  1. I`m sure everyone watching on BT sport enjoyed that, and they better make the most of it as the next TV match in a fortnight`s time is from Poole !!!!!!!

  2. I watched Peter Collins, Chris Morton etc riding for Belle Vue in the 70s and 80s. I also attended Ellesmere Port during the same period. Despite being a lower standard, I never yearned to see the superstars when I watched the second division lads. I just loved speedway.

  3. Oh for crying out loud....at least a couple of people realised what was intended. I was on my phone at the time and it wouldn't let me put a smiley/emoji (or whatever they're called). It was a sarcastic/ironic/sardonic/satirical/derisive comment that was in no way meant to be taken seriously. In other words, a joke. Has everyone got that? I was not being serious. OK?

  4. So if your half a bike length up you can basically just shove the other rider into the fence because ' you are in front' Max Fricke is by no means a dirty rider but that move wasnt good .....the commentary team pretty much said the same He was half a bike length up and left Harris no room at all. Its not up to Harris to throttle off if he is only half a bike length down, he should have been able to ride up to the next corner in that straight line. I also cant understand how the race wasnt awarded either Could have cost us a point maybe Its all well and good saying that Bewley had a poor night and so did Wells , but on the plus side Worrall rode and scored really well. Also Ipswich reserves had a poor meeting to. Its all if buts and maybes. All i know is that if we can keep this up then i dont fear anyone over 2 legs

  5. Wonder how many people in Manchester even know about speedway at the NSS?

  6. Great debut from Cook. He will turn out to be a terrific signing for sure. Good team performance tonight. Heat 13 and 15 were great but without being negative those heats were the exception. From memory 11 heats were FTG without passes. Stop grading the track every 3-4 heats which basically means there's only one line around the inside.

  7. So if rider A crosses the finish line half a bikes length in front of rider B he was not in front at the time they crossed the line.

  8. Speedway gets many, many hours of advertising out of the BT deal.. That they choose not to highlight themselves as a 'popular place to visit' isn't BT's fault... Last night they should have ran with cheap tickets, filled the Grandstand, and had huge banners advertising various sponsors and the club website, twitter, fb page etc covering the empty back straight.. Or at the very least move all the Grandstand people together and covered the vacant seating with advertising banners like champions league football does with the first few rows.. When the SWC was at BV a few years ago we got 'upgraded' free of charge to the seating erected on bends three/four Why? Because this was the area that was going to get most covered on TV as it was directly in line with the camera covering the starts.. Unpurchased, empty seating would have made the event look 'unpopular'.. So much of advertising and marketing is about hype.. If it looks successful many 'sheep' will follow it and grow it's success.. And vice versa, the same is also true.. It it looks unpopular, it will stay unpopular unless something changes.. And 'build it and they will come' simply doesn't cut it anymore... The Aces have a huge asset in that circuit. They now need to get a marketing plan that actually does it justice..

  9. Agreed on Allerdale's ambition and i too want the stadium to go ahead. I'm not bleating about the shale or the boards per se, its the bigger picture of track demolition including the attempted break up of the slag sub base. Surely for this to happen someone somewhere must have decreed that speedway will never again take place at Derwent Park. I'm appealing for some openness and honesty from an official source about what the bigger picture is and where the Comets now fit into that.

  10. Fricke hadn’t passed Harris though. Passing is when Fricke back wheel is in front of Harris front wheel. But Fricke’s footrest (middle of his bike) went through the spokes of Harris front wheel. Fricke basically hoped Harris would back off but he didn’t. Fricke to blame and rightly excluded.

  11. It will be close, but then the tapes will go up for heat 1 and the gap will increase gradually. Will Tungate even be there you wont know until you get there . Bates at three oh dear.

