shield group it had complete control of . Blown a KO Cup tie it was running away with . And with the next home meeting against the all conquering Lakeside Hammers looming large , defeat in that will leave the play offs looking a very distant holy grail . But dont worry folks , everything will be fine .

  5. If he is it will be due to the fact he has broken an arm rather than because of some results based fickle knee jerk reaction others advocate......

  6. Not riding too well? Are you on about the same team who is undefeated at home and won their last away match at Kings Lynn?

  7. Are Poole fans really that fickle? One poor season and everyone stops going? Swindon didn’t win the league for 45 years but we’re still going. Stop sounding like a load of spoilt brats, and support your riders. Kurtz and Grajczonek will come good, even if you don’t win it this year.

  8. Yet more impressive scoring from Leon Flint, this time its 16pts in his sides 50-40 win at Belle Vue, I think I`m right in saying that in the next week or so Leon moves from reserve to be the No1 which is quite an achievement when you look at the riders in the Birmingham team who ride regularly in higher leagues.

  10. The Aces are massive underdogs in this one... If they can get anything out of it it will simply be down to the genius of Mark Lemon... Especially with the track being so incredibly consistently consistent... It's a real problem at the moment having both bends very similarly well prepared and the straights having no bumps.. The rivers Irwell and Mersey may also be at high tide around the time of the meeting but due to being so far away they will have absolutely no bearing on the track. This will obviously result in the home lads having almost no home advantage as they will be confused as to which one of the plethora of lines to take... Can only see one winner... (Sounds a bit like a Poole thread this)...

  11. It's a remarkable achievement that Dan seems able to ride well on tracks he hasn't seen before in countries he hasn't raced in before. Keep it up and the future really could be bright for GB.

  12. He was accused of having a dodgy silencer by fellow riders.Said it sounded strange in the pits when warming up Since then he had trouble. Not picked by Denmark for SWC etc.And as I mentioned it must have been more than just a personal clash with Stekkers as the situation remained pretty much the same when Secher had the job and now also with Hans

  15. Just thought I'd make a quick appearance back on here ha ha. I agree with you Dave the racing has been decent so far this season. I think the team is holding their own. Looking solid at home and been unlucky away from home on a few occasions. Remember we only won one away match last season which was at Peterborough largely thanks to reserve guest James Shanes. Just interested to know what the doubters thoughts are who predicted us to be wooden spoonists.Just thinking back to Arsonfire's comment at the start of the season that he would rather pay the petrol money and go to Redcar. Someone else also spouted up they would be happy to share the petrol with him. Can't remember who that was. Maybe they will be honest enough and remind me. A quick look at the league table shows the bears from Redcar struggling. Are you still a regular down there Arse and your mate? Boomerang as usual has been picking and choosing his meetings but still voicing his opinion over the pit fence. Hope this team which is full of triers can keep plugging away until the end of the season. Bye for now. Tin hat at the ready. Ha ha ha ha.

  16. I've got to be careful here as Garry is a good friend but he is such a good team manager. If you travel with him he will go through different scenarios that could crop up and is normally one step ahead of the opposing team manager.

  18. I don't agree that bad control is a bigger issue than track surfaces. Looking at the most recent meetings at all NL tracks on updates : Belle Vue 2 falls, no injuries, 15 heats. Birmingham 4 falls, no injuries, 15 heats. Buxton, 4 falls, no injuries, 15 heats. Coventry 3 falls, no injuries, 15 heats. Cradley no falls, no injuries, 15 heats. Eastbourne, 4 falls, no injuries, 15 heats. IOW, 3 falls, 1 injury, 15 heats. Mildenhall, 4 falls, no injuries, 15 heats. Plymouth, 8 falls, no injuries 15 heats. The one injury was Adam Roynon, - one of the best and most experienced riders - whose throttle stuck open. Plymouth's track surface was described as 'inconsistent'. And then we have Stoke. 13 falls, 3 injuries, 10 heats. Meeting abandoned due to the state of the track, following meeting cancelled a day before hand due to track issues. The above very much suggests to me that the issue here is not about poor throttle control at all, but a dangerous track surface in which all riders - and not just the young and inexperienced ones(I repeat, Ben Morley fell twice) - were unable to cope.

