  1. Yes they are bitch but that tells you the bikes are at fault not the track the reality is we can’t make the tracks bigger so it’s the bikes that have to change, the riders and the tuners have dictated the engine direction because there is no controls in place, Warsaw ,Cardiff, horsens and gustrow are all small tracks and they seam to enjoy them, the problem is a lot of modern day riders learnt with the throttle only working one way, maybe it’s time to go back to speedway school, personally I preferred the tight technical tracks but I was riding engines that were fit for the purpose, i keep getting told it’s progress and engines have evolved, evolved into what ? Evolved into engines that need wide open spaces and no hint of rain, progress ???? We are going backwards

  2. The basic problem with running RR on a regular basis is losing another of your big hitters early in a match which generally stuffs you.

  3. so we sign a rider who starts at reserve on a 5,80 average and you think the promotion think we dont need a reserve id say starting with a string top 5 and a reserve with an avrage of 5.80 was quite an impressive move sadly Manzares has been poor

  5. I go every week that I can, so you can put me in the Lemming category if you want. I am intelligent enough to recognise and understand that speedway in this country and particularly this season is an absolute mess and that the administrators who run the sport (and I use those last words very loosely) really are shambolic and are potentially killing the sport in this country. As I say, I go to Foxhall most weeks for two reasons: 1. I enjoy it. 2. Most speedway clubs must be on a financial knife edge and I wouldn't expect the Witches to be excluded from that. If enough people stay away from Foxhall then ultimately it must become financially unviable for the promotion. I would rather pay my money in the hope that speedway continues at Foxhall for the foreseeable future rather than lose the club that my father first took me to watch in 1970 (at an extremely young age!)

  6. The number of people missing the point on this thread is staggering (although it shouldn't be on this forum).

  7. With the demise of the support the sport once enjoyed , we need to examine the reasons why the attraction is not there anymore. It was always thought and implemented that all teams were to be as equal as possible, where competition was uppermost in every supporter's mind. Once a team was originally selected they were usually there for the duration of the season when changes were few and far between. It created a bond within the team and also generated a connection with the fans. This use to be very important and encouraged fans to go each week. Most riders had fan clubs where an acknowledgement as he rode round to the start worked wonders for self esteem, both for the rider and the fans.. Going back to the title of the thread, No it is not against the rules of the league, to have many changes but it sure is against the reasons why the sport was so successful. Individuals like Matt Ford has twisted every rule in the book for the benefit of Poole speedway. Its not for me to judge him for the damage that has been done, but the reason it happened, and the same reason why it is still happening, is that BSPA, is made up with people who have always been wrap up in its own importance, rather than the sport in general...

  9. It's in the BSPA rulebook as a Supplementary Reg, All fans with an opinion not in line with the Promotion and who have an independent outlook, must be charged an additional entrance fee.

  12. This is a huge part of the problem. Just look at the situation with Friday night fixtures being removed. One promoter (and a MC member at that) seems happy to potentially force up to 3 clubs out of business just so he can have a better choice of guests.

  13. What can riders afford? The latest whizbang engine with double overhead flux capacitors? The latest twin jet carb The "right" coloured helmet, gloves, boots etc .... The latest coloured spokes and rims to match their new bike covers.. Is any of that really necessary?

  17. Me being a mear female when our sport was really popular 60s / 70s from what i can remember bigger leagues more variety of visiting teams and riders maybe an idea to put premiership and Championship clubs together once and for all and return to 13 heats leave national league as is hopefully capture the imagination again of the sport, when riders have bike problems they go back to basics maybe thats what speedway should do.

  19. This will sum up a lot of clubs seasons over the next month or two, dry warm weather and no speedway, then when meetings finally come around it will rain.