  12. R/R for Hans means an easy home win. A decent guest might have got me out, but no chance now ...

  13. Harris had the option of throttling off, he didn't and the correct decision was made.

  14. We were a Craig Cook away from winning that,, if only he was available not so long ago. Good effort though,, heat 13 was always going to be the killer,,we done good though to give ourselves the chance.,,, the Harris and max crash should have been awarded as Berge was way back,,,

  16. Poole might have a couple of half decent riders in heats 13 and 15 it’s just the others that let them down. I thought we would have got thumped tonight so a great result I’d love Ipswich to sneak that last play off place behind Belle Vue , Peterborough and possibly Lynn now. Im sure if Poole get their track sorted they could avoid the wooden spoon

  17. What a fantastic race track you guys at Belle Vue have. The place should be packed every week.

  18. Don’t agree. If we had bigger hitters up top we wouldn’t have the strength in reserve or the solid look from top to bottom. We’ve beaten teams comfortably this year with our top scorer not even hitting double figures. The team is built so that every rider from 1-7 score half decent points, which totals up to winning meetings, and being competitive in others. Belle Vue are a good side, especially at home obviously, but if this was a play off final I’d fancy our chances of finishing this off at Foxhall.

  21. How many heats have we all witnessed where a rider falls and then, in the rerun, the rider that was tailed off suddenly pops out of the start and what was a nailed on 5-1 suddenly ends up as a 3-3? An example of this was last night when Ipswich were on a 4-2, then Fricke knocked off Harris. Berge was tailed off. In the rerun Berge got the drop and managed to get second place, turning what really should have been an Ipswich 5-1 into a 4-2. So why not stagger the start for the rerun? Riders go for the rerun in the position they were in when the heat was stopped. The leading rider starts from the tapes. The rider in second starts at 5 metres and the rider in third at ten metres. A rider might still come through from 3rd to first but would have done it fairly. It’s frustrating to see a rider who was nowhere in the first running pop out and win. Please feel free to agree or disagree. Easy to implement. Thoughts?

  22. If a stronger rider is available to replace Ashley Morris then we should do it. Nick Morris needs to start showing some form in the next couple of meetings, he's had a couple to ease back in, now time to start stepping up to the plate. Thorssell being top of the averages doesn't worry me. Whomever drops to No 3 will score big.

  24. Thank you for the figures, it still doesn't excuse the fact that no one from Allerdale has ever entertained any possible proposals from alternative sources to continue running speedway at DP? An offer to Laura Morgan wasn't taken up due to financial problems and there the matter ended, once speedway thru her was gone the bulldozers moved in and that was that? As has been explained above the Reds are now very sceptical about this stadium ever being built and their contribution to the work on a pitch elsewhere could see them forced into paying rent to play on it, short spell or not, it was not what they signed up for? Both want a new stadium but with talk's not producing very much at the moment as to whether anything will ever get the go ahead would that leave DP as the "shared venue" and Borough Park just levelled, use the funds to renovate one ground....is that going to be acceptable to the Reds and Town? Whichever way it pan's out the Speedway was never an option on any front and that's what is wrong with all of this, we could have accommodated all three sport's if we'd really wanted to.... certain individuals just didn't and that's the saddest part of it?

  27. They have improved tho the track has been consistent (which it hasn't been for years) racing wasn't great to start with but the last few meetings have been excellent , cook situation could have been better but tungate is a improvement on harris and he has improved the team with recent team changes

  29. In the same press release, Eastbourne said that their attendances have been 'excellent and well above target' with even the lowest being 'around break even'. I don't think you are wrong here, but it would be easy to paint a picture that is blacker than it actually is.

  30. I may be naïve but I don't believe anyone is out to shaft anyone. Allerdale need to be commended for their ambition and creativity in putting together a plan and a sensible looking funding package by utilising historically low interest rates, to replace 2 decrepit 'stadiums' which are not fit for purpose with a state of the art stadium which will raise the profile of the area and hopefully encourage further development. You never know (with SS's rose tinted glasses on) it maybe even encourage someone to come in to develop Northside at some stage, hopefully with some help from Allerdale who you would think would feel that they owe us a little something. As regards what is presently happening at DP, it is really for the rugby club to decide as it is their stadium so I don't see the point of bleating about the shale and fence boards being removed. Harsh I know, but what do you expect them to do? I just hope that the stadium plans go ahead and are not used as a political football and kicked into the long grass. The new facilities would give this part of West Cumbria a huge lift and benefit the community. It would then of course be up to the community to support it!