  21. The usual trotted out line that there are ‘plentiful riders from overseas’ who want a team spot here and there are plenty of riders in the NL who could make up team spots. firstly where are these plentiful riders then? Matt Ford has been turned down by many over the past 2 seasons and had to turn to journeymen to make do. Of those plentiful riders from overseas who apparently want to flock here quite a few of them are barely championship level. Most become and stay reserves for several seasons thus keeping the promising Brits out of a team place, but let’s skip over that for now. There aren’t plentiful overseas riders wanting to come over anymore, getting less as the seasons go on. The truth about the NL standard riders only a handful are really able to deal with a level above. If you watch NL racing (I do every week) you simply cannot say that just because a rider of NL has an average of 6 or over they can handle the next level. ill use 2 examples to demonstrate. Mitchell Davey has been a star at this level for a while now but always struggles at levels above. (I use his name with caution due to the serious injuries he received and as someone who was on the track and had to witness his struggle for life it is most definitely not meant in any way as a negative and I couldn’t be any more delighted to see he is now on the mend). Another is Kyle Hughes. A big name in the NL but has struggled at any other level. Then you have heat leaders like Jon Armstrong and Tony Atkin who are both riding for fun and in their late 40’s. So already this exhaustive list of 6 pointers is already growing thin. its fanciful at best to say there are enough riders of adequate quality to fill all team spots. And then when take out teams who have assets to call on to build a stronger team you are leaving some teams with having to pick up the dregs, great for the fans NOT! The facts you quote as I’ve demonstrated are clearly flawed.

  23. Danny Phillips come into the side on an average just over 2 pts ,the side around him we're going to be the match winners as the way the team started off. He is going into that heat alongside Gino Manzares on a 5.8 average and usually against the two opposite reserves generally on averages of 4 pts . So generally most speedway races I've seen the higher average finishes first ,so we're don't people get behind Danny Phillips and stop bleating he is trying and he will get better he was out last year 9 months so as a spectator I see him trying and that will do for me ps how many of these keyboard warriors rode a speedway bike. Good Night

  28. I agree. Not enough to list riders around Europe, they have to be known to have the desire to ride.Plus each of those 19 teams need riders of a decent strength in reserve in case they want to make a change or two throughout the season.Plus they have to be riders of a quality that enough fans will be ready to pay to watch.Plus I thought the plan was to then run on any day that the club thought was best for them,so putting them up against foreign competition, which will automatically narrow choice further.Pie in the sky stuff

  34. You'd have thought the power's that be would have learnt over the last 20 year's that a low points limit has never been good for any league. There will always be stronger and weaker teams whatever the limit, but as you say a higher starting figure always gives the weaker teams chance to improve, and the likes of Jake Knight and until recently Bowtell wouldn't be without a ride.

  36. as I said don't try to use success against the club who are struggling to survive use the negatives by all means they only have them selves to blame for the mistakes they have and are making but the good things use to try get more interested and hopefully move on

  37. The acid test for these young lads mopping up at reserve is moving up into the side proper with less easy meat. Brennan and Jenkins have done v well, no reason why kemp and flint shouldn't follow

  38. Best bit is of course they knew there would be meetings the Danes would miss through Danish League and in Palm Tofts case Championship meetings as well but they still went and signed him after Rose quit - I personally wouldn’t have touched him nothing against Palm Toft but he just made the whole thing worse he’s just going to miss too many meetings- for me one meeting missed is too many unless injured . We need our own 1-7 each meeting .

  41. Yes it is happening everywhere , there are so many restarts in national league it’s ridiculous, I’m not blaming the riders but the modern bike is so unforgiving , you put young riders on them who haven’t been brought up using throttle control and what do you expect, I could point to loads of tracks that were a lot worse than stoke, somerton park Newport, dreadful track ,Weymouth ist year has ruts a foot deep Carmarthen ist year was like sand but all were ridden ok, I had a conversation a few weeks ago with a top official and he was talking about a well publicised recent event in which the track/promotion was blamed but even the main rider involved who is a huge name in the sport said the modern bike just doesn’t work on rough surface so what chance does young riders have ? I’m not justifying the stoke track but riders riding bikes that they can’t control is a far bigger issue than stoke

  44. With respect Trees, asking fans who attend the press conferences is not the answer. Those fans are, like yourself, diehards who quite frankly would believe the moon was made of cheese if the Lynn management said so. They are not the people the management have to convince. It's the lapsed fans, those than only go occasionally, the ones who have never been. The diehards, are getting fewer as each season passes and unless something is done to stop the rot, in time they will have nothing to cling on to. If you are happy with that situation, fine but as I said I would hate to see the club die.