  21. You know what? I reckon the starter of this thread is starting to run scared. All this season he has been taking the P out of Poole’s average first half of the season. But in recent weeks the Poole team has started to show signs of good form. Topped off last week with an away win at Leicester. We are closing in on a playoff spot and the thread starter realises that Pirates are now a serious threat to the title. And his team’s form has plummeted with away defeat after away defeat. Harris coming onboard has perhaps given us a bit more. Not a lot by any means. But Swindon this season? Should I say it? Gl.....gl......gl.......

  24. So mechanical restrictions are the only way forward, as many have said on here. Bikes de-tuned massively by whatever means ( will last longer too ) carburation, sleeving, electronics. Even simple 350's with no tuning permitted. The customer rightly or wrongly does not want to see tapes to flag "racing" or is it chasing. Promoters must sell what customers, old and new want to see or they must close down the tracks. Changing the tracks is beyond our resources but changing the existing bikes is not.

  25. The BV Swindon clash produced some great entertainment as the meeting progressed especially when Max Fricke was on track , the leicester v Poole televised meeting was absolutely dreadful viewing IMO of course

  26. Proctor got a paid max for Workington and 7 for Sheffield, always thought Allen as an aussie would relish the Showground open spaces as Stewart appears to, Noodles did give his opinion way before the meeting and was in this case proved correct but whose to say if theres a next time he wouldn’t do much better,it appears he apologised to Panthers for his poor performance which suggests he was expecting better himself

  27. To have the Grandstand open fully requires eight qualified Stewards together with a Level 3 supervisor; as a consequence of the overall seating capacity of the stand. A further three stewards are required around the perimeter of the track. If that number are not available to us, we have to reduce the effective capacity of the stand to suit. We appreciate this may mean some fans cannot view from their preferred seat, for which we apologise, however there are seats available for all who wish to sit to watch the racing. Our appeal for fans willing to undergo training to join the stewarding team remains open.

  29. I'm head steward at Peterborough and we have to follow Peterborough council and EOES protocol. We have to have 1 qualified steward to every 250 people. It is not nice having to close both ends of the showground and we have been asking for volunteers all season who would be prepared to do a level 2 NVQ. I can only apologise for the current situation but my hands are tied.

  30. I DON'T speak to as many riders as I used to but in my recent experience it is virtually unanimous that the modern day speedway bike is a 'bitch' to ride on most British tracks, underlined that no one I know of doesn't relish racing at the NSS. Riders want to enjoy their racing and that certainly isn't possible at a high number of tracks in the UK.

  32. Hope i can get my point across with this post. Not that i am against it i watch every speedway meeting that is on TV as well as every meeting live at Belle vue. But has live league meetings being shown on tv changed our perception of what is a good speedway meeting. We are all now obsessed with passing if there is not lots of passing then it is a poor speedway meeting. But has speedway racing changed that much from when we had massive crowds and us fans on the BSF loved it i dont think that it has.Lots of other points have contributed to how things are today and a lot of them have nothing to do with British speedway promoters.. Remember the old comment from non speedway fans that first from the gate wins its boring it was being said when i first started watching the sport and still is today. So my point is that speedway is far more exciting if you are watching your own team because every race means something.(Its a team sport and with any team sport you want your team to win thats what it is all about for most fans.)We all love to see great racing more so if its a rider from your team doing the passing but a boring 5/1when i am watching Belle vue is not boring its more points towards a win or pulling back a meeting when you are behind so you get a buzz from it and enjoy the race,in a race like this the last thing(as an aces fan) i would want to see is a pass and my team lose points. If your team needs a 5/1 in the last race to win the meeting and gates 1st and 2nd you would be out of your seat willing them to stay there. But if i am watching a meeting on tv as a neutral i see it through the eyes of a non speedway fan the teams or the result mean nothing to me at all i am watching the meeting just to watch the speedway racing so a Boring 5/1 would have no meaning to me and would just be that and would be a bobins speedway race as would any race from the tapes. So before league racing was on tv every meeting we watched in most cases included our own team and was seen through the eyes of a fan who wanted his team to win and the above points made for a great speedway meeting, and is possibly why we remember speedway being better back in the day.But the other points watching more and more meeting as a neutral the meeting has to have lots and lots or passing and close racing for it to entertain us or its a poor meeting. Its the racing and not the result that matters to us i think the TV has given us lots of meetings to watch as a neutral and made us view speedway through different eyes. Hope i got my point across and not just wrote a load of twaddle. .