  31. Bit of a daft statement and not really one that correlates either Fricke was hard and went to far He was HALF a bike length up I think some Belle Vue fans dont understand what consitutes 'being in front and riding where you like' If you think its acceptable to be half a bike length up and ride into the side of someone and put them into the fence.....while the other person just keeps his line ... then i suggest you read the rulebook Fricke rightly excluded.........not even up for debate

  34. There will always be tracks that certain teams wont go well on With the make up of our team we have riders that all go well at different tracks thus tending to keep us in the mix in most of our away meetings. That can only be good for a 2 leg play off match As i said in the opening post of the thread i expected David and Danny to go well. Lawson and Harris did ok.....and possibly KP was a bit disappointing. We lost mainly due to our reserves only getting 4 each but they have carried us through a lot of meetings so cant exactly blame them for one poor night Looks to me like we are tough to beat over 2 legs which will be a good thing Important now to win our next 2 matches both at home We then have a tough home and away against Lynn and then 3 successive away matches before an easier looking home match v Poole Belle Vue and Peterborough and Ipswich looking good at the moment for top 4 Looking at the table i expect Lynn with there stronger team to climb the table quickly especially considering they have only rode 1 out of 6 matches at home Swindon with Jensen coming in and maybe a good new reserve will start climbing as well Poole and Wolves are the two teams that must be looking over their shoulders could be good when these two meet twice in the middle of the month

  35. Considered opinion seems to be around 1200. Easy to look at some tracks where all are in one stand (like Monmore) and say its a big crowd, when you have spread out like Belle Vue harder to judge. BV also have some very big Sponsors to help cover costs.

  36. Yes, easily. He’d have scored 10/11 I think. And Ipswich would have won.

  37. They have racing like that every week at Belle Vue,, but I very much doubt its ever packed. So good racing and packed crowds doesn't seem to go together. Maybe Somerset and scunthorpe are paxked as well,,,,,,, no.

  38. Swindon usually get decent crowds on tv meetings when they run a promotion. When they don't run a promotion the crowd is halved. A good meeting last night. What is it with heat 13 at Belle Vue? Always seems to be a cracker. If racing was like that at Swindon every week I reckon the place would be packed. I remember talking to a Belle Vue fan once while working away, who said he used to love going to Belle Vue speedway, but it had "closed down now unfortunately". This was in the days of when they were at the Greyhound Stadium, but perhaps the same still applies in Manchester. Maybe people simply don't know it's there.

  39. Let’s face it though, if he was available and willing to go to Kings Lynn then buster never would of let him come to us over them - he’ll always put Lynn first

  40. Right decision by the promotion in my opinion. Good first season. Poor 2nd on crap bikes and was riding a moped this season. Good riddance!

  41. That might be right, but if it was down popularity,,, Barker might still be there. Sometimes, managerial decisions have to be made for what's best for the club, not what a couple of fans think.

  44. Do not expect Shovlar to give credit to any team that rides anywhere other than Wimborne Road. Extremely slanted viewpoint. Ipswich are doing well, good luck to them.

  45. Fricke must have known Harris was there. If certain other riders had of done the same thing, imagine the uproar on here.

  46. It is a phenomenal operating model they use isn't it? All trying to win competitions that because of the way they operate them, via a ridiculous set of rules, are rendered virtually worthless... All expecting riders to have the best kit they can get, and paying out sums far in excess of the sports true standing to assist them to purchase it... Fortunes being paid out by riders and promoters resulting in admission costs that are set at the level they are to try and cover that outlay rather than reflect what is actually on offer.. And all ultimately to win competitions hardly anyone gives a monkeys about...? It is truly a race to the bottom isn't it?

  47. He spent a year away from Poole because he was a bit of a brat with the Poole management

  48. WHATEVER you may think of the SON, it is a World Championship and certainly seen as such by the riders, especially those that collect a gold medal.
    1 point
  49. Principally because the ‘better off’ teams wouldn’t share around their riders so some teams struggled badly. The British league of 1965 was successful because it provided more variety of opposition plus teams were put together under the ‘ rider control’ system. Maybe a similar system would initially be required - especially if Buster owns all the clubs!
