  1. not good news on the stadium being rejected..... its brilliant news . people in so called high places trying to make their mark on cumbria. i wonder who pays the bill for all the track being dug up . or is it just another money making scam to get more cash out of the system Europe aint gonna be happy , paying for something that wont get built ! that news will keep this thread ticking over nicely until xmas .LOL.

  2. At last common sense prevails Shaz , not going to help us Workington Comets fans though . Why couldn't they have just revamped Borough Park and Derwent Park for all 3 sports . I know affordability is the main factor for losing the Comets , but ripping up the track gave no chance of a possible return .I'm really pleased with the result its been rejected as will a lot of others I know

  3. It says an awful lot about the Isle of Wight promotion that they have landed this meeting and not one of the bigger clubs. What is more remarkable is that they were approached by Polish Speedway, not the other way around.

  4. Do some BV fans honestly believe the Poole promotion waited until they were in front before calling the halt ? Its simple really, they could have called it off at heat 8 ( 24-24), but because the fans had waited patiently , They tried to cram in as many heats as possible before the 10-15 curfew . Poole had no way of knowing they'd gain heat advantages from any of the last 4 races ?

  7. The other weekend in Hull was a 2-day music festival on a local park; first day pop & indie, next was rock and metal (yes!). The sustained noise over the weekend (11am-10pm) was pretty loud and also included a funfair (12pm-8pm) with its own music + an idiot who clearly loved the sound of their own voice rambling constantly over the PA all day long, the fair had been there for the previous week + 2days of monster trucks. I was unable to attend but clearly heard the noise from maybe 1/2 mile away - actually has to be said most of the music, and especially the monster trucks, sounded pretty cool. After prob 10 days of all this activity + a more than generous helping of rain the local park is now a real mess. My point is that, ok, a lot of people had fun and good luck to them all, residents put up with the music fest, Hull Fest actually, but local authorities / NIMBYs won't permit / allow speedway which consists of just 20 mins of noise in short 1minute bursts....

  8. Lynn and Ipswich get Peterborough's heat leaders, Peterborough get a dropped for a reason rider must be overjoyed.

  9. It was the Referee’s decision to impose a 10.15pm deadline. It was discussed and agreed with both teams and the promotion before the paramedic had even begun his return journey. had the paramedic not returned within any reasonable time to allow for any more racing before that deadline it was agreed we would call a halt. The principle consideration by all concerned was for the fans .... (not withstanding the injured riders’ welfare)

  11. And reported broken ribs for Covatti, so both out for quite a while, maybe the season I would think and I wish them both a speedy recovery , Had broken ribs a couple of times myself and it is very painful. They were both scoring pretty well too and will be a big loss to the team.

  13. I went into this meeting thinking " The Bears are going to have everyone firing to win this one against a very strong Lions team. Now, I'm telling myself, " Oh Ye Of Little Faith ". Cracking result for the Bears. How good too, the meeting had to be delayed due to huge queues wanting to get on. How often have you head that said ? UTB !!!

  14. It was agreeded by everyone concerned that the meeting would run till 10.15, and Poole won 37 - 35, both teams had the same chance to win it, funny nobody has mentioned that a Poole rider had to come out 3 races on the trot with hardly a break in between

  15. I hear they were drug testing riders tonight. Wonder if anyone failed

  16. In your own strange way , you're actually agreeing with Sharpen Rake . Whether Ruddick made it to the first corner or not is irrelevant, he scored zero and Coles should score at least a couple which puts you favourites to win even forgetting the increased scoring potential of Palovaara and Howarth

  17. Oh dear new stadium rejected... what now... maybe they will beg the speedway to come back...

  19. If Nico has got through on the inside I felt confident Richie would have got around Berge on the final bend. They spent three laps tripping over themselves trying moves but blocking each other.

  20. Kennett in reserve should get double figures in most matches.

  21. Of course you're stronger , Howarth instead of Wethers !!!!! Howarth could score more on his own than what Wethers , Sedgmen and Ruddick scored together in the Shield match . So the usual downplaying of their chances by the salt and sauce mob won't wash this time . But I'll be there tonight in red and white hoping against hope that our boys can do it again .

