  1. not good news on the stadium being rejected..... its brilliant news . people in so called high places trying to make their mark on cumbria. i wonder who pays the bill for all the track being dug up . or is it just another money making scam to get more cash out of the system Europe aint gonna be happy , paying for something that wont get built ! that news will keep this thread ticking over nicely until xmas .LOL.

  2. At last common sense prevails Shaz , not going to help us Workington Comets fans though . Why couldn't they have just revamped Borough Park and Derwent Park for all 3 sports . I know affordability is the main factor for losing the Comets , but ripping up the track gave no chance of a possible return .I'm really pleased with the result its been rejected as will a lot of others I know

  3. It says an awful lot about the Isle of Wight promotion that they have landed this meeting and not one of the bigger clubs. What is more remarkable is that they were approached by Polish Speedway, not the other way around.

  4. Do some BV fans honestly believe the Poole promotion waited until they were in front before calling the halt ? Its simple really, they could have called it off at heat 8 ( 24-24), but because the fans had waited patiently , They tried to cram in as many heats as possible before the 10-15 curfew . Poole had no way of knowing they'd gain heat advantages from any of the last 4 races ?

  7. The other weekend in Hull was a 2-day music festival on a local park; first day pop & indie, next was rock and metal (yes!). The sustained noise over the weekend (11am-10pm) was pretty loud and also included a funfair (12pm-8pm) with its own music + an idiot who clearly loved the sound of their own voice rambling constantly over the PA all day long, the fair had been there for the previous week + 2days of monster trucks. I was unable to attend but clearly heard the noise from maybe 1/2 mile away - actually has to be said most of the music, and especially the monster trucks, sounded pretty cool. After prob 10 days of all this activity + a more than generous helping of rain the local park is now a real mess. My point is that, ok, a lot of people had fun and good luck to them all, residents put up with the music fest, Hull Fest actually, but local authorities / NIMBYs won't permit / allow speedway which consists of just 20 mins of noise in short 1minute bursts....

  8. Lynn and Ipswich get Peterborough's heat leaders, Peterborough get a dropped for a reason rider must be overjoyed.

  9. It was the Referee’s decision to impose a 10.15pm deadline. It was discussed and agreed with both teams and the promotion before the paramedic had even begun his return journey. had the paramedic not returned within any reasonable time to allow for any more racing before that deadline it was agreed we would call a halt. The principle consideration by all concerned was for the fans .... (not withstanding the injured riders’ welfare)

  11. And reported broken ribs for Covatti, so both out for quite a while, maybe the season I would think and I wish them both a speedy recovery , Had broken ribs a couple of times myself and it is very painful. They were both scoring pretty well too and will be a big loss to the team.

  12. Well what I have seen so far this year proctor, Jorgensen and kerr need to go as well as S lambert. Team needs a major overhaul Riss, Iversen and 2 others needed ASAP

  13. I went into this meeting thinking " The Bears are going to have everyone firing to win this one against a very strong Lions team. Now, I'm telling myself, " Oh Ye Of Little Faith ". Cracking result for the Bears. How good too, the meeting had to be delayed due to huge queues wanting to get on. How often have you head that said ? UTB !!!

  14. It was agreeded by everyone concerned that the meeting would run till 10.15, and Poole won 37 - 35, both teams had the same chance to win it, funny nobody has mentioned that a Poole rider had to come out 3 races on the trot with hardly a break in between

  15. I hear they were drug testing riders tonight. Wonder if anyone failed

  16. In your own strange way , you're actually agreeing with Sharpen Rake . Whether Ruddick made it to the first corner or not is irrelevant, he scored zero and Coles should score at least a couple which puts you favourites to win even forgetting the increased scoring potential of Palovaara and Howarth

  17. Oh dear new stadium rejected... what now... maybe they will beg the speedway to come back...

  19. If Nico has got through on the inside I felt confident Richie would have got around Berge on the final bend. They spent three laps tripping over themselves trying moves but blocking each other.

  20. Kennett in reserve should get double figures in most matches.

  21. Of course you're stronger , Howarth instead of Wethers !!!!! Howarth could score more on his own than what Wethers , Sedgmen and Ruddick scored together in the Shield match . So the usual downplaying of their chances by the salt and sauce mob won't wash this time . But I'll be there tonight in red and white hoping against hope that our boys can do it again .

  22. Having spoken to someone from Somerset last night, they were not happy with the track and an extended meeting was held after the meeting to make sure this doesn't happen again.

  25. Well played Weggies, Cookie sublime. Cam v. Good for us, but no support whereas Tiggers reserve and middle pairing all won races. Our reserves poor but plenty of effort from Coles, who needs some arithmetic help, and good effort in heat 8. Please replace Willie with Luke when he returns. Ricky struggling, Pavlova a welcome return and Joel fine but missed start in 12 and then Willie got in the road. As for RR, well 4 was a poor return, and if Kyle had too many shandies or powder, then he has bigger problems best dealt with via a ban and help. Long season at the dale, Weggies look competitive on all fronts. As we enjoyed in 2014to 2016, when you have a sledgehammer at No 1 you can win anywhere.

  28. His dodgy attitude was primarily with his fellow team mates (Redcar, Sheffield). i've yet to see any of that this year. In fact the very opposite. He's lost points trying to help his partner this season, without any real tantrums. He's not the first rider, or likely to be the last, to appear to give up when last.