  45. Robin and Dale ask the fans at every press conference for questions, at every pre season meeting etc. I guess what you all want to know is how everything is done behind the scenes, how decisions are made, why decisions are made etc. It's easy to criticise, very easy on here when we don't have all the facts. I'm not sure that we are representative of all Stars fans though as the majority of those posting on here just don't go to Lynn, don't want to go, have got out of the habit, don't enjoy the sport anymore, or rather not enough, to go, I have a husband at home who feels the same. He first went as a kid and finished going in the naughties and that was it. Maybe some of you just need to concede that that is how you feel and enjoy your life without speedway? You will never feel the same about it again, it cannot fulfil you, the pressures of the current promoters annoy you so much that you have to wash your hands of it. Remember the good times eh..... when you loved speedway and it gave you the buzz it still gives lots of us......

  46. There's a noticeable difference in the attitudes from fans of different teams. Poole fans seem quick to criticise and want changes as soon as riders go through a bad patch or don't live up to their expectations. Kurtz was a hero, the new superstar and now he is going through a bad patch he is constantly criticised, Josh G is what he is, a good second string, possible third heat leader, he is having a difficult time and so must go, Szczepaniak is not far off his starting average but because he was expected to be far better, a ringer, he must go. At Belle Vue Cook had been going through a difficult time, the fans are loyal and supportive not calling for him to go and if this week is any guide, it seems he may be getting back to form. Drozdz has struggled, not achieving his starting average but again fans are not calling for his head, they can see he is giving 100% and like Cook,. he has had two impressive performance this week. Maybe, just maybe, riders respond better when fans and teams offer encouragement and show loyalty than when they must feel the insecurity of knowing that there is a sword hanging over them.

  47. Curious statement from Edinburgh management - Danny’s arm injury tonight considered to be a new injury which then allowed us to use injury r/r when he was clearly struggling from the start - have to kind of agree with this and say we were fortunate to be given this facility instead of just the reserves replacing - a little while until our next meeting but have to say Danny really needs to get fit and not ride until he is, it’s a big risk him pulling out mid mid meeting and not get injury r/r!!

  49. Don’t think Garys reputation has taken a dent. Did the right thing when a rider acts like a brat. You can’t tell your boss to eff off when taken out of a heat As for Allens dropped points, they were both self inflicted so it was frankly hilarious when he came out on the centre green to be interviewed. First of all he got a puncture by hitting the kick boards. Who put the bikes wheel on the kick boards? He did ! Secondly his chain came off causing him to fall. Whose fault is that? His or his mechanics! Should have checked the tension on the chain. No doubt that Somerset were worthy winners though.

  50. Surely now the time has come for the SCB to take action over the ongoing safety problems at Stoke. In the last 3 meetings, 3 riders have ended up in hospital. Last week James Chattin ended up in critical care with broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a damaged spleen (Thankfully now on the way to recovery). Tonight heat 1 took 4 attempts to run, and ended with just 1 finisher and one faller pushing over the line for 2nd place. The match was abandoned when 3 riders all fell on the second bend of heat 11. In between there were 13 fallers in 10 heats, and 3 riders withdrawn from the meeting with various injuries. Spectators were again covered in ridiculous clouds of dust from the first bend. It was also the fourth meeting of the season to have a second half MDL meeting planned....and the MDL riders are yet to race a meeting. Every single one postponed/abandoned by some sort of Stoke induced calamity. All this on a dry, fine night. Things have now gone beyond a joke. Riders and fans have long been inconvenienced by the dust, poor track, generator failures, air-fence deflations, electric failures, etc etc... but when rider safety is being so badly compromised with riders ending up in hospital on a regular basis, and multiple riders withdrawing injured every meeting, surely it's time for action.