  22. Having spoken to someone from Somerset last night, they were not happy with the track and an extended meeting was held after the meeting to make sure this doesn't happen again.

  26. If they did delay the start to allow Widman to get ready they didn't make a very good job of it given that Wirtzfeld replaced him first time out. That suggests that the delay was for other reasons and there was indeed an accident causing a problem - my brother was on the 6pm ferry and he got caught in it.

  29. I will not be attending this meeting, why have we got a guest , should be RR but how have Leicester got a guest , they are much stronger now , Guests are killing this sport.

  31. We are riding well at the moment and have the best away record in the league. As long as we start like we did against Wolves we have a chance of at least a point. The right guests need to be picked for reserve though.

  34. Not the best entertainment wise but certainly not the worst either. Thought R Lambert was better than his points total. Couple of races where he was right up the exhaust pipe of Doyley and Rasser. The best thing about the new track is that riders are rarely spaced out so even if a race has no passing then they are still close together for 4 laps. They were always too spaced out on the old one.

  35. I thought Zmarzlik was a little beyond "hard riding" with Madson in their semi-final #2 in Warsaw and Madsen still came back and beat him to get into the final. Anyone that doughts Madsens riding ability should review that race. I have always been a fan of Zmarzlik but am I the only one who thinks he's riding a little too hard and at times out of control?

  36. Another excellent night's racing with some stand out entertainment from Danny Verge and Robert Ledwith in particular. Scores were VERY tight for the first 12 heats. The meeting could have been run quicker, we missed last 3 heats of the junior match. Lack of a tactical substitute in heat 14 still puzzles me.

  40. I guess it's inbred, as it's always been that way. Everyday thinking how to make the bike faster... Shame...probably down to the fact that Speedway has pretty much always been an Individual and Club sport. The two don't mix well imo. Would love Speedway in this country to buck the trend and go down the route suggested. One big league, engines sealed and supplied. Lots at meeting. Stick in rolling chassis...then go racing. No averages...wages not points per ride etc. Don't care if all the big riders leave. Would rather have a lower level and new riders develop under a new system. Surely there would be riders that would be happy to ride as Club riders on a wage, and forget about Individual events? No expensive engine tuning...just rolling chassis, keep fit and focus on track craft....

  41. If anyone had a go at Simon Lambert after Monday's meeting, they were out of order. I thought he rode well and was up to speed. I am one of the first to criticise riders when they are poor , but Simon done his job.

  42. Naked hot laps, stealing the grading tractor, walking the length of the infield on his hands, handcuffing people to the flagpoles in their pants on their birthdays the list of escapades goes on! Parker was a true character and legend of our sport, get well soon!

  43. Is that because promoters have lost the skill of promoting the product to would be sponsors. Years back many tracks staged individual meetings with local companies putting up prize money. However I think it is impossible to get it right, some fans want to watch a format of league racing only which is almost unsustainable from a financial perspective with allegedly insufficient riders to fill team places. To fill the teams you need a cross section of skills because of rider shortage but many moan about the NL quality riders and all they want to watch is fully fledged riders in their team but do not have the patience to support those riders who need to hone their skills and learn track craft. I believe you either have a mix of meetings or go back to the 13 lap format and a second half open to reserves and second strings. What I don’t understand is that most will watch a GP or European championship meeting but not an individual meeting at your local track, they may not be GP riders but the quality of racing is just as good.

  44. And many others, I suspect. Individual meetings have their place during the course of the season, but team speedway is what's it all about.

  48. I'll take the blame for that... I put it on Facebook but unfortunately it didn't get put on the website. Probably my fault that the BSPA website didn't change it either. I will hide behind what you said about us doing it for the love of it and I'm afraid a 4 month old baby and a wedding in 3 weeks has distracted me somewhat! Incidentally although we originally intended to race tonight instead, we couldn't find a team to come to us so abandoned that idea. Swindon did know this though.