  30. 26/08/1956 Rye House Brian Crutcher Trophy DATE & OUTCOME (postponed?) Speedway Star reported that the meeting was abandoned without a race being run due to torrential rain, with a large crowd having assembled. The 1957 programme for that year's Brian Crutcher Trophy says, "Today we stage the Brian Crutcher Trophy. I hope the weather will be kinder than last year when we had to cancel the meeting." 21/10/1956 Rye House v California (Challenge) DATE & OUTCOME (no result posted) The Rye House programme for the meeting on 14th October included a complete fixture list for the year, with that meeting shown as the last one, with no reference to a further meeting on 21st October. There was also no mention of such a forthcoming meeting in the Speedway Star. 1956 programmes up to 26 August show this fixture on the forthcoming fixtures list. On 9 September programme, a further "Open" fixture is shown on 28 October. On the programme for 23 September, both these dates are given but with nothing to say what the fixtures were. On 7 October, the 21 October fixture reverts to being Rye House v. California and the 28 October fixture disappears. Then, as BL65 says, the 21 October fixture also disappears on the 14 October programme and I have not seen a programme for 21 October.

  31. Yeah not sure why Peterborough think Proctor is going to turn his dismal form around in a heartbeat.

  32. Not in the Supporters Cup. It's the old 13 heat format with heat 14 & 15 nominated heats added. 4 & 5 ride together & 3 rides with the reserves.

  33. Some curfews are often used to suit the promoters. I had two dubious ones last season. A 10pm at Eastbourne, one meeting this year has already hit the 10.40 mark. A 10.15 at Rye House, when the previous meeting went on an hour later. At least at Kent everyone knows it's 8.30.

  34. But they can build up to the 42.5 limit which they currently fall a couple of points below

  35. A couple of weeks ago in threatening weather, the first 12 heats against Plymouth were run by 8.10. It shows what can be done.

  36. Absolutely cracking idea by the B'ham promotion coming up next home meeting? A £3 ticket buys you the privilege of watching 3 heats from the Centre Green ? Heats 12 - 14 ...... Surely 'every' speedway spectator would love that experience? Brilliant!

  37. Kent hung in there well till the later stages, ..Then Wood and Morley and Verge.did the business. Also the IOW reserves scored very well as I thought they would tonight....

  38. At the end of the day Simon does a job for the team, when he is signed it’s to fill a gap vacated by somebody else or in this case to allow the acquisition of another rider. It’s pretty clear he and somebody else will be leaving soon so I don’t understand why people need to let into him particularly after a meeting where he has scored in every ride. Just seems a bit unnecessary to me.
    1 point
  39. So Simon was out of a job and was asked by Lynn to sign, he's not going to say no is he? I asked who goes into the bar afterwards because all the riders go in there whether they've had great nights or poor nights on track, they are interviewed, they tell it how it is and you can hear and see how happy or disappointed they are, they face the music, it maybe humanises (if that's a word) them a little more to the fans. On Monday Simon was soooo down in the dumps even though he'd done his job, he's been about Lynn since he was a kid, in his words he knows he will never be World Champ but he always does his best ...... Let me add that the fans who go in there have the chance to ask any question they want .....

  40. Agreed Baggy and Simon knows it, he's not an idiot, Simon really does not deserve some of the crap slung at him on this thread, do any of the dissenters go into the bar for the Q&A? Just asking out of interest?

  41. I don’t think there is any problem with Lamberts hunger or desire, he simply is as good as he will ever be and any shortcomings are down to his limitations of ability rather than effort and commitment.

  42. Not sure where Paco was but Shanes was contesting a European Grasstrack title (or qualification for) and this is the area that he is likely to have greater individual success in than Speedway and Birmingham like any other club would be stupid to push him to choose (although it is also ACU calling the shots there). So in all fairness Brum did only have 2 fit riders (with Morris & Stoneman still injured). As ever the fault lies in the fact that this scenario hasn't been properly considered rather than with the unlucky club.

  43. If one big league could be done properly I think that would be great for British speedway, unfortunately I think the financial disparity between the haves and the have not means that there would be enormous gulfs between teams and it would be a very lopsided league. It would need to be done much, much better than 1995 that’s for sure.

  44. always rated him - think the Bears should have included him. Next year mebbe
    1 point
  45. What Mr Ford did mention was supporters getting used to success and that sometimes it's best to give them second place and leave them wanting more. At a time when league speedway is set-up for a win at all costs, perhaps we may revert to a time when supporters were interested in watching their team, their riders, no matter how good, and that winning isn't the be all and end all.

  46. 'Yacub' (Jacob, our new rider), hope he does well,,,,seems like a decent lad, willing to learn and help. Met him on Sunday and, well I was just being my usual self
    1 point
  47. You have obviously mellowed in your opinion of Jacob then over the years as you wrote this when a few of us Redcar fans wanted him in our 2018 team. "Seriously, what is it that Redcar fans see in Bukhave that the rest of us can't see. I saw a hard trying rider going nowhere, but hanging around to make himself available. I am aware of a personal attachment he may have with Redcar, but I think Konopka was a better bet than Bukhave. Honest opinion." Anyway at least his hanging around presented him an opportunity