  34. Nice weather, closest team to go away too, with plenty of time on my hands I would have usually have gone to this meeting, (as like like previous years), but when we can sit at home with a beer and watch BV riding at the NSS afraid there's no contest......

  35. Nope, Shanes and Szzzzpaniak were dropped despite increasing their averages, whereas Kurtz and Grajczonek have decreased theirs but been retained.

  38. Some riders have the latest wizz bang engines, tuned by the best tuners, and they are not good enough to get the best out of them, only the top riders need the best stuff.

  39. I agree with you, but len got out because of a shrinking fan base and a stadium that needed major investment. Crowd wise, the sport is in a lot worse state than it was two years ago.

  40. That's no excuse ! Years ago when there was no social media we got far more news from our local paper than what we do now from the internet. For just a small amount of input from the club it would be so easy to post all information the fans want to know and the effort would be rewarded 100 times, but if the truth be known, they cant be bothered.... Probably, more organised then most , My calender has all the fixtures pencilled in, so was fully aware of the Stars schedule. but I had no knowledge of the teams, merely guesswork. As with other teams I was waiting news of a replacement for Kerr , but I should have known better what the outcome would be. So please don't try and justify KLS inadequacies, We are not asking for the world, just t be kept informed.... Is that expecting too much ????

  41. We could come with a million and one suggestions, non of them will really impact the sport enough to rescue it. The biggest change is mentality. The promoters need to see the greater good and start working as one. There is so much division between each club, there will never be progress whilst that is the case. Old habits die hard and too many promoters are still operating for their own good when it should be all about the fans and the sport as a whole. Sort that out, sort the stupid rules and make the sort simple again. Invest to make the tracks better and we have a foundation to start again with. That is the biggest requirement, but it won't happen imo, it's too far gone and too many people with too much to hide.

  42. So 8 home matches still to race. This might, of course, prove critical as every home match not concluded by 9th September will effectively count as 3 home points lost in this table. Surely rival promoters wouldn't stoop so low as to be awkward in arranging outstanding fixtures at Derwent Park in order to deprive the current leaders of these points, would they ?

  43. Sorry but if you are a fan you knew we were riding at Leicester tomorrow it’s on the fixture list for Christ sake and to be fair once Simon Lambert was announced it was pretty obvious what the team would be. To be honest did any Stars fan need to be told by social media that we was riding Leicester tomorrow and what the team would be, surely not.

  45. I started the thread suggesting a limit of two tactical changes. Otherwise come the end of the season a team could have seven completely different riders and can you really then say that that “team” won the league? The cut off date for changes has helped but why not just say “only two changes” from the start? Swindon (or Wolves or Belle Vue) could keep the same team, finish top of the league and then lose in the final to fourth placed Poole who have used 12 different riders. It’s like buying the title rather than working hard for it.

  47. I tell u what is P#####g me off lately..that they are closing off half the stand and cramming everyone in to one section.. uncomfortable on such a hot day and the third meeting running my family and friends can't even sit together..hope this can be sorted soon as it's annoying alot of people.

  48. I would change the present day for the 70s 80s any day, you might get the odd change but all in all it was the bulk of the team year after year, you would get that bond with the riders

  49. Except we are the paying supporters.

  50. All sorted for me. Within 15 mins of emailing the club the other night at 9.45pm, along with a photo of the three seats I was trying to reserve, I had an email back confirming they had reserved these seats for me and I simply have to turn up and pay for them on the day. Can you possibly imagine that level of service if the roles were reversed and a Pole was emailing a UK club?
